"It makes perfect sense," Doctor Ruixin summarized, her brow furrowing as she leaned forward in her office chair, facing Wenzhi. "Xinyuan closing the Red Zone Rifts completely... but he can't stop the Great Fall. Rifts will keep appearing, and so will the monsters. Ultimately, there won't be a massive difference, but at least the terrifying mutation of the beasts will stop. The Old Blood and the CEA, however, want to reverse the entire Great Collapse. That's why they need Xinyuan in that broken state. They're chasing an impossible reset at the cost of the world."
Behind them, Xinyuan's face was illuminated by the soft glow of the computer screen, quietly working his way through the marriage registration.
"Will you join the Eclipse scientists?" Wenzhi asked, looking at her. "You can oversee whatever work still needs to be done."
"I definitely will, boss," Doctor Ruixin's face split into a genuine smile. "But what's the move with the Capital? They just tried to blow us off the map."
