Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: Moro

"Really?" Merus's eyes lit up instantly.

Looking at him, Gran couldn't help but feel like Merus was ready to break the neutrality rules right this second just so Gran would have an excuse to revive him later. He felt a bit speechless.

"Hahaha! You'd better remember what you said!" Merus was genuinely happy today. While his father, the Grand Minister, could easily grant such a wish, there was no way he would ever agree to let his son abandon his angelic status.

"I won't forget," Gran said with a soft laugh. He just hoped the Grand Minister and Whis wouldn't use him as a punching bag for "corrupting" their brother. Still, he knew from the original story that the Grand Minister eventually did restore Merus as a mortal Galactic Patrolman.

They continued their walk through the cylindrical prison complex. To their right, row after row of cells held the universe's most dangerous criminals. Each prisoner was fitted with high-tech shackles that suppressed their power, preventing any chance of a jailbreak.

"By the way, Gran," Merus said, his mood better than ever, "Paragus asked me to teach him something called a 'Super Saiyan' transformation. What exactly is that?"

"Oh? He asked you about that?" Gran was a bit surprised.

"Yes. He claimed it was a legendary transformation of the Saiyan race," Merus said, looking slightly confused. "But I have no idea what it entails."

"It's this."

Without another word, Gran's hair snapped into a brilliant gold. A massive explosion of power erupted from his body, the golden aura's pressure surging through the entire Galactic Prison. The massive structure began to groan and tremble under the sheer weight of his energy.

The sudden upheaval threw the prison into a frenzy.

"What's happening? Why is the prison shaking?!"

"I can't sense any energy, but who is this monster?!"

"Wait, this pressure... it's a god! A deity has descended upon the prison!!"

Among the countless inmates, a few had encountered divine beings before. They recognized the unmistakable weight of a god's presence.

Seeing the chaos Gran was causing, Merus looked exasperated. "Alright, that's enough. Pull your power back in."

"Hahaha, sorry. I got a little carried away," Gran chuckled. He pulled his energy tight within his body, though he kept his hair golden, maintaining the Super Saiyan Full Power state.

Merus observed him with a keen eye. "Violent power, unstable emotions, a heavy physical burden..." He listed off every flaw he saw. In Merus's professional estimation, aside from the raw power boost, the form was almost entirely disadvantageous compared to more refined states.

Gran's lip twitched. He knew Merus would be critical.

"However..." Merus shook his head. "While this state isn't ideal for you, it's perfect for someone like Paragus."

Different talents require different paths. For an average Saiyan, reaching a power level of 500 million in their base form was nearly impossible. But this golden transformation allowed a normal Saiyan to bridge that gap instantly.

"Merus, this state actually has further evolutions," Gran noted. He didn't bother demonstrating Super Saiyan 2 or 3. After years of training, he was certain he could achieve them, but compared to Ultra Instinct, they were mostly just for show.

"Oh?" Merus looked intrigued. "In that case, this transformation has quite a bit of potential." If the Saiyans in the Patrol could master this, their effectiveness would skyrocket.

"Yeah. I'm sure you've already guessed the requirements for the change."

"Anger and a specific threshold of base power," Merus answered immediately.

"As expected of an Angel. You see through everything instantly." Gran wasn't surprised by Merus's insight; he had long ago accepted the terrifying gap between mortals and Angels.

As they walked, Gran continued to scan the cells. The criminals here were remarkable; many possessed bizarre abilities or formidable raw strength, even if they were currently suppressed.

"Is your daily task just watching over this place?" Gran asked.

"For the most part. Unless a threat appears in the cosmos that the regular patrolmen can't handle, I stay here to keep an eye on this lot." Merus glanced at the cells. "Many of them were quite talented. It's a shame they chose the wrong path."

If these inmates were ever released, Universe 7 would descend into a new era of bloody chaos.

"You're a champion of justice, so of course you see it that way," Gran joked. "But to a Destroyer, as long as they aren't severely hindering the development of the universe, they aren't necessarily 'wrong.'"

Some of these guys were truly powerful. They had just passed a cell containing a red-skinned alien. Even with his power suppressed to almost nothing, Gran could tell his original strength was around one billion. At this point in time, a monster like that would make even Frieza bow his head.

Merus decided to stay silent. Arguing with a Destroyer's one-track logic was a recipe for a headache. He suspected Gran might be joking about letting them go, but he knew the Destroyer Candidate wouldn't actually interfere with the Patrol's work. The capture of criminals was a part of the universe's natural self-regulation, and Gran had no reason to disrupt that.

"Since you said you came here to thank me, and you've done that, aren't you leaving?"

"What's the rush? I want to see the rest of the inmates first." Gran smiled and nudged Merus forward. He hadn't seen Moro yet, and he wanted to get a good look at the old goat.

However, as they moved deeper into the high-security sector, Gran's expression grew increasingly grim. It wasn't that Universe 7 lacked powerful mortals; it was that they were all locked away, sealed, or hidden in deep sleep. He even passed a prisoner who had once reached the first stage of the Divine Realm.

Finally, they reached the end of the corridor. Sitting inside the final cell was a hunched, goat-like figure.

Moro.

Twenty minutes earlier, in the deepest cell of the prison, the ancient "Planet Eater" sat in the shadows. Moro had once terrorized the galaxy by consuming the life force of entire worlds. Theoretically, as long as there were planets to eat, he was immortal. He was already over 10 million years old.

"Cough... damn that Gran Supreme Kai... just you wait!" Moro muttered. He looked incredibly frail, his voice a raspy struggle as if every word might be his last.

His current state was the work of the Dai Kaioshin. Ten million years ago, during their final battle, the Gran Supreme Kai had sacrificed most of his god power to use the "Mase" technique, sealing Moro's magic. Without his magic, Moro was a tiger without claws. He had been defeated and imprisoned ever since.

For ten million years, Moro had sat in this corner, slowly, painstakingly accumulating tiny bits of magic. He estimated that in a few more decades, he would finally have enough to break free. Then, he would find that fat brat and have his revenge.

"Soon... very soon..."

Suddenly, a terrifying pressure flooded the prison, accompanied by a mysterious power that made the very foundations of the planet shake.

"What is this?" Moro growled, using his hands to push himself up from the corner. "No... this is the pressure of a god!"

Moro had fought both the Gran Supreme Kai and the South Supreme Kai. Despite his power, he was still a mortal, and he knew that mortals usually couldn't even sense divine Ki. This was a gap in existence itself.

"Is that fat bastard here?" Moro could feel the weight of the presence, but since he couldn't sense the specific energy, he didn't know who it was. Fear began to take hold. If the Gran Supreme Kai had recovered his strength and come to finish the job, Moro knew he wouldn't survive another encounter in his current state.

"Curse it all!"

The next twenty minutes were pure agony as he waited. Finally, the rhythmic tap-tap-tap of footsteps echoed down the hall. His heart hammered in his chest.

The footsteps stopped in front of his cell. Two figures appeared. One was Merus, whom Moro recognized as a regular guard. But the other wore strange, Egyptian-style clothing Moro had never seen before.

Who is this?

"So, this is Moro?" Gran stood outside the bars, finally seeing the big boss of the Moro Arc in the flesh. He looked just as ancient and withered as he did in the early chapters of the manga.

"You know this guy?" Merus asked.

"Of course. The Gran Supreme Kai only ended up being absorbed by Majin Buu because he exhausted most of his power sealing this old goat." Gran studied the prisoner.

"Who... what kind of god are you?" Moro hissed, his voice grating like gravel.

"You can tell I'm a god? I guess the Gran Supreme Kai left a lasting impression on you."

"You know that fat fool? Are you one of his people?" Moro asked, terrified.

"One of his?" Gran chuckled. "In a way, I suppose I am."

Gran suddenly raised his hand, and a flicker of violet light appeared at his fingertips.

Hum!!

The invincible power of Destruction filled the air outside the cell. Moro felt his very soul begin to tremble. This was power far more terrifying than the Gran Supreme Kai's holy energy. How was this possible? Since when did such a god exist in this universe?

"Gran, are you going to destroy him?" Merus asked. He didn't try to stop him; he knew exactly how dangerous Moro was. If he escaped, it would be a catastrophe for the universe.

"Never mind." Gran suddenly lowered his hand, and the violet energy vanished.

Moro collapsed, gasping for air as if he had just escaped the jaws of death. It wasn't surprising; in his weakened, sealed state, he couldn't hope to stand against the Rule of Destruction. Even at his peak, the power of a True Destroyer would have been overwhelming.

"Why stop?" Merus asked curiously.

"Lord Beerus might have been asleep during the original battle, but there's no way Whis didn't tell him about it later," Gran mused. "Even though the Gran Supreme Kai was lost because of this guy, Beerus never stepped in to finish him off. I don't really get his reasoning, but if he didn't touch him, I'll leave it be for now. Let's go."

Gran turned and began to walk away.

Merus looked back at the terrified Moro one last time. "The lazy Destroyer didn't care about you, but things have changed. His disciple is in charge now. I'd suggest you stay quiet and stay put."

With that, Merus turned to follow Gran.

Once the footsteps faded into the distance, Moro gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with rage. "Curse them! Even the Gran Supreme Kai never pressured me like that... what kind of god was that boy?"

The humiliation of showing fear stung more than any physical wound.

Just wait! Once I escape this hell, every one of you 'gods' will die!
