Chapter 500: Descent Upon the Land of Swamps
The rigid tension locking Shion's shoulders finally snapped. She exhaled a long, trembling breath, the sound loud in the quiet office. Though she had surrendered her nation's dignity to secure this alliance, the heavy burden crushing her chest had lifted. At the very least, the people of the Land of Demons now had a path to survival.
Sitting behind his massive oak desk, Uchiha Akira tilted his head. His dark eyes shifted toward an empty, shadowed corner of the room.
"Come here," he commanded, his voice flat and devoid of warmth.
The air in the corner rippled, distorting like a mirage. A second later, an Anbu operative wearing a porcelain cat-faced mask materialized from the void, dropping smoothly to one knee.
"Hokage-sama."
Akira reached onto his desk and casually tossed a three-pronged kunai. The weapon spun through the air, its handle wrapped in a dense array of sealing formulas.
"Take this."
The Anbu caught it with both hands, his posture rigid with absolute deference.
"Go to the Land of Swamps immediately," Akira ordered, his tone methodical. "Locate the volcanic cave where Moryo's physical body is sealed. Once you secure the perimeter, activate the formula."
"Yes! Your subordinate will depart at once!"
Without a wasted breath, the Anbu formed a single hand seal. His figure blurred, vanishing in a sharp hiss of displaced air via the Body Flicker Technique.
Akira withdrew his gaze, his dark eyes settling back on Shion. The young priestess stood frozen in the center of the room, staring blankly at the empty space where the elite ninja had just been.
'That's... it?'Shion's mind raced, her fingers curling tightly into her sleeves.'No mobilization orders? No need to assemble a vanguard? We are talking about Moryo!'
"You should head out for now," Akira said, waving a hand to dismiss her spiraling thoughts. "Stay in Konoha for a few days. When the coordinates are set, I will take you there."
Shion parted her lips, the desperate urge to question his methods rising in her throat. But as she met Akira's gaze—so utterly calm, so supremely confident—the words died on her tongue.
"Yes..." she murmured, lowering her head.
At that moment, a figure stepped out from the shadows behind the Hokage's chair. Sara moved with a quiet, practiced grace. Her long crimson hair was tied back loosely, framing a face that radiated a gentle, intellectual warmth.
"Come with me, little sister Shion," Sara said, her voice soft like a soothing breeze. She crossed the room and gently took the trembling priestess by the hand. "Since Hokage-sama has given his word, you can put your heart at ease. I will look after you for the next few days."
Looking up into the older woman's warm, smiling eyes, an unexpected current of comfort washed over Shion's frayed nerves. The terrifying aura of the Uchiha faded slightly in Sara's presence. Shion nodded obediently, allowing herself to be led out of the Hokage Office.
The heavy wooden doors clicked shut, plunging the room back into absolute silence.
Akira rose from his chair. He walked slowly toward the massive floor-to-ceiling window, clasping his hands behind his back. Far below, the sprawling streets of Konoha hummed with life, a thriving empire under his absolute control.
"Moryo..." Akira murmured, a faint, dangerous smirk playing at the corner of his lips. "I hope that alternate dimension can bring me some surprises."
...
Days later.
Deep within the desolate borders of the Land of Swamps, a colossal active volcano dominated the ash-choked sky. Plumes of thick, toxic black smoke billowed from its crater, blotting out the sun. The air was heavy, thick with the suffocating, pungent stench of sulfur and boiling earth.
Near the jagged rim of the crater, concealed behind a massive, heat-scorched boulder, the cat-masked Anbu crouched in total silence. His eyes tracked the entrance of a hidden cave just below the ridge.
"It seems those cultists have already started," the Anbu muttered to himself, his gaze sharpening into a deadly glare.
Wasting no time, he reached into his tactical pouch and withdrew the specialized three-pronged kunai Akira had given him. He gripped the hilt, his fingers flying through a rapid sequence of hand seals.
He channeled his chakra directly into the metal.
The complex Flying Thunder God formula wrapped around the handle flared to life, emitting a harsh, blinding black light. A bizarre spatial distortion rippled outward, warping the very air around the blade.
The next second, the fabric of reality tore open.
It looked as though an invisible, giant hand had violently ripped the space apart, leaving a swirling black vortex in its wake. Two figures stepped smoothly from the chaotic tear.
Uchiha Akira and Shion.
"Hokage-sama!" The Anbu instantly used the Body Flicker Technique, reappearing directly in front of Akira and bowing deeply.
"We've... arrived?" Shion gasped, her vision swimming. One moment she had been standing in the peaceful, bustling heart of Konoha, and the next, she was choking on volcanic ash. The violent spatial transition triggered an intense wave of vertigo, leaving her swaying on her feet.
But before she could even steady herself, a wave of pure, suffocating malice washed over the ridge.
It was a familiar, terrifying aura. All the blood drained from Shion's face, leaving her deathly pale.
"This aura..." Shion snapped her head toward the gaping maw of the cave. Her knees buckled slightly, her entire body trembling uncontrollably as ancient terror gripped her soul. "It's Moryo..."
Akira ignored the priestess's panic entirely. His dark eyes narrowed slightly as his sensory perception expanded, piercing effortlessly through the dense, superheated rock layers to observe the depths of the cavern.
Far below, submerged in a lake of bubbling, incandescent lava, a massive, multi-headed monstrosity thrashed against its ancient bindings. Standing on a stone altar directly above the beast's head was a man with a twisted, fanatical expression, his arms raised high as he chanted the final verses of a dark ritual.
Akira's expression remained entirely flat.
"So this is Moryo," he mused, his voice dripping with dry disappointment. "Even weaker than I imagined."
...
Meanwhile.
High in the jagged peaks of the Land of Lightning, within the Raikage Building of Kumogakure.
The atmosphere inside the Supreme Conference Room was oppressively heavy, thick enough to choke on. The long, polished table was surrounded by Kumogakure's highest-ranking officials, elders, and Elite Jonin.
Yet, the massive chair at the head of the table—the seat belonging to the Raikage—sat completely empty.
To the immediate left of that glaring void sat Dodai. The dark-skinned, white-haired veteran stared at the table with his single good eye, the eyepatch over his left eye a grim reminder of past wars. As a strategist who had served three generations of Raikage, he had seen his village through countless crises. But never one like this.
Directly across from him sat Darui. The Fourth Raikage's right-hand man and wielder of the Storm Release Bloodline Limit slouched in his chair, his usual lazy demeanor replaced by a bone-deep exhaustion.
Scattered around them were the village's remaining pillars: Cee, the elite sensory ninja, his face pale and drawn; and Samui, whose curvaceous figure was rigid, her normally frosty expression cracked with underlying tension.
Every face in the room was painted with the same grim despair.
"Speak up," Dodai finally ordered, his gravelly voice shattering the deathly silence. "The situation on the front lines."
Cee swallowed hard. He placed his hands flat on the table and pushed himself to his feet.
"The situation... is bad," Cee began, his voice tight. "Konoha's army has already crossed our borders. The commander leading the vanguard is Jiraiya, one of the legendary Sannin. All the defensive outposts we set up along the valley... they have been completely dismantled by Konoha's forces."
The conference room plunged back into a suffocating quiet. The sound of grinding teeth echoed from the elders' side of the table.
"How much time is left?" Darui asked, his voice carrying a deep, heavy helplessness.
Cee looked down at the tactical map spread across the table, his eyes tracing the red markers advancing toward their home. "Based on their current marching speed... at most, two days. In two days, Konoha's army will arrive at the gates of Kumogakure."
Two days.
The number dropped like an iron anvil, smashing the last remnants of hope from the room.
"Then we fight them to the death!" an elderly council member roared, slamming his fists onto the table as he shot to his feet. His eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging against his temples. "We are Kumogakure! We are a warrior people! Even if we die, we will tear a piece of flesh from Konoha's throat!"
"That's right! We fight!"
"Better to shatter as jade than survive as broken clay!"
Several radical Jonin erupted from their seats, their voices overlapping in a frenzy of suicidal bloodlust. Murderous intent flooded the room, as if they were ready to draw their blades and charge down the mountain to perish alongside their enemies.
"Fight?"
A cold, mocking laugh cut through the shouting.
Darui remained seated, his eyes half-closed as he looked at the screaming elders. "Fight with what? Are you going to throw your empty heads at them?"
"Darui! What the hell do you mean by that?!" The hot-tempered elder pointed a shaking finger at him. "Are you afraid?!"
"I'm not afraid." Darui finally stood up. He didn't yell, but the sheer weight of his gaze forced the room into silence. "I just don't want Kumogakure's legacy to be completely erased from the map."
He leaned forward, planting his knuckles on the table. "Raikage-sama has been captured. Killer Bee-sama... has also been taken. What exactly do we have left to fight with? Do you even understand who our opponent is?"
Darui's gaze swept over the radical faction. "It's Jiraiya of the Sannin. It's the absolute elite of the Uchiha Clan."
Cee nodded grimly, stepping in to deliver the final blow to their fragile pride. "According to our latest intelligence, the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, Uzumaki Naruto, and the One-Tail Jinchuriki, Gaara, are also marching with this army."
The words hung in the air, toxic and paralyzing.
The gap in strength wasn't just large—it was an impossible abyss. It was the kind of disparity that bred absolute despair. The entire Shinobi Allied Forces had already been utterly crushed by Uchiha Akira. What could the crippled remnants of Kumogakure possibly do to resist?
The radical elders opened their mouths, desperate to scream another battle cry, to hurl another insult.
But as they looked at the map, at the sheer overwhelming force marching toward their home, their jaws snapped shut. They couldn't find a single word of defiance.
