Chapter 271 - Intervention in the Mist and the Mastermind Revealed

Chapter 271: Intervention in the Mist and the Mastermind Revealed

Mei Terumī returned swiftly, but quietly, to the dark, damp underground cave that served as the secret headquarters for the Kirigakure resistance army. The air was thick with the nervous sweat and stifled hope of the rebellion.

"Lady Mei!"

Ao, a fierce-looking sensory ninja with a unique patch over one eye, immediately came forward. His expression was slightly uneasy, tense from the wait.

Chōjūrō, a younger, timid-looking ninja who nevertheless carried a massive, unique sword (Hiramekarei), also nervously cast his gaze towards Mei Terumī.

Inside the cramped cave, the other dozen or so high-ranking ninja of the resistance army all held their breath, waiting for news that could either save or doom their village.

Mei Terumī looked around the room, taking in their anxious faces. She did not keep them in suspense.

"Elder Gensui," she announced, her voice resonating with cautious triumph, "has agreed to support us in our plan to overthrow the Mizukage's tyrannical rule."

This single sentence immediately sent a shockwave of electric energy through everyone present.

"What?!"

Ao's body trembled violently, his single visible eye widening as a wave of unbelievable ecstasy washed over him.

"Is it true, Lady Mei! Are you certain?!"

"Elder Gensui... is he truly willing to stand with us, against the Fourth?"

Chōjūrō's face flushed bright red with excitement. His massive sword hilt clattered softly against the wet ground.

Elder Gensui. Kirigakure's most senior, most prestigious elder. A figure who, though he hadn't interfered in Village affairs for many years, carried an influence that was still deeply rooted in every corner of the Village's hierarchy.

With his support, it was tantamount to gaining the tacit recognition of all the remaining powers of Kirigakure's old, respected era.

"That's great... that's absolutely great!"

"We have hope! Real hope!"

The long-suppressed hope and faith in their village's future erupted at this moment, replacing the despair of the Bloody Mist era.

Mei Terumī watched the momentarily rejoicing crowd, a long-lost, beautiful smile finally appearing on her face. A smile of genuine relief.

She carefully took out an ancient, brittle scroll from within her robes.

"This is the list Elder Gensui gave me."

She unrolled it briefly, showing the names written within. "It includes a portion of the ANBU Black Ops, as well as several respected seniors in the Village who are profoundly dissatisfied with Yagura's regime; they will all become essential components of our strength."

Ao's hand, usually steady from years of sensory training, trembled as he took the thin, brittle scroll. He immediately felt its immense political and strategic weight. This was not just paper; it was their lifeline.

The Shadow of Control.

In the dark part of the cave, hidden deep within the shadow of a large, jagged rock that completely blended with the darkness...

Uchiha Akira's figure stood completely silent. He was cloaked in Amenominaka's invisible, undetectable seal.

He smiled faintly, a cold, knowing curve of his lips.

"Gensui..." he thought to himself. "He's an old fellow who knows exactly how to adapt to the times. Shrewd politician."

However, this merely made the upcoming grand drama of the coup a little more interesting for him. Akira was not in a hurry to reveal himself. He would wait for the right moment.

Below, the ecstatic atmosphere of the resistance movement gradually subsided as the reality of the danger returned.

Ao carefully returned the scroll to Mei Terumī. His expression became more serious, more focused than ever before.

He seemed to have come to a difficult decision, taking a deep, fortifying breath before addressing the group.

"Lady Mei, Chōjūrō, and everyone here."

Ao's gaze swept over the dozen or so core members present.

"There's one thing... one crucial piece of information I've been hiding from you all."

"I kept it secret because this speculation is too astonishing, too unbelievable. I dared not speak it out before I felt we had the strength—Elder Gensui's support—to handle the reality."

"But now... I think it's time to tell you the truth."

Seeing Ao's profound, almost terrified solemnity, everyone's hearts tightened again. Mei Terumī frowned slightly, her own sharp gaze questioning him.

"Ao, what is it? What do you want to say?"

Ao was silent for a tense moment, gathering his courage.

"I suspect..." he began, his voice barely a whisper, thick with dread.

"The Fourth Mizukage... Lord Yagura... he... has been secretly controlled by a powerful Genjutsu for years."

As Ao spoke the words, a silence more profound than any battle lull descended upon the cave. Everyone around was stunned into shock, including the usually composed, perceptive Mei Terumī. She visibly showed a shocked and bewildered expression.

Chōjūrō's mouth hung open, and his words became stuttered.

"Ao... S-Senior Ao... what, what are you saying? That's impossible!"

"How is that possible!" A veteran Jōnin cried out in immediate disbelief, his face full of incredulity.

"Lord Mizukage is a Perfect Jinchūriki! How could he possibly be controlled by a Genjutsu?! It's common knowledge that the Tailed Beast's chakra breaks all mental control!"

[Inorin's Note: Jinchūriki are believed to be immune to Genjutsu due to their Tailed Beast's ability to disrupt foreign chakra flow, making Ao's claim revolutionary and terrifying.]

"I have no hard, definitive proof," Ao admitted, his face extremely solemn, acknowledging the risk of his claim.

"However, my Byakugan... once saw Lord Mizukage from a distance during an official mission report."

[Inorin's Note: Ao possesses the Byakugan in his right eye, which he stole from a Hyūga ninja during the last war. The Byakugan grants immense chakra insight.]

"Within his body, there was an extremely subtle, almost imperceptible foreign chakra flowing! A thread, buried deep in his network, that was not the Three-Tails' chakra and was not his own!"

Ao paused, allowing the tension to mount, then continued with his logical deduction.

"Furthermore... don't you find it strange? Lord Mizukage's personality suddenly changed so drastically! He immediately implemented the brutal Bloody Mist policy, throwing the Village into chaos! This is completely unlike the kind, rational Yagura we knew before!"

"Although the Tailed Beast is violent, Lord Yagura, as a perfect Jinchūriki, can completely control the Three-Tails! He would never destroy his own people!"

"The only logical explanation is that there is another person behind him! A terrifying mastermind who manipulates him with a powerful Genjutsu, treating the entire Kirigakure as a mere plaything!"

Ao's deduction was sharp, logical, and terrifying. It was like a basin of ice water poured over everyone's heads, replacing chaotic despair with cold, focused horror.

If this were true...

Then what they would face would not just be the child-Mizukage. It would be a terrifying, powerful, and utterly ruthless enemy hidden in the deepest shadows, one capable of secretly controlling a perfect Jinchūriki!

"It actually... is like this..." Mei Terumī murmured to herself, her mind racing. She had always thought that Yagura was merely blinded by power, becoming cruel and bloodthirsty in his old age.

She had never imagined that behind Yagura, such a terrifying mastermind was hidden, pulling the strings of their tragedy.

"That person..." Chōjūrō's voice trembled, fear returning despite his earlier excitement.

"If he can even control Lord Mizukage... then how terrifying must his strength be? What kind of power can penetrate a Jinchūriki's defenses?"

"We... what we might face next is that monster... a true puppet master..."

Expressions of renewed, deeper despair appeared on everyone's faces. The enemy was no longer a known quantity. It was a phantom god.

The Decision.

"Calm down, everyone!" Mei Terumī sharply shouted, forcing herself to maintain control. Her innate leadership asserted itself.

"Ao's discovery is not a bad thing for us; it's a good thing! A vital piece of intelligence!"

She looked at everyone, her expression fierce. "This at least shows that Lord Yagura's atrocities were not of his own free will! He is also a victim! A prisoner!"

"Our real enemy," she declared, pointing outwards, "is that cowardly bastard hiding in the shadows! Not Yagura!"

Mei Terumī's clear-headed words somewhat calmed the chaotic thoughts of the group.

"Ao is right," Mei conceded. "That mastermind must be very powerful and extremely cautious. He wouldn't expose himself easily."

"Every single step we take next must be careful. We need surgical precision."

She looked directly at Ao. "Ao, you immediately contact the people on the list. Tell them that the plan to move remains temporarily unchanged, but they must await my absolute, final command before acting."

"Yes, Lady Mei!" Ao, his mind relieved to have a task, immediately accepted the order.

Mei Terumī rubbed her temples, feeling a profound, crushing weariness. "Although we have the essential support of Elder Gensui, it seems our raw combat strength is still not enough for a direct confrontation."

"We have no chance of winning a direct, open battle against a controlled Jinchūriki and his shadow master."

"We must devise a foolproof, precise plan to rescue Lord Yagura first, without alerting that hidden mastermind. We need information and resources."

"This is... too difficult. Too delicate..."

The Intervention.

In the deep shadows, Uchiha Akira saw the entire emotional collapse and the subsequent, desperate shift in strategic thinking. He had heard everything.

"Interesting," he thought. "They need a deus ex machina. They need power. They need a path to victory against this unknown phantom.

They need a foreign, absolute power to guarantee the success of the coup.

"Perhaps," a faint, cold smile appeared on Uchiha Akira's handsome face, "I can intervene now. Give them the hope they need... and then take the entire Hidden Mist Village for myself."

He decided not to wait any longer. The time was ripe for his entrance.

He took a small, deliberate step forward, pulling his chakra from the Amenominaka cloaking technique.

Tap.

A faint, crisp footstep suddenly echoed in the silent, damp cave.

The sound was utterly unnatural in the tense, silent chamber.

"WHO?!"

Ao's body instantly tensed, his single eye snapping open wide with alarm. He spun sharply, his Byakugan activating instantly, focusing towards the direction of the sound!

Mei Terumī and Chōjūrō also whirled around in alarm, looking towards the area of the jagged rock where the sound came from.

From the deepest, blackest part of the shadows.

Uchiha Akira slowly, calmly emerged.

A faint, almost imperceptible, cold smile played on his handsome, youthful face.
