Chapter 265 - The Spoils of War and the Architect's Plan

Chapter 265: The Spoils of War and the Architect's Plan

Konohagakure, Ninja Academy Training Grounds.

The midday sun beat down on the dusty training field. Naruto Uzumaki had just finished a grueling practice session, his clothes plastered to his body with sweat, attempting to stabilize the spherical form of the Rasengan.

"Hey! Naruto!"

Inuzuka Kiba ran over, followed closely by Akamaru, who barked excitedly. Kiba's face was alight with excitement, his usual brashness amplified by the news he carried.

"Did you hear the latest rumors? They're finally official!"

"Hear what, Kiba? Stop yelling!" Naruto grumbled, wiping sweat from his brow, his fatigue forgotten instantly at Kiba's tone.

"Lady Tsunade and the main forces—the victorious army—are returning to the Village today! They're almost here!"

"Really?!" Naruto instantly jumped three feet high, a burst of energy erasing all traces of his physical fatigue. "Awesome! Sensei and Grandma Tsunade are back!"

Kiba's eyes shone with a vicarious, nationalistic pride. "They completely annihilated the Hidden Sand Village! Not just a victory, Naruto! An annihilation! And they captured thousands of people!"

"WOW!" Naruto exclaimed, his eyes wide. He immediately ran to Hinata Hyūga, who was practicing her Gentle Fist kata nearby.

"Senior Sister! Did you hear?! Let's go! We have to see them! We have to see Master and the Sand Ninja!"

Hinata's fair cheeks flushed slightly, a soft, warm color. She nodded softly, her inherent shyness battling her intense curiosity.

"Mm. Yes, Naruto-kun. We should go."

Uchiha Sasuke, standing nearby with his hands in his pockets after finishing his Chidori training, scoffed coldly.

"Hmph. Just a bunch of defeated, pathetic opponents. What's there to see?"

Despite his contemptuous words, his body honestly and immediately followed Naruto's hurrying steps towards the gate. He needed to assess the true gap in power.

Shikamaru Nara, leaning against a tree, yawned dramatically, muttering "So troublesome... just let me sleep." But he was still propped up by Chōji Akimichi, the entire new generation cohort—including Ino and Sakura—walking towards the Village entrance, drawn by the gravity of the historic event.

The Konoha Main Gate.

By the time they reached the Village entrance and the central avenue, it was already packed with people. The entire population seemed to have poured onto the streets.

Cheers, a continuous, deafening wave of sound, engulfed the entire street.

Countless villagers, shinobi on duty, and Academy students stood on tiptoes, desperately craning their necks forward, eyes focused on the distance.

"They're back! The heroes are back!"

"Konoha will win! We are unstoppable!"

A long, slow procession finally appeared at the end of the horizon, snaking through the trees.

Leading the way, riding a magnificent horse, was Lady Tsunade. She looked tired, but the grim determination in her eyes was replaced by a look of triumphant resolve.

Behind her marched thousands of Konoha ninja, their ranks tired but unified, carrying flags and banners.

Naruto's gaze quickly swept through the ranks, trying to pick out familiar faces.

"Master! Master!" he cheered.

"Hey, Senior Sister, who is that blond one? The one riding the giant white bird?"

He pointed at a flamboyant blond youth, wearing the Akatsuki cloak (already discarded, perhaps), who was following closely behind Tsunade, looking smug and theatrical.

"I don't know him," Sasuke frowned, his Sharingan momentarily activated out of curiosity. "But look at his forehead protector... he doesn't seem to be from our Village. He's a foreign ninja."

"What a strange, flashy person," Naruto scratched his head, already intrigued.

The procession continued its slow, powerful advance into the heart of Konoha.

As the latter half of the long procession entered the Village, the cheers on the street gradually subsided. A heavy, somber quiet replaced the jubilant sound.

Those were the Sunagakure prisoners of war.

Nearly a thousand Sunagakure ninja and their families—men, women, and children—strung together by special, visible chakra chains, walked slowly, dejectedly, in the center of the procession.

The shinobi wore looks of deep shame, exhaustion, and confusion.

Many of the Sunagakure ninja's eyes were filled with bitter, burning hatred, staring intently at the surrounding, triumphant Konoha villagers.

Some others' eyes were completely numb, hollowed out by despair, like walking corpses.

A Sunagakure Chūnin woman named Tayuya, her face streaked with dust and dried tears, silently observed everything around her, her mind calculating survival.

"The Village... is truly gone," she thought to herself, the weight of the loss crushing her.

"Kazekage-sama is dead, Elder Chiyo is also dead... the hierarchy is destroyed."

"What's the use of clinging to that ridiculous honor? Dying for a shattered ideal?" she thought pragmatically. "Surviving... survival is the only important thing left."

Tayuya's gaze fell on the Konoha logistics ninja who were distributing water and basic food rations to the prisoners.

Her throat involuntarily worked, swallowing down the dry dust. Perhaps... survival is possible.

Perhaps... living in a different place... serving a different master... isn't such a terrible thing after all.

At the very end of the procession, heavily guarded, was a special prisoner.

He carried a giant, sealed gourd on his back. His vivid red hair was particularly striking against the yellow sand, and his eyes were cold, hollow, and fixed straight ahead, as if utterly indifferent to the world, indifferent to his fate.

It was the Ichibi Jinchūriki of the Hidden Sand Village, Gaara.

The moment Naruto saw him, his heart inexplicably skipped a violent beat. A deep, instinctual recognition.

"This guy..." Naruto murmured, his playful demeanor gone.

Naruto could feel a churning, enormous chakra signature, intensely similar to his own, emanating from the red-haired youth. It was the presence of a Tailed Beast, raw and powerful.

At this critical moment.

Uchiha Akira's figure appeared at the very front of the procession, beside Tsunade. He had appeared instantly via Amenominaka.

"Master!" Naruto was the first to spot him, excitedly waving his arms, pride welling up in his chest.

"It's Akira!"

"Hokage-sama!"

On the street, a cheer even more thunderous than before instantly erupted! A sound of devotion and victory.

All Konoha Ninja present, regardless of their rank—from the Jōnin leaders to the fresh-faced Genin—at this moment, knelt down on one knee, their right hand pressed over their heart.

"Greetings, Hokage-sama! We welcome your victorious return!"

"You've worked hard, Tsunade. The mission was a complete success," Akira said, his voice calm, acknowledging the effort.

Tsunade looked at Uchiha Akira, a small, genuine smile lighting up her face despite her exhaustion.

Akira took Tsunade's hand, a public display of solidarity, then turned his gaze, his Rinnegan cold and analytical, towards the long lines of Sunagakure prisoners behind them.

Nara Shikaku, having returned earlier, immediately stepped forward, unrolling a large, prepared scroll.

"Hokage-sama. All units are awaiting deployment orders for the prisoners."

"Deal with them as planned, Shikaku," Uchiha Akira commanded, his voice projecting authority over the silent ranks. "No deviation."

"Yes!"

Nara Shikaku immediately began to issue the carefully calculated orders. The strategy was clear: assimilation, not extermination.

"Sunagakure Jinchūriki, Gaara, along with his siblings, Temari and Kankurō, will be immediately housed in the Uchiha Clan Territory. They will be accompanied and looked after by his sister, Temari, who will serve as his primary guardian. Designated as an S-rank surveillance target. Their chakra will be suppressed, but their lives are guaranteed."

[Inorin's Note: Gaara's siblings, Temari and Kankurō, would have been captured alongside him. Temari's role as guardian is a logical strategic choice given their family bond and Gaara's instability.]

Shikaku continued, his voice calm but absolute.

"All other Sunagakure Ninja—Chūnin, Jōnin, Genin—and all civilians will be escorted immediately to the West District and put to work in the construction of the new Konoha expansion project!"

"All prisoners will be evaluated based on their work performance, their loyalty, and their demonstrated skills!"

"Those with excellent performance, those who show true dedication to the new order, after a suitable period of review and psychological evaluation, may be granted the qualification to join Konoha and become full, free Konoha villagers!"

The strategic orders were relayed, echoing one by one down the procession.

The Sunagakure Ninja, who had been filled with hatred, defeat, and rage, were all stunned into paralyzed silence when they heard the last, final order.

Join Konoha?

Become Konoha villagers?

A commotion erupted in the crowd. Shouts of outrage and disbelief mingled with whispers of shock and faint, tentative hope.

"Dream on! Never!" a battle-scarred Sunagakure Jōnin roared, trying to break his chains. "Even if we die, we will never become Konoha's lackeys! You will never break our spirit!"

"That's right! Kill us now! We refuse!"

However, the majority of the remaining prisoners fell silent. The silence was heavier than the shouts.

Especially those ninja and civilians with children, with families. They stared at the ground.

They no longer had a country. Their Kazekage was dead. Their defenses were gone. Their pride was shattered.

Hatred couldn't feed them. Hatred couldn't rebuild a home.

If... if they could truly survive here, work, and give their children a stable future in this seemingly vibrant village...

Tayuya, the Chūnin, looked from the defeated, defiant Jōnin, to her own small hands, and then at the imposing figure of Uchiha Akira. Her eyes, which had held only calculation, grew more resolute.

She would survive. No matter the cost.

Naruto watched this entire, complex scene unfold, somewhat puzzled by the intricate politics, and nudged Hinata.

"Senior Sister, I don't get it. Why does Master want these enemies to join us? Why doesn't he just send them home?"

Hinata, her eyes shining with quiet admiration, looked at Uchiha Akira's back.

"Because, Naruto-kun," she explained softly, "Master doesn't just want to win a war. He wants to end all wars."

"He wants to build a new world without the hatred of the past, a world that can accommodate everyone. He will force them to accept peace."

"This is Master's ultimate Ninja Way."

After dealing with the immediate issue of the prisoners, Uchiha Akira's gaze fell on the flamboyant figure of Deidara, who was watching the scene with wide-eyed curiosity and artistic appreciation.

"Deidara."

"Here! Big Brother!" Deidara stiffened instantly, abandoning his observational posture, immediately standing at attention with bizarre enthusiasm.

"Starting today, you are assigned to the ANBU, directly under my personal command. Your specialization will be long-range, tactical demolition and rapid deployment."

"Yes! Big Brother! I accept the sacred duty!" Deidara's face flushed with excited delirium.

"I guarantee to complete the mission! I will definitely show you what ultimate, spectacular art truly is, on a global scale! Hm!"

Having arranged all the immediate, critical matters, Uchiha Akira left the procession, walking quickly back towards the Hokage Tower with Tsunade.

With the swift, brutal annihilation of Sunagakure, the delicate balance of the Ninja World had been completely shattered.

The current situation across the continent was treacherous, unstable, and volatile. There were many complex diplomatic and strategic details that needed further careful discussion in the highest circles of power to come up with appropriate plans and advance the next, critical step of Konoha's new destiny.

Inside the Hokage Office.

Hours later, the sun had set. The office was quiet, save for the soft sound of paper rustling.

Uchiha Akira, now back in his official robes, closed the last reviewed scroll—a detailed manifest of captured Suna armaments and resources.

The Sunagakure prisoners of war had been perfectly assimilated into the construction workforce.

Under Nara Shikaku's ruthless, brilliant planning, these former enemy ninja had now become the cheapest, most readily available labor force in the rapid construction of Konoha's massive new district.

Konoha was devouring the flesh and blood of the defeated at an unprecedented, terrifying speed, growing stronger, richer, and more powerful with every passing hour.

Behind Uchiha Akira, Tsunade, having recovered her energy, gently and expertly massaged his neck and shoulders, easing the immense burden of command.

"The matter of Sunagakure is settled for now," Tsunade said, her voice low.

"What do you plan to do next, Akira? The rest of the world must be going insane."

Uchiha Akira leaned back against the chair, his eyes still closed, feeling the faint, floral fragrance and the comforting pressure coming from behind him.

"Kumogakure and Iwagakure can no longer sit still," he murmured. "That old fox Ōnoki, and that hothead brute Raikage, Ay... they are more afraid than anyone now. Sunagakure's today is their inevitable tomorrow."

"They will definitely, desperately form an alliance."

Tsunade's brows furrowed slightly, her fingers pausing their massage.

"Then... won't we have to face the combined attack of two major Ninja Villages simultaneously? A concentrated front from both the East and the North?"

Uchiha Akira shook his head at her words.

"Perhaps, it's not just these two Ninja Villages, Tsunade."

"Those countless smaller Villages—Hidden Grass, Hidden Rain, Hidden Waterfall... they will probably also be drawn into the Kumogakure and Iwagakure alliance, serving as cannon fodder, used as human shields."

He opened his eyes, the purple Rinnegan blazing with calm confidence. "However, don't worry about the small fry. They are just a bunch of disorganized rabble. Nothing to fear. They will break and scatter quickly."

"Our focus remains on the leaders. The true power. The Kage."
