Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: E-girl

In the beginning, the connection was simple. Mortals fought, bled, and died in the names of the Heavens, and in return, the Gods reached down to sharpen their swords and heal their wounds. It was a covenant of direct faith yet a silent, sacred bond.

But as the ages passed, men stopped looking up. They started looking at their own tools, their own hands, and the heavens went cold. The gods didn't die, they just drifted away, starving as the bridge between realms began to rot.

Then, the bridge was rebuilt. Not through prayer, but through The Stream.

The Gods realized that humans did not need to believe in a higher power to empower one; they only needed to watch. A new era dawned where a mortal's every action could be broadcast to the Heavens. By dedicating these actions to a specific deity, the mortal gained Divine Essence, the raw "Experience" required to transcend their limits.

Man, dwarf, elf, or even the "primitive" races like goblins and minotaurs—it doesn't matter. In this age, if you can breathe, you can stream. And if you can stream, you can climb the celestial ladder.

Somewhere beyond the Northern Gate, in a stretch of wilderness where the trees grow thick and the monsters grow hungry, it was the prime location for up and coming stars to make themselves known.

"Haii guys~"

A young woman chirped, her voice hitting a register that felt like a needle to the eardrum. She flashed a peace sign at the empty air, tilting her head just enough to catch the light. She has shoulder-length blonde hair, light blue eyes, and a face so round and cute it looked out of place against the backdrop of a monster-infested forest.

She wore a white linen shirt tucked into leather armor, an iron gorget protecting her throat, and a skirt that was far too short for trekking through briars. It was a "battle outfit" designed for camera angles, not for survival.

"Oh my gods, thank you for the donation, Sir SwordSimp!" she squealed, blowing a kiss at the invisible lens hovering before her. "We're so close to our goal for today! If we hit fifteen thousand viewers, I'll show you guys my father's 'Heavenly Splitter' technique on the next goblin camp we find!"

She giggled, adjustung the strap of her armor to flaunt her chest just a fraction more.

Beneath the high-pitched "e-girl" act and the ridiculous skirt lay a lineage that most streamers would kill for. She was the daughter of one of the greatest swordsmen to ever walk the lands.

She wasn't just here to look cute. She was here to farm.

"Ugh, guys, the lighting in this clearing is literal trash," she panted, feigning exhaustion as she leaned against a mossy rock. "Being a solo adventurer is sooooo hard. My skin is going to be a mess by the time I get back to the Gate. Can we get some donations for the struggle?''

A twig snapped in the darkness behind her. A low, guttural growl vibrated through the trees something heavy, something with too many teeth.

She didn't turn around. She didn't even stop smiling at her viewers. Her hand simply drifted down to the hilt of the exquisite, silver-pommeled sword at her hip.

"Oop! Looks like we have a 'special guest' joining the stream," she whispered into the camera, her eyes sparkling with a hunger that had nothing to do with her persona. "Don't blink, guys. This one's for the subscribers."

The creature a massive, tusked shadow-boar crashed out of the treeline, its eyes glowing with a feral hunger for the "bright" thing in the clearing. It charged with the weight of a runaway carriage, its hooves stirring up the forest floor.

In one fluid motion, she unsheathed her sword. the steel hissed like a snake. She stepped forward, her body coiling into a twisted-legged stance, her blade held low and pointed to the side.

The boar lunged. A flash of silver cut through the dim light.

There was no struggle, Just the sound of steel meeting hide and a wet, heavy thud. The beast's roar died in its throat, replaced by the silence of a limp body sliding across the dirt behind her. It lay in a heap, its lifeblood soaking into the moss.

She turned back to the invisible "Eye," leaning forward until her face filled the view, her short skirt riding up as she flaunted her legs for the camera.

"Aww, thank you all for the love!" she chirped, blowing another kiss that turned into a shimmering burst of pink essence. "Since we hit our goal, I guess I have to keep going deeper into the woods, right? Let's see if we can find something really scary to play with!"

She started walking, her hips swaying for the thousands of eyes watching her every move. Behind her, the shadow-boar began to dissolve into gray ash, its essence already being siphoned away by the gods who sponsored her "show."

"Omg guys, I just heard the juiciest rumor!" she chirped, skipping over a twisted root as if she were on a casual stroll through a park. "Supposedly, there's this goblin—a literal goblin, can you believe it? who has a massive following. Like, a total viral sensation! Word is he's building a whole army in the deep woods. Doesn't that sound like so much fun?"

She stopped and leaned toward the camera, tapping her chin with a gloved finger.

"Imagine the content! A literal goblin General stream. We have to go crash the party, right? It's basically a forced collab at that point!".
