Chapter 24 - Eternal Flame

The world had become a strange place after the shift but the natural order was still somewhat the same.

Humans and other creatures needed a way to dispose of their dead and unfortunately they couldn't bury them.

The rematerialization rule of their world made that difficult.

No person or animal could dig into soil and bury their dead.

Soon after the shift a device labeled the incinerator was placed in multiple places and towns across the world.

This device was proposed to have been sent by the creator to solve this issue.

Humanity's and other creatures' worries are over now.

The council quickly adapted to the addition of the incinerator and propaganda was spread online to promote the concept of it.

An image was shared online of a chalk outline of a body, walking in a straight line from Earth through space to eventually reach the sun.

Many saw this image with subtle undertones of the council's depiction of the human experience.

Humans would be born in light and eventually decomposed in fire.

An image following that picture was shared online that depicted the Greek myth character Icarus falling towards the sun with several phrases underneath it.

Don't fly too high or too low.

Live a comfortable life and rejoice in joining the fire at the end of your life.

Embrace the cycle.

Under the influence of this propaganda or not. People will and have walked down this path.

These individuals have held their deceased loved ones in their hands with tears running down their faces.

The eternal fire however shows no mercy.

This is why the incinerator has become one of the council's greatest tools.

The incinerator allows them to showcase how easy it is to get rid of pests.

Councilor J and Mara looked down from a private room placed at the top of a silver tower connected to the SPORTS & MORE stadium.

The inside of the silver tower had a long blue sofa, several checkered bar stools, and grey walls encapsulating the building.

This gigantic stadium would be where the execution would be taking place.

Councilor J adjusted his cream suit on the sofa, "When is the broadcast beginning?"

Mara says coldly, "In a few minutes."

Mara sat on the sofa, brushing her hair and applied a matte lipstick to her face while staring at a small pocket mirror in her hand.

Mara says, "Tough spot you're in J or were in. I'm not surprised… Deception is your best skill."

The young woman shifts her pocket mirror to the left to try to find guilt of the incident on the councilor's face.

Not an ounce of guilt could be found.

Mara says, "No use to try and rile you up this time. You're quite shameless."

Councilor J pauses before saying, "Deception? It's more like a polite misdirection."

Mara shakes her head.

Councilor J chuckles, "I'm not in a tough spot at all, you know? I'm quite excited for the public to see what the ambassador is made of."

Mara grins, "The ambassador will be taking care of this execution? What a sight this will be, more people will definitely tune into this live stream."

Mara closes her small pocket mirror, "Ready?"

Councilor J says, "Whenever you're."

Mara snaps and activates the live stream, "Hello my lovely viewers at home. I am the main reporter of live-live-live, your favorite newsbroadcasting network and I have a special live stream for you all today."

The camera projected three images. One screen on the far left side was the paid to chat comments left by viewers, on the middle screen was a view of the center of the stadium, and on the far right side was an image of themselves.

Mara smiles widely, "I was able to gain an exclusive interview yet again with councilor J. Let's hear some words from our esteemed council member to start things off."

Councilor J waves, "Hello everyone, many of you see me as just a councilor but I like to see you all like family. Family is people we protect at all costs."

Councilor J smiles politely, "Today you all will marvel at the execution of a few monsters. I must give you a disclaimer that you all should show no pity for these creatures. These parasites have blended into our society and have harmed the order of our world."

Councilor J clasps his hands on top of each other and leans close to the screen, "Remember, what you see during this execution is the extent I would sacrifice for each and every one of you."

Councilor J pauses before he says, "Now let's get to some questions before we begin the main event."

Mara looks toward her projected display on her left, "Is it true the ambassador will be leading this execution?"

Councilor J nods, "Yes, it's absolutely true that the head of The United Council Of Defense will be partaking in leading this execution."

Mara squints toward her left display, "Next, looks like we have a fan of the ambassador. How does his gear work scientifically speaking?"

Councilor J says, "The fusion suit in very simple terms is powered by blood. The device removes excess ingredients in our blood and converts blood into mostly water. The suit then transforms this water into steam, spins a black turbine on the back of the suit, and generates electricity."

Mara was appalled, "Blood? The suit was large enough to fit a thirteen foot tall frame of a faceless. That suit must require a lot of blood to use properly, am I right?"

Councilor J says, "Yes, the suit does require a substantial amount of blood. This world however has plenty of creatures we must dispose of with lots of blood and that's a resource we can use."

Councilor J leans back on the sofa, "In short it's not a problem."

Mara makes a disgusted expression on her face but quickly composes herself.

Mara looks back toward her left display.

Mara says, "It seems we have another question regarding the fusion suit. How does the suit collect blood?"

Councilor J says, "The suit has multiple ways to collect blood. One of them is the use of the synringe-like devices on the back of the suit."

Mara yawns, "How effective but let me ask you this. What can this suit really do?"

Councilor J grins, "I'd rather show you than explain that. Let the execution begin."

In the corner of the stadium, two metal doors were placed on the ground with jagged metal teeth.

These doors remained closed and opened every few seconds for flames to seemingly try to escape through them.

Four groups of flesh monsters were spread throughout the stadium. The groups of monsters attempted to cower in the large shadow casted by the tall silver tower attached to the arena.

CLACK. CLACK. CLACK.

Footsteps echoed throughout the arena.

A giant among both the faceless and of humanity started to walk toward the middle of the arena.

A champion among champions.

A creature that could not be rivaled.

A faceless, that was approximately thirteen feet tall stopped after they reached the center of the stadium.

The ambassador's white, black, and red mechanical suit shined like no other in the light of the endless daylight.

A camera zoomed in on the back of the entity's suit which had a graffitied white font with the printed letters TUCOF.

The ambassador clenched his fist.

The small black and red syringes on his hand connected to his fingertips, making blood rush through his suit and turn into steam. This caused the black turbine on the back of his suit to activate.

Red sparks of electricity started to radiate from his fists and legs.

This wasn't a new type of electricity though but merely a trick of the eyes.

The blood had reflected sunlight toward the sparks to create this effect.

The flesh monsters gazed at the council's killing machine with absolute terror.

This fight would most definitely be their last. These monsters had two choices, to die by suicide by jumping into the endless fire or fight until their last breath.

Either way, there was no hope of survival.

A flesh monster with two heads walks forward and meets the ambassador in the middle of the arena.

The flesh monster separated on camera into two identical humans.

The two individuals wore all black clothing while having identical blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes.

The Ambassador says, "How disgusting…"

One of the twins gestures toward himself and the other cowering flesh monsters, "Don't kill us or them. You know this isn't right after everything we've done. We deserve a raise if anything…"

The Ambassador says coldly, "Let me know when you're done."

The other twin says, "Come on, we're Ray and Jeff. We and our race have helped you refill your tanks for your suit when you really needed it."

The Ambassador smiles, "Thank you for your service. Your efforts will not be forgotten."

Ray yells toward the camera attached to the silver tower, "Councilor J is a fucking fraud. He hired us to do his dirty work. He should be the one who dies."

The Ambassador sighs, "You know dialogue is being actively censored right? The public will not remember your names but I can assure you, the council will."

Jeff spits on the ground, "Fuck the council."

Jeff transforms his arm into a long piece of flesh and attempts to cut through the ambassador's mechanical suit.

Red sparks of electricity suddenly flew past Jeff and Ray in the blink of an eye.

The ambassador with a firm grip on his blood powered mechanized sword, places the devices back into its scabbard.

The Ambassador says, "Thank you for your service to the council."

The flesh monsters had become nothing but ash blowing in the wind.

The irony of the situation was hilarious.

The two had become ash one way or another it seemed.

The flesh monsters huddled in the corner had slowly emerged from the shadows.

The monsters had become one.

The creature had six heads and was approximately twenty four feet tall.

The creature roared and sent several of its long appendaddies toward the council's champion.

This was to no avail.

The ambassador ran toward the monster with murderous intent while red electricity followed its wake.

Several of the monster's long appendages had been cut off in milliseconds while the champion closed in on its target.

The Ambassador places his sword back into its scabbard, "Thank you for your service."

The ambassador charged a small amount of electricity into his right fist and slammed it into the middle of the creature.

A gigantic hole was created in the monster and a strong wind spread throughout the stadium.

The ambassador used the syringe in the back of its suit to stab the creature and collect some of its blood.

The creature dried up and looked most similar to a grape that had been left out in the sun for far too long.

Slowly the champion made its way toward the incinerator and tossed the remains of the creature into it.

The flames consumed the flesh monster instantly.

The ambassador turned his head toward the camera with its faceless face empty of all emotion.

For some reason, however, viewers felt a menacing energy radiating from the faceless entity.

The live stream cut and was brought back toward Mara and Councilor J.

Mara clicks her tongue, "I have to say. The ambassador's performance was truly spectacular."

Councilor J looks at his watch quickly with slight hesitation.

A smirk spreads on Councilor J's face, "What can I say? The council will always do its best to both mediate the public's concerns and protect them from any potential threats."

Mara says with curiosity, "Will we see more of the ambassador in these coming weeks? I feel like he's been working out of the public's eye for far too long now."

Councilor J looks toward the camera with cold determination in his eyes, "Only if serious problems arise. He will take care of them. For now, everyone can rest easy. These problems will be taken care of off screen."

Mara clenches her teeth before saying, "That's disappointing but understandable."

Mara says with fake enthusiasm, "Thank you for joining me today for this livestream, Councilor J."

Councilor J nods his head, "Of course, Mara. Now let me leave the public with one last message. We may not be able to change our world but I can assure you, we can definitely survive it."
