Standing on the turf at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, Terumi Shinji and Overtake Trap wore the same curious expression as they stared at the little deer that had emerged from the grove in the distance. Its furry little ears twitched, and it tilted its head as though puzzled, making Overtake Trap laugh at once.
The little animal was simply too adorable, and she could not help delighting in the sight.
Unexpectedly, perhaps because Overtake Trap looked so gentle and approachable, the deer cautiously began inching toward her. Those tentative little steps—it clearly wanted to come closer, but because of the other horse girls on the course, it only dared creep forward bit by bit.

The deer instantly sprang away. Clearly Brian had frightened it. In just a few bounds, it vanished back into the grove, leaving Overtake Trap—who had been on the verge of happily welcoming it over—with a face full of disappointment.

He kept those thoughts off his face, but his expression remained calm all the same, making Overtake Trap puff out her cheeks ever so slightly.
It had been a long time since she had finally gotten a day where Shinji was focused mainly on her again, yet the man's expression remained so flat and composed.

Shinji's gaze shifted to the far end of the track, where Saint Halo, covered in dust from head to toe, was already starting yet another mock race. Quite a few teams had made the same decision Shinji had—bringing every one of their horse girls over here together.
That was undoubtedly a good thing for Saint Halo. Here, she could spar against girls from different teams and under different trainers. Those varied, ever-changing styles were far more complex than what she usually encountered back in Japan, and there was much she could learn from them.
Watching Saint Halo throw herself even into dirt-track mock races just for the sake of experience, Shinji nodded in approval.
At his side, Overtake Trap's cheeks puffed up even more. Once again, her trainer's attention had drifted somewhere else. She had originally wanted to test just how much of her ability she could bring out on this turf, which she still had not fully adapted to yet—
but Shinji's instructions had ruined that plan.
"Overtake Trap?"
The voice from behind made both Overtake Trap and Terumi Shinji turn their heads. There stood Ligonglao beside her trainer, battle intent burning in her eyes.
As soon as two of the three horse girls widely considered the strongest entrants in this Dubai Sheema Classic stood facing each other, the scattered gazes around them all snapped toward the scene.
Overtake Trap could of course feel the other girl's intentions. She glanced at her trainer beside her. His expression had not changed in the slightest.
That in itself was already an answer. Today, Overtake Trap would not accept the challenge.
Back then, the reason she had sparred against several European horse girls had not been because of Shijiaji's provocation at all, but rather because Shinji himself had deemed it necessary.
Now, whether from the perspective of strength or of significance, there was no reason at all for Overtake Trap to race a mock against her. Shinji merely shrugged and continued walking toward the outside of the course.
The fact that Saint Halo still wanted to stay here and keep throwing herself into things was a good sign. It meant her initiative had truly been fully awakened. All Shinji needed to do was let her continue feeling things out here, then help her review and summarize everything that evening.
Ligonglao stared blankly at Overtake Trap's retreating back, clearly not having expected such a clean and decisive refusal. The words of challenge and invitation she had wanted to say died in silence.
Her gaze shifted to Saint Halo, who was still struggling in another mock race. It was obvious that the junior teammate of Overtake Trap's was not yet especially strong; she was only barely managing to hold onto a board position in this training race.
Only her eyes were worth noting.
Still nowhere near Overtake Trap… that was Ligonglao's first thought. But then she laughed softly, finding herself ridiculous.
To compare a junior who had never even won a G1 to Overtake Trap.
Watching the direction Overtake Trap had gone, Ligonglao's desire to train even harder and defeat her only grew stronger.

By the time they left the course together, Narita Brian had caught up with them. Although she had resumed training, the lingering instability in her legs had not yet completely disappeared, so Shinji's plan for her was still not especially harsh.
She was therefore not too tired, and quickly caught up in a few long steps.
As far as Dubai's strongest point went, Shinji thought it had to be its outrageously lavish facilities.
The treatment room for the horse girls' recovery and maintenance contained all sorts of devices one could not find anywhere in all of Central Tracen Academy—machines Shinji had previously only ever seen in books. The moment he learned those facilities existed, he immediately decided that after training today, every one of his horse girls would be going through a full maintenance session.
Besides, the things written in books always had to be personally verified to some degree. Shinji glanced unconsciously at Overtake Trap's and Narita Brian's calves. Even without touching them, the fine sheen and smoothness seemed almost palpable.
His gaze slipped away after only a moment. His fingers twitched slightly. Though that had not originally been his intent, checking the post-treatment effect by touch would still count as a trainer's responsibility.

At the system's weird little noise, Shinji frowned in annoyance. Overtake Trap and Narita Brian, thinking he had just remembered something important, both halted their steps.
"It's nothing…"
He offered the explanation and kept walking, moving a couple of body-lengths ahead—only to hear a familiar voice just as he was about to turn around.
