Vael's wolf purred and howled inside his mind. The sound was loud enough to keep him awake. It wasn't a normal shift. It wasn't irritation or a warning. It was excitement.
His wolf moved restlessly, almost pleased, like something had gone very right. He did not know why his wolf had suddenly become excited. Nothing had happened. He was lying in bed.
Vael stayed still for a moment, trying to understand what was going on. He tried to keep the wolf under control, but it didn't work.
"Wake up! Wake up now!" Runn said.
"What is wrong with you, Runn? Calm down." Vael muttered under his breath.
His wolf didn't calm down. If anything, it pushed harder, making him more alert than he wanted to be.
Vael opened his eyes. The ceiling of his bedroom came into view. The light coming through the curtain was too bright. He blinked a few times.
Vael let out a slow breath and rubbed his face before sitting up slightly. As he did, the memories from the night before came back clearly.
