Chapter 10 - Love destination

The first rays of morning sun painted the ruined streets of Fortyok in soft gold. Reconstruction had already begun.

Hammers rang against stone. Workers shouted instructions to each other. The smell of fresh bread and hot soup filled the air. Supply wagons from Coressa were handing out food to everyone who needed it.

I stood at the main work site with Aaswa. We watched the busy crowd. People moved with purpose. Some cleared broken wood and stone. Others laid new foundations for houses.

Old Erwok and Mirabla walked up to me slowly. Their faces were wrinkled, but their eyes were full of light.

Erwok put a trembling hand on my shoulder. His voice was warm. "son… you have given us hope again. May the gods bless you and your family."

Mirabla wiped tears from her eyes and smiled.

"You are not just an emperor to us. You are like our own son now."

A strange warmth filled my chest. I bowed my head a little.

"We will rebuild everything," I told them. "No child will go hungry here again. I promise you."

Not far away, Aerika and Saarna were playing with the orphanage children. They were in an open courtyard. Laughter echoed off the broken walls.

A small boy, no older than five, ran up and hugged Aerika's leg. He looked up with shining eyes.

"Empress Aunty! You are so pretty!"

Aerika's cheeks turned pink. She knelt down and gently ruffled his hair. She looked embarrassed, but she was smiling.

Saarna watched them. Her face softened. She leaned close to Aerika and whispered,

"You look good with children. You'll be a good mother."

Aerika blushed even more. But she didn't say no.

A new supply wagon from Coressa arrived. Workers started giving out fresh bread and soup to the children and old couples. Then chaos broke out.

Several children and a few adults grabbed their stomachs. They fell to the ground, groaning. Their faces went pale. Cold sweat covered their foreheads.

It was mild poison.

Saarna moved fast. She ran to one of the children and checked him. Her face turned hard.

"This is the same symbol poison," she said sharply. "The one used in the forged letters. The traitor did this. He wants to break the people's trust in us."

Anger burned in my chest. This was the traitor's first direct attack on Fortyok. He wanted to destroy the hope we had just started to build.

Before I could give any order, a familiar white shape slithered into the courtyard.

The White Snake.

It moved calmly toward the sick people. It wasn't aggressive. It gently touched each poisoned child and adult with its head. A soft, silvery light spread from its body.

The poison was a weak copy of the snake's own ancient venom. Cretel's voice spoke in my mind:

"There is no danger. This snake's power is far stronger than the copied poison. It is protecting what you are trying to rebuild."

Slowly, the children's color came back. The adults stopped groaning. They were safe.

The white snake didn't leave. It coiled near the orphanage children and played with them. The kids weren't afraid anymore. They giggled and reached out to touch its smooth scales. One little girl even rode on its back for a few seconds. The snake moved slowly, like a gentle older sibling. Its glowing eyes looked soft and happy.

For a while, things felt normal again.

Coressa's cooks had also arrived. They made hot meals for everyone. The orphanage children, old couples, Aerika, and Saarna all sat together to eat.

But Aaswa and I noticed something. The children were eating happily, but we held back. We wanted to make sure every child had enough first.

Aaswa looked at me and smiled. His voice was quiet.

"Brother… this reminds me of Tejol Bastion. We did the same thing back then. We fed the younger ones first. Then we shared whatever was left."

I smiled too. I remembered those nights on the orphanage rooftop. We would stare at the stars while eating scraps. We sat there quietly, lost in the memory.

Then Aerika and Saarna walked over. Each carried a plate of warm food.

Aerika sat beside me. She used her own hands to feed me small bites.

"You've been hungry for so long," she said softly. "Eat."

On my other side, Saarna did the same for Aaswa. She fed him with gentle care.

It was simple. But it felt more precious than any victory.

Later that afternoon, Aerika pulled me aside. We stood near the edge of the work site, away from others.

She looked at me with honest eyes.

"Mirel… I am slowly starting to trust you again. But I'm still scared. Scared that the old Mirel might return. Scared everything will break once more."

I took her hands gently.

"I will never let that happen," I promised. "I am not chasing power anymore. I am chasing the family I lost. I will prove it to you every single day."

Aerika gave a small, real smile. She whispered,

"I want to go back and meet Himel and Vanisha properly… not as strangers, but as family."

As evening approached, the four of us decided to visit a special hidden valley that the locals called the "Destination of Love" — a place said to deepen the bond between couples who visited it.

The valley was breathtaking.

Towering lavender-tinted mountains touched a sky filled with soft, glowing nebulae. At the highest point stood a solitary World Tree with vibrant pink blossoms, radiating a soft turquoise aura that felt like pure life force. Massive luminous waterfalls spilled from the cliffs, glowing with inner violet and blue light. As the water fell, it released shimmering sparks and tiny "spirit birds" made of pure light that flew upward against the current.

The lower part of the valley was a vibrant twilight wonderland. Neon flora in deep magenta and white covered the rocks, pulsing with inner light. The river itself was liquid energy — pulsing electric blues and purples, flowing over tiered stone platforms like a staircase of light that disappeared into a soft carpet of glowing clouds.

Beneath the surface lay a mirrored underwater world — a thriving coral reef with golden fish and sleek dolphins swimming through neon-colored corals. The water was so clear that starlight from above filtered down, illuminating the sandy floor.

We sat in two pairs under the glowing pink blossoms of the World Tree — Aerika and I on one side, Aaswa and Saarna on the other.

For a while, we simply enjoyed the view in comfortable silence. Then the mood turned playful. We started a light game of Tag

among the glowing flowers. Aerika laughed freely as I chased her gently between the blossoms. Saarna and Aaswa joined in, the four of us running like carefree children under the magical sky.

As night fully descended, we returned to the orphanage. We had brought beautiful glowing flowers from the valley for the children. The kids' faces lit up with joy as they received them.

The next morning, the day of departure arrived.

We prepared to leave for Vaeloria. Erwok and Mirabla gave Aerika an emotional goodbye. The old lady hugged her tightly and whispered, "Come back soon, our Aerika. This place will always be your home too." Erwok patted her head with fatherly affection, tears in his eyes.

As we rode out of Fortyok, a sudden magical incident occurred on the road.

A group of dark mages ambushed us — clearly sent by the traitor. Dark spells flew toward us. Mirel, Aaswa, Aerika, and Saarna fought together. Aerika and Saarna's teamwork was beautiful to watch — Aerika's wind magic combined with Saarna's precise sword strikes created a deadly synergy. We handled the attackers efficiently, but the message was clear: the traitor was no longer hiding.

When we finally reached the border of Vaeloria, Cretel suddenly activated in my mind and showed me an urgent vision.

In the vision, a secret meeting was happening inside the palace. A hooded figure (the traitor) was speaking to several shadowed people:

" The Emperor is returning with two queens. We cannot let the others come back. Target the next one immediately… before the Emperor returns."

My eyes snapped open.

The real war had already begun inside my own home.

To be continued…
