Chapter 21 - A World Of Their Own

Morning sunlight filled the apartment.

Not harsh.

Gentle. Warm.

A Different Kind of Home

The living room no longer looked like a place meant for quiet living.

It had transformed.

Soft mats covering the floor

Low shelves filled with books—some children's, some far too advanced

A small whiteboard filled with messy symbols and shapes

And in the center—

Three small figures sat together.

Focused.

The Unusual Quiet

Mingyun paused at the doorway.

She had expected noise.

Running. Arguing. Crying.

Instead—

Silence.

Not empty silence.

But… concentrated.

She stepped closer.

Watching Them Learn

One of them held a tablet, tapping carefully.

Not randomly.

Intentionally.

Another leaned over, pointing at something on the screen.

"No, that's wrong," the quiet one said softly.

The third frowned slightly, then reached over and adjusted something.

The screen changed.

Mingyun blinked.

They weren't playing.

They were… figuring something out.

Too Fast

She had noticed it before.

Little things.

They spoke earlier than expected

Recognized patterns faster than other children

Remembered things after seeing them once

But this—

This felt different.

"…What are you doing?" she asked gently.

Three heads turned at once.

The most expressive one smiled immediately.

"We're fixing it."

"Fixing?"

The tablet was turned toward her.

Lines. Shapes. Symbols.

Simple code.

Mingyun froze for a second.

"…Who showed you this?"

They looked at each other.

Then—

"You did," the observant one said calmly.

She didn't remember teaching them that.

Not directly.

But they had watched.

Listened.

Learned.

And now—

They were using it.

Natural Harmony

Despite everything—

They didn't fight much.

Didn't compete in the way most children did.

They worked… together.

One would start something

Another would refine it

The third would test it

Like pieces of a system.

Mingyun sat down slowly, watching them.

Her expression unreadable.

"…You're all strange," she murmured softly.

They didn't understand the word.

But they smiled anyway.

A Mother's Moment

Later that day, things returned to normal.

Or at least—

Their version of normal.

One clung to her while she prepared food.

Another sat nearby, flipping through a book far above their age level.

The third followed Mei around, asking endless questions.

"Why does this work?""What happens if we change it?""Can we make something better?"

Mei laughed helplessly.

"Where do they even get this from?"

Mingyun didn't answer.

She already knew.

Quiet Pride

That evening, after they had tired themselves out, the apartment grew calm again.

Three small bodies rested peacefully.

Mingyun sat beside them.

As she always did.

But this time—

Her gaze lingered differently.

Not just protective.

Not just tired.

Proud.

"You'll be alright…" she whispered.

"Even without me… you'll be alright."

The words came out softly.

Unintentionally.

But they stayed in the air.

Far Away

Across the city, Gu Yi reviewed a new proposal.

Advanced systems.Tech integration.Future-focused infrastructure.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

Something about it felt… familiar.

Not the content.

The thinking.

Efficient.Layered.Unexpectedly creative.

"Who designed this part?" he asked.

His assistant checked.

"It's from a small independent contributor. No major background."

Gu Yi leaned back slightly.

"Interesting…"

For a brief moment—

That same strange feeling surfaced again.

Connection.

Without explanation.

Back in the apartment, one of the children stirred in their sleep.

A soft voice, barely audible:

"…Mama…"

Mingyun looked up instantly.

Her expression softened.

She moved closer, adjusting the blanket gently.

Three small lives.

Growing faster than they should.

Understanding more than they should.

And loving her—

Without question.

But outside their small, perfect world—

Pressure was building.

And soon—

That world would no longer stay hidden.
