Chapter 41 - A Rigged Game of Fate

Uchiha Ren wasted no time.

He immediately ordered Uchiha Raizen to prepare everything—they would depart for the Land of Fire's capital at dawn.

There was no room for delay.

Konoha was already on the brink.

Creditors were lining up.

A shinobi village, at its core, was nothing more than a mercenary organization. The only difference was that the Fire Daimyō stood as its largest employer—wrapped in the formalities of lord and vassal.

Shinobi fought for pay.

And now?

They were funding their own war.

If the money didn't come soon—

Mutiny wouldn't be far behind.

Raizen nodded and left to make preparations.

Once he was gone, Ren exhaled slowly and slapped his cheeks lightly.

He couldn't let this mess drag down his mood.

Because just moments ago—

The system notification had sounded.

The long-term mission—

"Become Hokage of Konoha"—

Had finally been completed.

And this…

Was what he had worked for.

Ren straightened up.

Folded his hands together.

"Buddha… Guanyin… Jade Emperor… Jesus…"

A quick round of prayers.

Then—

He opened the roulette.

Clicked.

Draw.

The wheel spun wildly.

Faster.

Faster.

Dozens of rotations—

Before finally slowing.

Stopping.

On—

Gold.

Ren's eyes lit up.

"Please…"

"Please—!"

The result appeared.

"Mangekyō Sharingan (Uchiha Itachi Variant)"

"…Tch."

Ren clicked his tongue.

Of all the golden rewards—

This was what he got?

Not bad.

But not ideal.

The Mangekyō Sharingan was undeniably powerful.

But it came with a fatal flaw.

Use it too much—

And blindness was inevitable.

Worse—

He hadn't even awakened his own unique abilities.

No personal dōjutsu.

No reflection of his own psyche.

For a moment—

He felt a trace of disappointment.

Then shook his head.

Forget it.

With his circumstances—

He would likely never have awakened it naturally anyway.

An orphan.

No one he truly cherished.

No emotional trigger strong enough to unlock it.

And even if there were—

Would he really sacrifice that person's life for power?

No.

Some prices—

Weren't worth paying.

"…What a cursed evolution."

He sighed.

Then—

Selected the reward.

Instantly—

A cold, chaotic, sinister chakra flooded into his eyes.

It surged upward—

Piercing straight into his mind.

Pain.

Distortion.

Madness.

For a brief moment—

It felt as if he might lose control entirely.

Then—

A second wave followed.

Cool.

Gentle.

It swept through him, stabilizing everything.

The system—

At least—

Didn't let him go insane.

Ren blinked.

His vision sharpened.

The world seemed clearer.

Sharper.

More… dangerous.

Then—

A notification flickered.

New missions.

He paused.

"…That many?"

Curious, he opened the panel.

After becoming Hokage—

An entire set of long-term missions had unlocked.

Categories.

Combat.

Achievement.

Development.

Even…

Lifestyle.

"…Did this thing secretly update itself?"

He muttered.

Then focused.

First—

Combat missions.

Long-Term Mission: Defeat Senju Hashirama head-on

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Long-Term Mission: Defeat Uchiha Madara head-on

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Long-Term Mission: Defeat Ōtsutsuki Kaguya head-on

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

"…What the hell are these?"

Ren stared blankly.

Was this something he could even attempt?

These weren't missions.

They were death sentences.

"I'm not looking at this anymore."

He scrolled past immediately.

Annoyed.

Frustrated.

This felt deliberate.

Like the system was mocking him.

Next—

Achievement missions.

Long-Term Mission: Recognition of the Predecessors

Objective: Earn the sincere approval of all previous Hokage

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Ren's expression stiffened.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

There were only two before him.

Senju Hashirama.

Senju Tobirama.

Hashirama?

That one might be manageable.

Reanimated, fooled with a bit of sincerity—

He might pass.

But Tobirama?

Ren let out a dry laugh.

If Tobirama were revived—

He'd probably try to kill him on the spot.

Ren had spent years pretending to be harmless—

Only to overturn everything and take the Hokage position.

And the man Tobirama personally chose—

Had been crushed.

Approval?

Impossible.

And yet—

A gold reward.

So close.

So unreachable.

He scrolled again.

Development missions.

Long-Term Mission: The Dream of Konoha

Build Konoha into the greatest village, attracting even rogue shinobi from other villages

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Long-Term Mission: Iron Will

Create a modernized army and destroy a shinobi village

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Long-Term Mission: Master of Grain

Long-Term Mission: Entertainment Reigns

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

Long-Term Mission: Financial Leviathan

Control the economic trade of an entire nation

Reward: One Gold-tier draw

The more he read—

The darker his expression became.

"…Are these even humanly possible?"

Every single one—

Ridiculous.

Yet every reward—

Gold.

Temptation.

Blatant.

Deliberate.

"Disgusting…"

He muttered.

This was psychological torture.

Then—

The final category.

Lifestyle.

Ren hesitated.

"…Please let these be normal."

He scrolled.

Long-Term Mission: Lord of Widows

Possess three or more widows

Reward: Ten draws

Long-Term Mission: Brotherhood Above All

Long-Term Mission: Twin Blossoms

"…What the hell?!"

Ren slammed the table.

Hard.

He had officially snapped.

"These aren't missions—these are crimes!"

Yes—

They weren't difficult.

The rewards were even decent.

But completing them?

Would completely destroy any sense of dignity.

Reputation.

Morality.

Everything.

He would become—

A walking disgrace.

A human-shaped disaster.

Ren leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling.

In his previous life—

He had always used incognito mode.

Just in case.

Just in case something happened—

And someone saw his history.

Now?

He really had died.

And somehow—

Ended up here.

"…So this is my reward?"

He laughed bitterly.

The system wasn't guiding him.

It was cornering him.

Forcing a choice.

Power—

Or dignity.

Ren clenched his fist.

Then slammed it against the desk again.

Once.

Twice.

Trying to vent the frustration boiling inside him.

Outside the room—

Uchiha Raizen stood quietly.

The luggage was already prepared.

From inside—

He could hear the repeated thuds.

The anger.

The pressure.

He sighed softly.

Being Hokage…

Wasn't easy.

First day—

And already buried under demands for money.

Best to give him some space.

Raizen turned away silently.

Leaving Ren alone—

With his choices.

And the path ahead—

That seemed to offer no clean answers.
