The Viridian Forest finally fell behind us after nearly four hours of winding trails and roots twisting across the ground.
The moment I stepped past the last line of trees, sunlight washed over me. After more than a week beneath the thick canopy of trees, the open sky felt almost refreshing.
Open fields stretched out ahead, dotted with wildflowers swaying in the breeze. The constant hum of the forest slowly faded behind us, replaced by birds and the soft rustle of grass moving in the wind.
I let out a long breath I hadn't even realized I was holding.
The tension from the forest finally eased from my shoulders as I stepped back onto the main path.
My PokéNav also flickered back to life, its signal steady again after the constant interference under the trees.
I quickly followed its guidance forward without hesitation, and soon, beyond the rolling hills ahead, Pewter City came into view:
Gray stone buildings stood tall against the rocky mountain behind them, their strong shapes blending old stonework with simple modern lines, while glass windows caught the afternoon light and flashed like polished metal, making the whole city feel old yet unbreakable, as if it had been carved straight from the mountain itself.
Even the air changed as we stepped closer into the city.
The sharp, earthy scent of the forest slowly faded, replaced by something warmer, grilled food from street stalls, the sweetness of candy, the smell of fresh bread, and the steady presence of a living city filled with people and movement.
Beneath it all lingered a faint metallic smell, blending with the sounds of busy streets, people talking, and carts rolling by, making the city feel full of life.
I glanced down at my cute little furball as she trotted beside me, her fluffy tail swaying with each step. Her wide eyes darted from one sight to another, taking in everything around her with quiet curiosity…
"We're finally here..." I said with a soft smile.
"Eevee!" she chirped happily, bouncing forward as we stepped into the city together.
As for Charmeleon and Scyther, they remained in their Poké Balls for now. Both needed the rest after everything we'd gone through on the way here.
After all, the journey through the forest hadn't been easy…
Wild Pokémon had attacked us more than once along the way.
One of the worst encounters came when a swarm of Beedrill burst from the trees without warning, their buzzing filling the air as they rushed toward us.
Charmeleon reacted immediately.
"Flamethrower!"
A wave of fire surged forward, forcing the Beedrill to scatter before they could get close. Within moments, the swarm had disappeared back into the forest.
But wild Pokémon weren't the only challenge we faced.
Once we found the main route again, trainer battles became far more common. Most were young trainers eager to test themselves against anyone passing by.
One boy challenged me with a Pidgey and a Rattata. The battle should have been straightforward, but something unexpected happened.
"Scratch!" I called.
Charmeleon lunged forward, but instead of the usual attack, her claws suddenly glowed with a sharper light.
The strike landed harder and cleaner than before.
For a moment, I just stared.
It wasn't Scratch anymore.
She had used Slash.
Even now, remembering the moment brought a grin to my face. Watching one of your Pokémon grow stronger right in the middle of a battle was something else, especially when their sexy, powerful body moves like that…
And most of those battles had been fought by Charmeleon. Since her evolution, I wanted to spend as much time battling alongside her as possible.
As every fight helped me better understand her new strengths, habits, and fighting style. And more than that, I just couldn't stop looking at how confident and… attractive that new form looked in action…
But still, not every battle ended with a victory.
One trainer caught me completely off guard with a well-trained Sandshrew. He used smart switches and careful timing to wear Charmeleon down, taking advantage of her growing fatigue before closing out the match. Another trainer forced a matchup I simply couldn't recover from.
Those losses stung far more than any wild encounter.
Wild battles were usually straightforward. Strength, speed, and instinct often decided the winner.
Trainer battles were different.
They were about timing, prediction, positioning, and understanding both your Pokémon and your opponent's.
Every victory felt earned and every defeat taught me something new.
By the time Pewter City came into view, I felt more experienced than when I'd first entered Viridian Forest.
Then, just as we reached the outskirts of the city, I noticed a battle taking place ahead.
A trainer around my age stood across from a woman with sun-bleached hair and weathered traveling clothes. His Pokémon, a Nidorino, was putting up a fight, but the difference between them was obvious.
Her Meganium dominated the battle from start to finish.
Every movement was calm and controlled. Every attack landed exactly where it needed to. Nidorino barely managed to gain any momentum before Meganium shut it down.
"Body Slam."
Meganium surged forward and slammed its full weight onto Nidorino, driving the smaller Pokémon into the dirt beneath its massive body.
For a few moments, Meganium remained where it was, completely in control of the battle.
When Meganium finally stepped back at its trainer's command, Nidorino couldn't even get back to its feet. It remained sprawled on the ground, exhausted from the battle.
The battle was over.
The woman offered a few words of advice before the trainer thanked her and headed off.
I watched the entire thing quietly.
Especially the way she commanded her thick, curvaceous Meganium felt different from most new trainers I'd faced.
She was definitely not some beginner trainer fresh out on the road. Every order was calm, confident, and perfectly timed.
More importantly, Meganium responded instantly, as if trainer and Pokémon had spent a long time battling together.
Beside me, Scyther, who I had kept out ever since Charmeleon was resting in her pokemon, watched the scene with sharp, intense focus. Her blades twitched slightly, clearly intrigued by the seamless bond between the trainer and her Meganium.
I understood the feeling…
Scyther and I still had a lot to learn about battling together. We'd only recently become partners, and building that kind of understanding wouldn't happen in one night.
A battle against someone like that could teach us far more than another easy victory.
Without thinking twice, I started walking toward her…

Quick update, everyone!
My exams run from June 12th to June 18th, so chapter releases may slow down quite a bit during that period. There might even be no updates at all.
This is also why I started the 500 Power Stone Challenge. We're incredibly close to the goal, and if we hit it, I'll make sure you still get seven consecutive days of chapter updates, even during my exam week.
So now is the perfect time to support the challenge by dropping your 3 daily Power Stones!
Thank you all for your patience, support, and understanding.
