Chapter 39 - The Silent Tower on the Horizon

Aethelgard was no longer the same. Its sky now held a permanent golden hue, a remnant of the final resonance that had sealed the gates of The Lesser Key. In the city center, the ruined Isfellan buildings began to be rebuilt, but in the middle of the palace square stood a monument that never stopped hissing: The Anne Conductor Tower.

The Fate of the Isfellan Ruler

Anne Marie Vaine had no grave. Her physical body had completely decomposed into energy particles that now flowed within the Solomon Protocol circuits. She had become the "City Consciousness"—a digital-magical entity maintaining the stability of Aethelgard's frequencies.

Caine spent his days in the underground control room, no longer as a director, but as a guardian. He was often seen talking to the monitors displaying steady golden wave graphs. "Steam pressure is stable in sector seven, Anne," he would whisper. Occasionally, the screen would flicker twice—a simple signal indicating that Anne's consciousness was still there, watching over them from behind the steel walls and silver cables.

The New Path of Rainnes Joui

Rainnes no longer wore the white robes of the Church. She now led a new division called The Silent Choir, a group of frequency guardians tasked with ensuring the 72 entities remained dormant. Though she knew she was not a Vaine by blood, she kept the name close to her heart.

"You're leaving?" asked Harold, who now served as the Provisional Protector of Oureum.

"Only to the border," Rainnes replied, gazing toward the Isfellan mountains. "There are still remnants of Bael's frequency left there. I must cleanse them before they find a new vessel."

The Forgotten Prince

In a secluded sanatorium on the outskirts of the city, William de Croul sat in a wheelchair, watching the sunset. His mind was fractured, yet he was at peace. Harold visited him often, bringing news of the kingdom's reconstruction. William no longer held ambitions for immortality; he only wanted to hear the sound of the wind, without the whispers of demons in his head.

The Central Church had collapsed in authority. Cardinal Malachi was exiled after being proven to have attempted to assassinate Anne in the midst of the disaster. The people of Aethelgard now placed their faith in the hiss of steam and the golden glow in the sky rather than old, unanswered prayers.
