Chapter 3 - Training 1

| Laboratory |

After spending about 1 week gathering information from Big E.

I decided to start practicing the basic psyker abilities the Emperor had. I started off with practicing his transformation ability first.

Focusing on the memory of how my body used to look. I drew upon the warp and...

My eyes widened as I felt the current state of the warp and it felt disgusting.

In the warp I felt the gazes of multiple daemons and entities looking at me.

Their eyes glaring at me in a mix of horror and hunger.

I ignored them because I knew they wouldn't dare attempt anything. They were all probably just curious about the altercation between me and the four.

I continued to draw on the warp, filtering out all the chaotic emotions imbued in it.

When I finished, what remained was raw warp energy crackling with power.

Using that power I began to change my body at a microscopic level. Slowly my form began to become smaller until I fully resembled my old appearance.

I looked at my reflection from the broken glass in front of where the gestation pods used to be and paused for a moment.

Thinking of who I was just a couple of hours ago. Then I transformed back into the form of Neoth.

My time as Andrew is gone, I have become a part of the Emperor. I am now Neoth Crucivus Aeternus X͞͞L, and I must fight a hopeless war for the salvation of humanity.

I continued my practice, turning into different forms.

After a while I got a hold on transformation, I decided to move on to basic telekinesis.

I focused on the broken glass on the ground, and using the warp I created a thin film of energy around the pieces.

Using the connection between me and the warp energy I used to surround the pieces. I began to lift the pieces off the ground with my mind.

Seeing the broken pieces of glass fly around at my command.

I couldn't help but marvel at the abilities and possibilities I now possess.

During these past 2 years I practiced many other abilities such as regeneration, teleportation, precognition, and warp sight.

It was also during this time I realized I made an immense blunder. One that made me question my own intelligence.

Never once did it occur to me that the laboratory I was in wasn't sound proof. Which made absolutely no sense to me. Meaning that the custodes outside the door probably heard just about everything that went on in here.

My gasps of pain when I repeatedly harmed myself to practice my regeneration.

The curses I said when I got headaches from using my precognition and warp sight.

I couldn't help but wonder what they thought of me now. Is there a way to discreetly find out?

Actually wait, there is a way. I still have to practice mental and soul manipulation. The custodes are loyal to me and I don't believe they will have a problem with me practicing it on them.

Using my warp sight I looked through the door at the closest custodian and I called out.

"Valorian, come to me."

'Boom'

The door was opened and closed extremely fast as the custodian Valorian came in and moved at his fastest speed to reach me, Valorian bowed and answered, "I am here, My Liege."

I looked at him and I felt emotions radiating off of him. The emotions radiated pain, pure existential pain.

It confused me quite a bit because I couldn't fathom why he was feeling pain, not something else.

"Valorian," I said somberly, "There is something I must test that requires me to look into your mind and soul. Are you fine with that?"

Valorian answered immediately, "Of course My Liege. We, your custodians, are always by your side and will gladly do all that you require."

It seemed like he was trying to hint at something else but no matter.

I placed my hand on his shoulder and I channeled warp energy onto him. I focused on trying to find his soul.

After sometime had passed I began to feel it, and focusing more I saw it.

A small golden flame that looked heavily engineered, engineered to be similar to my own soul. Glazing at his soul through the warp, I began to feel a connection between his soul and mine.

It was bound to me in a sense akin to a master and his subject. No it seems deeper than that, more like a father and his son.

It was a truly remarkable sight but I reminded myself of what I had intended to do.

I entered his soul and claimed access to all his memories.

I decided to first see his memories starting from 2 years ago when I first arrived in Warhammer 40k.

What I saw explained everything and made me feel quite bad.

Valorian POV

In my time as a custodian, I trained and fought in countless trials. Trials that would break anyone lesser. But this…

This is something no training, no war, no nothing would have ever prepared me for.

Valorian thought back to his failure 2 years prior, when he wasn't by his liege's side and it resulted in the primarchs being scattered and even worse.

Not being by the Emperor's side to protect him from whatever foul enemy that scarred the Emperor's eye.

And now Valorian recalled everything he has heard since that day.

For a year's as he guarded these doors, he could hear the mutterings of his liege.

"I hate my life."

"Ow."

"I am useless."

"The galaxy is truly cruel."

As much as Valorian wanted to immediately enter and comfort his liege or send a request to Valdor and Malcador to please speak with the Emperor.

To let him know that he not useless, not useless at all. That it was him, Valorian and the custodes who were useless.

But we was not permitted to move, his last order was to stand guard and let none interrupt until told otherwise by the Emperor.

Little did he know that in the following year it would get worse.

Valorian while standing guard outside heard, "Ermmmnnnngghhhhh." He gripped his guardian spear tighter as he began to tremble in horror and helplessness.

His liege was groaning in pain, yet he could do nothing. Never had Valorian felt so pathetic.

In Valorian's view, The Emperor was currently shaken from losing his sons, the primarchs. Who were taken by a great enemy and scattered across the galaxy.

The same great enemy had even fought the Emperor and wounded him.

Now the Emperor is suffering in an unknown amount of pain from trying to complete his plans.

Valorian continued to tremble.

In his heart he prayed that the Emperor would give him a command, one that allows him to move. Then he thought to himself, 'Perhaps this is his punishment to me, to us, for our failures.'

Time continued to pass as he kept hearing more groans of pain, curses of anger, and felt psychic disturbances caused by warp manipulation.

Finally the command he wished for came, as he heard, "Valorian, come to me."

Immediately at the fastest speed Valorian could move, he answered his liege's call.

While on his way in his heart froze in cold anguish as he took in the current state of the laboratory. There were scattered objects everywhere.

He could feel multiple abnormalities of the warp. But most of all, he saw golden red blood splattered on the ground.

That blood could only belong to one person. 'Just what has been happening in here,' he thought but Valorian snapped himself out of it once he heard the Emperor Speak. The Emperor asked if he was fine with having his mind and soul looked into.

Valorian answered immediately but also added another sentence hoping the Emperor would see what he was hinting at. Hoping that the Emperor would share his burden and not bare it alone.

___

Neoth blinked as he realized what he put this poor custodian through. He then spoke to Valorian and said, "I appreciate your worry and I apologize for causing it."

Perhaps in the future I will be able to share my burden but not now."

Neoth felt the emotions of relief and slight panic radiate from Valorian.

"Return to your post," Neoth made a small smile, "You are no failure, you always have and always will serve me well. I am proud of you and all of my custodes."

Valorian bowed in thanks to his liege, and exited the laboratory with emotions of pure happiness radiating from him.

As I stood in the now empty laboratory, I reflected on this interaction and the rest of the memories I had seen from Valorian.

I felt a emotion of responsibility form in me as I recalled that pure emotion of happiness that I had felt from him. A son happy from the approval given to him by his father.

I drew upon the warp again to continue my training before the commencement of the Great Crusade.

-To Be Continued...

(A/N: Did you all feel like I give enough description on his use of the warp?

Should I try to be more detailed with character interactions or surroundings?

If you ever see a new chapter wait like 15mins before reading because I'll probably be making a bunch of minor edits. Once I get to see how it looks for readers.)
