"He's still not dead!!"
Arata spun around quickly. But the baseball bat was already right in front of his face.
BANG!!!
Arata hurriedly turned intangible. The bat passed right through his phantom image and smashed into the sink behind him. Water sprayed everywhere as pieces of the shattered stone sink flew across the room.
Smack!!
Arata kicked Baseball Guy away. With a backhand motion, he summoned a massive swarm of rats that rushed forward frantically.
"Another ability. Looks like you've absorbed quite a few devils. I'm getting more and more interested in your corpse," Baseball Guy said. Facing the dense, dark tide of rats, he swung his bat fiercely at the empty air.
Whoosh~~
A powerful gale swept through, instantly clearing the entire swarm of rats from the floor.
"Likewise, I'm quite interested in your corpse too."
Bzzzzzz!!
A massive swarm of mosquitoes and flies launched a combined attack. Baseball Guy was immediately enveloped in a spherical wind barrier. Any mosquito or fly that touched the barrier instantly plummeted to the ground. The clean floor was soon carpeted with the corpses of insects.
"Where'd he go?" Having dealt with the annoying bugs, Baseball Guy saw that Arata was no longer in his original spot. He immediately mocked, "Coward. Running away already?"
"Who are you looking for?"
At that moment, an invisible claw blade plunged straight into Baseball Guy's chest.
This time, Arata didn't do anything else. He stood in place, staring dead-fixed at Baseball Guy's corpse.
After a certain amount of time passed, the corpse on the ground suddenly vanished.
What confused Arata at this moment wasn't Baseball Guy's strength, but his method of resurrection. And how he had managed to escape the Third-Level Dream Realm earlier.
After killing Baseball Guy, he didn't resurrect immediately. He only revived after a set period of time. He didn't rely on other people, nor did he need to consume blood. He resurrected entirely on his own. This seemed even more broken than Arata's own resurrection.
In order to find a weakness, Arata naturally wouldn't let a single detail slip by.
Whoosh~~
The sound of wind echoed from outside again. Baseball Guy swung his bat and charged back in.
This time, Arata didn't dodge or evade, taking a direct hit to the head from the bat. His head burst open like a watermelon.
"THIS—IS—WHAT—HAPPENS—when you bully my sister!" Baseball Guy roared furiously as he repeatedly bashed Arata's corpse.
But he quickly noticed something wrong with his own body. His eyelids were slowly drooping. An inescapable wave of drowsiness swept over him.
Thud!!
In the next second, the baseball bat hit the floor, and the man followed.
When he woke up, his body was strapped to an electric chair.
Arata stood in the interrogation room of the Second-Level Dream Realm and asked, "What devils have you contracted with? Tell me the abilities and the costs."
"The Wind Devil. Greatly increases speed and allows the use of wind abilities. The cost was severing all ties with my family."
"And the other one."
"The other one is..."
He only managed to say a few words before his body vanished.
This left Arata completely dumbfounded. He was currently inside the Second-Level Dream Realm, yet Baseball Guy was somehow able to ignore the spatial constraints and simply vanish!
But there was no time to dwell on it. Arata jumped out of the Second-Level Dream Realm as well.
Baseball Guy was already standing outside, waiting. "What did you just do to me? Why am I missing a chunk of my memory?"
"No comment. But our fight is still going." Arata didn't give Baseball Guy a chance to keep asking questions. He transformed into Freddy Krueger and charged at him again.
This time, Arata's advantage was evident, beating Baseball Guy back again and again. However, he didn't kill him; instead, he inflicted countless wounds all over Baseball Guy's body.
Baseball Guy also stopped trying to land killing blows. Instead, he shattered one of Arata's arms, one of his legs, and four of his ribs.
BOOM!!!
Arata blasted Baseball Guy back with a sonic wave. With broken limbs, his mobility was severely compromised. He chose to detonate a swarm of flies to blow himself up.
He might as well go for another Second-Level Dream Realm interrogation while he was at it.
This time, Arata cut straight to the chase. "Spit it out. Besides the Wind Devil, what is the other devil you contracted with? And what is its ability?"
But after asking, Baseball Guy didn't say a word.
"Speak!!" Arata intensified his mental control.
"Trag..."
Swish!!!
The man only managed to say a single syllable before vanishing again.
Arata had no choice but to exit the dream as well.
He resurrected by flying out of another woman's dream. He couldn't resurrect from the same person's dream consecutively. Furthermore, it would place the person who served as his resurrection point into a dreamless state for about a week. He could only use them again after that week had passed.
"It seems neither of us can die," Baseball Guy said, watching Arata return in perfect condition. He had somehow found another can of cola and was drinking it.
"You didn't die, and the injuries on your body completely healed. Your clothes... even your clothes recovered."
Every time Arata resurrected, his clothes were brought out from the dream realm. But he could only bring out clothes. He couldn't bring out anything that would impact the real world, and bringing out items consumed a massive amount of mental energy. The weaker his mental energy, the fewer dream-related abilities he could use.
"How about this? Hand over the Gluttony Devil's corpse, and I'll let bygones be bygones and give you another $100 million."
"The Gluttony Devil is worth way more than $100 million."
"Then how much do you want?"
"Ten billion dollars," Arata smiled.
"Fine, ten billion it is."
"Uh..." Arata hadn't expected Baseball Guy to agree so readily.
But in the dream, he had confessed that the cost for contracting the Wind Devil was severing ties with the Moore Family. Even though the price wasn't physical, it was an incredibly steep cost. The Moore Family was essentially a "get-out-of-jail-free" card. No matter what someone did anywhere in the world, as long as the Moore Family intervened, it could be smoothed over.
Baseball Guy had thrown away his immunity card, and with it, his access to their massive financial network. Let alone $100 million, he probably couldn't even scrounge up $50 million. Even if he could, it would likely be his entire net worth.
"Cash on delivery."
"I'm very poor right now. My account balance is only $80 million. But I can pay you back the ten billion slowly."
"You're already dreaming in broad daylight? Then I'll just give you the Gluttony Devil's thumb for now."
"Looks like negotiations have broken down."
"What are we waiting for then? Let's fight." Arata instantly turned invisible.
This time, he checked the time on his phone first before launching his attack.
Baseball Guy rapidly gathered wind around himself, forming a localized tornado. He used the air currents to sense Arata's invisible movements.
Swish!!
He pinpointed a direction and swung his bat decisively.
Clang!!!
Clang!!!
Their weapons clashed once again.
BANG!!!
Baseball Guy spun and retaliated, sending Arata flying and breaking his invisibility. Baseball Guy's own body was left covered in cuts and bruises.
"You've started testing my abilities?" Baseball Guy laughed.
"That's right. Haven't you also figured out the rule that you can cripple me, but you can't kill me?"
"I specifically asked the Family Council about the Dream Devil. Even though you can resurrect infinitely, you lose mental energy every time you do. You've already lost the ability to use the power you used on me at the beginning (Third-Level Dream Realm). And if you keep dying, you won't even be able to use your Second-Level Dream Realm anymore."
"It seems you can't use yours indefinitely either, can you?"
"But my devil is much stronger than yours."
"Is that so? Then let's see whose numbers run out first. After all, I have more than one devil... and I'm not alone."
Baseball Guy hadn't noticed the mirror behind him.
VROOOOM!!!
The roar of a chainsaw suddenly erupted from behind him.
Following that, three chainsaws simultaneously pierced through Baseball Guy's body, hoisting him high into the air and shredding him apart.
"Master!"
"Good job. Now the three of us are going to keep killing him."
Arata checked the time on his phone again.
A while later, a sudden gale swept through the screening room, blasting the three of them against the wall.
When Baseball Guy reappeared, his bat swung heavily into Denji's head. Denji died on the spot.
But Quanxi transformed into the Arrow Devil, unleashing a barrage of arrows. Baseball Guy swung his bat, creating several wind walls that deflected all the incoming projectiles.
Behind him, Arata fed Denji some blood.
Once Denji revived, the three of them launched a synchronized assault.
Although Arata could eventually out-attrition Baseball Guy, it would simply take too long. So, he opted for a three-on-one strategy to speed up the process.
As Baseball Guy was repeatedly killed, the frequency of his resurrections began to accelerate.
