"Aki, scoot over a bit."
"What for!!"
"This bed is too big for you to sleep in alone, I'm gonna lie down and rest."
"Arata, don't push your luck," Aki Hayakawa roared. Denji and Power had eaten his lunch, Arata had eaten his fruit, and now he might not even be able to keep his only hospital bed.
"Move over, sitting too long gives you hemorrhoids, I need to lie down." Arata didn't care whether Aki agreed or not, lying straight down on the other side of the bed. Aki's shoulder was injured, so he couldn't push Arata off. He could only grit his teeth and shift his body over.
Since he hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch, Aki felt exhausted. He slowly closed his eyes, planning to sleep until dinner. But just then, the sounds of Denji and Power fighting echoed from the hallway. The two seemed to be fighting over something.
"Give it back!!!" Denji's voice echoed down the entire corridor. It was immediately followed by a flurry of hurried footsteps reaching the hospital room door.
Whoosh!!
The door was violently pulled open. Power rushed in looking panicked and quickly locked the door behind her. She pressed her back against the door, panting heavily.
Bang!!
A heavy impact hit the door from the outside. Denji's fists pounded relentlessly on the hospital room door. "Dammit, give me my drink back."
"Don't be stingy, the great me didn't get full at lunch, so I need an extra drink. The great me will pay you back when I get my salary."
"Open the door!!"
"Bang!!" Seeing his fists weren't working, Denji just started kicking.
The door echoed with loud, heavy thuds from his kicks. This instantly made Aki, who had just closed his eyes to sleep, snap them wide open. His eyes were completely bloodshot as he yelled, "Keep it down!!!"
That shout actually worked, causing Denji to halt his assault outside.
"Hey, Aki needs to rest, you guys shouldn't be fighting in the hospital room," Arata said while rummaging through the fruit basket. He pulled out another apple and continued peeling it.
"Denji's the one making a fuss, I just wanted to drink one of his drinks." Power raised the bottle in her hand and started chugging it down.
But right then, the roar of a chainsaw suddenly erupted from outside.
Bang!!
An even more massive force kicked the door right off its hinges, sending Power flying along with it. The flying door just so happened to land right where the bed was. Arata had quick reflexes and scrambled out of bed, dodging the impact.
Aki, on the other hand, opened his eyes just in time to see a door hurtling right at his face. Before he could react, his body was completely crushed underneath it.
"Aki, you alright?" Arata hurriedly lifted the door off Aki's body. Aki's face was completely red from the impact, and a massive wave of fury was brewing in his gut.
"Give me back my drink." Denji hadn't noticed that Aki was furious at all. He was still looking around the room for Power.
By now, Power had already jumped out the window.
"Master, did you see Power?"
"She jumped out the window just now."
"Dammit, I bought her a drink, and she actually snatched mine too."
"One drink isn't worth transforming over. Hurry up and turn back to normal, it'll be bad if someone else sees you."
"Just lost my temper for a second." The next moment, Denji immediately deactivated his Chainsaw Man form. "Master, is Aki okay? I saw his face get pretty intimate with that door just now."
"He should be... fine." Arata glanced at Aki.
But the fury in Aki's chest had already reached his throat. He immediately roared, "Both of you... get the hell out of here!!!!"
Driven out by his continuous furious shouts, the two of them were kicked out of the hospital room. As they stepped out, they ran right into the female nurse who had brought the food earlier.
"Who's making all this racket in the hospital room? Don't you know hospitals need to be quiet?" the nurse asked angrily.
"Aki lost control of his emotions a bit and started yelling. You better go in and check on him, we'll be leaving now."
Dumping the blame entirely on him, the two quickly fled the scene. The nurse walked into the room with a dark expression, immediately reprimanding him, "Aki Hayakawa, this is a hospital, could you please stop yelling? If you don't want to stay in a hospital room, I can have someone send you home."
"I... it wasn't me."
"Not you? I heard it clear as day when I walked up, it was your voice. And you even chased away your coworkers who kindly came to take care of you."
"Kindly take care of me?" Aki found that incredibly hard to believe. If the nurse had stayed in the room the whole time, she absolutely wouldn't be saying that.
"You sound like you've got plenty of energy, not like an injured patient at all. So we won't be providing dinner for you tonight. Go out and eat on your own." Saying that, the nurse turned and left the room.
Leaving Aki sitting alone in his hospital bed, completely a mess. He hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch, and now he didn't even get dinner. The trio's actions made Aki grit his teeth in pure hatred.
Meanwhile, Arata and Denji, having left the hospital, saw Power squatting on the ground down the street.
"Meow, meow..." A small kitten was constantly circling around Power's feet. Power looked incredibly depressed.
"What's wrong, Power? You look so sad even while petting a cat."
"Power, give me my drink back."
"Here." Power stood up and tossed the bottle to Denji.
"It's empty!!!"
"Yeah, the great me already drank it all."
"Denji, stop whining. Your master will buy you another one in a bit."
"Master really is the best to me," Denji laughed.
"I want one too." Power raised her hand.
"Everyone gets one. There's a vending machine right across the street, let's go buy some."
Arata led the two across the street. After sliding a bill into the machine... Clunk!! Three different flavored drinks dropped out.
Power immediately grabbed a can and started chugging it down. By the time the other two just got theirs in hand, Power had already finished hers. Her eyes were locked in a dead stare on the drinks in their hands.
"Don't even think about it. You're absolutely not getting another sip."
Last time Power asked for "just one sip," Denji agreed without a second thought, originally hoping to experience an indirect kiss. In the end, he was left with absolutely nothing.
"Still haven't drank enough? I remember you eating quite a bit at lunch, and you drank two sodas too."
"I don't know what's going on, but the great me just feels constantly hungry." Power rubbed her stomach, which very cooperatively let out a loud rumble. It sounded like Power's hunger was far from baseless.
"There's a bakery right next door, let's go buy you some bread to eat."
"Thank you, the great me likes you the best." Power danced around in joy.
Once inside the bakery, Denji, having finished his drink, was already full. Power, on the other hand, was looking back and forth, seemingly wanting a bite of everything.
"Boss, pack these two up for me."
"You got it." The owner enthusiastically came over to the counter.
"Boss, serve the great me your most filling bread! Someone else is paying." Power bounded over to the counter, but her appearance gave the owner a massive scare.
"D-Devil!!"
"Don't be afraid, boss. We're Public Safety Devil Hunters, and she's a member of our team."
"She's a Public Safety Devil Hunter too?"
"That's right. Otherwise she wouldn't be eating bread, she'd be eating you."
"Stop dawdling, hurry up and serve the great me my bread," Power roared.
The owner trembled and immediately offered up his largest loaves of bread. In the end, he was too scared to even ask for money.
Walking out of the bakery, Power continuously tore into the bread, looking like she was thoroughly enjoying it. Right now, she looked more like a refugee who had been starving for days.
"Master, where to next? Back to headquarters?"
"We're not going back. Since Aki isn't around to hover over us, why don't we go save Power's cat?"
"Power's cat?"
