Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7: First Clash Enemy Camp

CHAPTER 7: First Clash Enemy Camp

Flames rose into the night like a procession of silent warnings.

Dozens of torches lit the advancing column, their glow revealing armored figures moving in disciplined formation across the dark plains.

At the center rode a man clad in black steel armor.

Baron Kael.

His expression was cold.

Unmoved.

"They resisted," one of the soldiers reported.

Kael did not react.

"They killed the scouting unit."

That made him pause.

"Peasants?" he asked.

"Yes, my lord."

Silence followed.

"That is not possible," another officer muttered.

Kael raised a hand slightly.

The murmurs stopped.

"Describe what you saw," he said.

The soldier hesitated.

"There was… someone leading them."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Someone?"

"Yes. Not a soldier. Not trained. But…"

"But?"

"…they followed him."

A faint smile touched Kael's lips.

"Interesting."

Before anyone could speak further—

A voice echoed from the darkness behind them.

"You should turn back."

Every soldier froze.

Kael turned slowly.

A figure stood at the edge of the torchlight.

Cloaked.

Unfamiliar.

"No one was supposed to be here," an officer whispered.

The figure stepped forward.

"You are walking toward something you do not understand."

Kael studied him.

"And you do?"

The figure chuckled softly.

"I understand enough to know this ends badly for you."

The air grew tense.

"Do you know who I am?" Kael asked.

"Yes."

"Then you understand what happens when someone stands in my way."

The figure tilted his head slightly.

"I am not standing in your way."

A pause.

"I am warning you."

Kael's gaze sharpened.

"About what?"

The figure's voice lowered.

"About him."

Silence.

Kael's hand tightened slightly on his reins.

"…a peasant leader?"

The figure smiled beneath his hood.

"If that is what you think he is, then continue."

A long pause followed.

Then the figure stepped back into the darkness.

And vanished.

No sound.

No trace.

The soldiers shifted uneasily.

"…my lord," one officer said, "should we reconsider?"

Kael turned forward again.

"No."

His voice was absolute.

"We advance."

But his eyes…

Held something new.

Curiosity.

The Village

The ground trembled.

Not violently.

But steadily.

Ethan stood at the center of the village.

His hand still pressed against the earth.

He could feel it.

The core.

Weak.

Fading.

Waiting.

"Do it," Lumina whispered.

Ethan closed his eyes.

This is not power.

This is responsibility.

Energy gathered within him.

Not explosive.

Not chaotic.

Controlled.

Like a current flowing through unseen pathways.

He focused.

Connected.

Awaken.

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

The ground pulsed.

Light burst beneath the soil, spreading like veins of gold through the earth.

The entire village froze.

"What is happening?"

"The ground…"

"It is glowing!"

Ethan's eyes snapped open.

The system appeared.

System Notification

Village Core Awakening Initiated

Energy surged upward.

A pillar of light erupted from the center of the village, piercing the sky.

Wind roared outward.

Villagers were forced to shield their eyes.

Lumina laughed.

"It worked!"

Ethan did not respond.

He could feel it.

The connection.

The land.

The people.

Everything.

It all flowed through him.

And then—

Pain.

Sharp.

Sudden.

Ethan dropped to one knee.

"Ethan!"

Lumina rushed to him.

The system flickered violently.

Warning

Core Stability Critical

Insufficient Energy Supply

Ethan clenched his teeth.

Not enough.

It is not enough.

The light began to flicker.

Dim.

Unstable.

"No," Lumina said.

The ground trembled harder.

Cracks formed.

The awakening was failing.

Enemy Advance

"They see it."

Kael stared at the pillar of light rising from the village.

"…what is that?"

No one answered.

Even the soldiers felt it.

Pressure.

Heavy.

Unnatural.

Kael's expression darkened.

"So… it is not just a peasant."

He raised his hand.

"Prepare for engagement."

Weapons were drawn.

The army accelerated.

The Village

Ethan's breathing grew heavier.

The connection strained.

The core was slipping.

"I cannot hold it," he said.

Lumina's expression hardened.

"Then do not hold it."

Ethan looked at her.

"What?"

"Let them help you."

He froze.

"The village," she said. "They are part of this too."

Ethan's eyes widened slightly.

They are not just people I protect.

They are part of the system.

He forced himself to stand.

"Everyone," he called out.

His voice carried.

Strong.

"Place your hands on the ground."

Confusion spread.

"What?"

"Trust me."

There was hesitation.

Then—

Arin stepped forward first.

He knelt.

Placed his hand on the earth.

"I trust him."

One by one—

Others followed.

Dozens.

Then all.

Ethan closed his eyes again.

Connect.

This time—

The response was different.

Warm.

Alive.

Energy flowed.

Not from him.

From them.

Into the core.

The light surged again.

Stronger.

Brighter.

The cracks stopped spreading.

The trembling stabilized.

Lumina smiled widely.

"It is working!"

Ethan could feel it.

Not just power.

Unity.

And then—

The system changed.

System Notification

Village Core Fully Awakened

New Ability Unlocked: Territory Field

New Ability Unlocked: Shared Energy Network

Ethan's eyes opened.

They glowed faintly.

Different.

Deeper.

First Clash

The enemy arrived.

The ground shook under the weight of their charge.

Dozens of soldiers surged forward, weapons raised, voices roaring.

"Attack!"

Ethan stepped forward.

The moment had come.

He raised his hand.

The air shifted.

Energy gathered.

The ground beneath the enemy forces suddenly rose.

Walls of earth erupted upward, splitting their formation.

"What is this?"

"Magic?"

Chaos spread instantly.

Ethan moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

He closed the distance in a breath.

A soldier swung his blade.

Ethan stepped aside.

Controlled.

Precise.

He struck.

Not wildly.

Directly.

The soldier fell.

Another attacked.

Ethan turned.

Energy flowed through his arm.

His strike carried weight.

More than strength.

Force.

The impact sent the soldier crashing backward.

Lumina hovered above, laughing.

"Now this is interesting!"

The battlefield erupted.

Villagers joined the fight.

Clumsy.

Untrained.

But determined.

Arin thrust his broken spear.

It struck.

Barely.

But it was enough.

"I did it!" he shouted.

Then nearly fell when another soldier approached.

Ethan appeared.

Blocked the attack.

"Focus," he said calmly.

Arin nodded quickly.

"Yes!"

Enemy Perspective

Kael watched.

Silent.

Observing.

"…this is not normal."

His officers could not respond.

The battlefield was shifting.

Not in their favor.

"…so this is the one."

His gaze locked onto Ethan.

A faint smile appeared.

"Interesting."

He dismounted.

Drew his blade.

"Clear a path."

Battlefield Shift

Ethan felt it.

A presence.

Different.

Stronger.

He turned.

Kael walked forward.

Calm.

Unhurried.

The air around him felt heavy.

"Who are you?" Kael asked.

Ethan did not answer.

Instead, he stepped forward.

"I am the one who will stop you."

Silence.

Then—

Kael smiled.

"Good."

The ground beneath them cracked.

Energy surged.

The real battle was about to begin.

Final Twist

Far away.

Hidden in darkness.

A pair of eyes watched the battlefield.

Ancient.

Unreadable.

"…it has awakened."

A second voice responded.

"Earlier than expected."

Silence.

"…should we intervene?"

A pause.

"No."

The first voice turned away.

"Let it grow."

Back on the battlefield—

Ethan and Kael stood face to face.

Power gathering.

Clashing.

Unseen forces colliding before the first strike.

The war had only just begun.
