Chapter 19:
Seeing Alex Chen and Black Widow in front of him, Banner was only slightly surprised at first, then quickly calmed down.
"How long have you been following me?" Dr. Banner asked calmly.
"There should be your people all around this room right now, but I hope you don't act rashly. I don't know when the guy inside me will come out either."
Hearing this, Alex Chen silently activated "Quicksilver's Super Speed" and "Wolverine's Self-Healing" on himself.
Alex Chen really didn't want to be beaten into a pulp by the guy in front of him later.
It was no wonder Alex Chen was making a fuss. Even the battle-hardened Black Widow beside him secretly raised her guard after hearing Banner's words.
After all, in Alex Chen's knowledge, apart from a few "aliens" like Thor, there probably wasn't anyone on Earth yet who could withstand Bruce Banner's punches.
"Calm down. We just came to talk with you. I believe you can definitely control the guy inside you. After all, you haven't let that guy appear again in the past six months."
Black Widow said carefully, afraid that one wrong word from her would cause the guy inside the other party to erupt.
"Then it depends on what exactly you came here for."
Dr. Banner asked half-jokingly.
"Are you here to capture me again and lock me in an iron cage? Or to make me endure endless research? Or to dismember me?"
"For all of this, I can only answer you… No! The guy comes looking for me on his own. I hide in the back trembling. I just want to stay here peacefully as an ordinary person."
Seeing the veins bulging on Dr. Banner's forehead, Alex Chen's heart trembled. At such a close distance, he wasn't sure he could be as fully prepared as he was during the campus incident last time.
Moreover, if he wasn't careful, he might expose his true abilities and be completely targeted by S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Everyone, fall back." Black Widow picked up the walkie-talkie at her waist and quietly ordered the soldiers outside.
The thirty soldiers who had been continuously surrounding the room quickly retreated.
After giving the order, Black Widow sat back down in her chair and showed no intention of leaving.
Dr. Banner glanced at Black Widow, who was still sitting in the same posture, and didn't make any move either.
Black Widow's action made Dr. Banner a little confused. What was she doing?
"No matter what, our goals are the same. Since that's the case, I hope we can cooperate. After all, we are all people of Earth. Why can't we work together to deal with that thing?"
Black Widow said with a smile. She didn't directly tell Dr. Banner the ultimate purpose of her trip.
Black Widow's words stunned Dr. Banner.
This was the first time Black Widow had taken the initiative to negotiate conditions with him.
"We are all people of Earth. You are a person of Earth. Why can't you help me instead of helping Ross and his people to deal with me?"
Black Widow shook her head and said: "No, you're wrong. I am not one of Ross's people. I come from S.H.I.E.L.D., and the reason I came to find you this time is not to capture you, but to invite you to join our team to deal with a threat from outer space. I hope you can consider it."
"I don't need any team, because in my eyes, you are all enemies."
Hearing Banner's words, Black Widow was stunned.
"Then what exactly do you want? We can satisfy you, but you must join us."
Hearing this, Dr. Banner frowned. He was a scientist after all. How could he possibly join some organization? Although he really wanted to know what the aliens Black Widow mentioned were like, he also knew that now was not the time to ask about these things.
"Do you want to know what's going on in outer space? I can tell you. As a scientist, I think you will definitely be interested in these things. Have you heard of the Cosmic Cube?"
Dr. Banner naturally didn't know about the Cosmic Cube, and he had never heard of the existence of anything beyond Earth.
"Aren't those just myths made up by others?"
Dr. Banner asked.
"Yes, and no."
Hearing this, Dr. Banner became even more confused. What did that mean?
As long as you agree to join us, I will tell you everything in detail.
On the other side, in an underground training hall in a remote area, a strong figure was madly punching the sandbag in front of him. Sweat poured down like it was free.
"You won't be lonely in there, Rogers."
"Oh, it's hard to believe this person is still alive."
Recalling the scenes in his mind, Rogers felt as if his head was about to explode from all these suddenly added memories.
"Bang…"
The perfectly good sandbag in front of him was punched through by Rogers in one blow.
Just as Rogers was about to hang up a new sandbag and continue training, a familiar voice sounded behind him.
"Can't sleep?"
Nick Fury walked out from the shadows.
"I've already slept for seventy years in one go. I don't want to sleep anymore. Is there a mission for me, Director?"
Seeing Nick Fury arrive, Rogers didn't plan to continue training. He simply walked to the side and silently unwrapped the bandages on his hands.
"Are you asking me to integrate into the new world?"
Seeing Rogers being so direct, Nick Fury didn't plan to beat around the bush either and went straight to the point:
"No. It's to let you save it. There is a very important mission right now that requires your help. This is what Howard Stark accidentally salvaged from the sea while searching for you."
As he spoke, Nick Fury handed a file to Rogers.
"Is this Hydra's secret weapon?"
"It was taken away by a man named Loki. From what we understand, he doesn't seem to be a local."
"And the most important thing is that it matches what I expected. This may be the key to us discovering eternal energy. And this is exactly what this world needs most right now."
Seeing that Rogers' face showed no ripples after hearing all this, Nick Fury knew that for this man who had slept for seventy years, it was already very difficult for anything in this world to easily shake his heart.
"If you are willing to join us, I will arrange for someone to help you integrate into this new world as soon as possible. The times are developing very fast now, and many things are different from before. The same mission file will appear on the table in your house. If you are interested, call me."
Without waiting for Nick Fury to say anything more, Rogers picked up a sandbag from the ground and walked out.
Watching Rogers' departing back, Nick Fury couldn't help but ask:
"Do you have any good suggestions for retrieving the Cube?"
Rogers stopped, turned his head, and said:
"After you find the Cube, throw it into the sea."
Hearing this, Nick Fury simply shrugged noncommittally.
