Chapter 7:
For a very long time, the front-page headlines of all major newspapers in New York were about the two explosions.
Due to the severity of the situation, the Mayor of New York had no choice but to seek help from the famous S.H.I.E.L.D.
Soon, S.H.I.E.L.D. dispatched Hawkeye and Black Widow to investigate the two incidents.
Watching the New York Mayor giving an impassioned speech on television, Alex Chen knew that if he didn't quickly find out who was behind this, New York would soon become a complete paradise for crime.
In order to let Wanda safely and happily finish her four years of university life, Alex Chen decided to investigate the matter himself.
For the next few days, Alex Chen stayed at home without taking a single step away. Even when throwing out the trash, he refused to let Wanda go downstairs alone.
"It's been several days already. The government is urgently investigating this matter. I believe the real culprit behind the scenes will be caught soon. You don't need to be so nervous all the time."
Seeing Alex Chen restless these past few days, Wanda couldn't help but worry about his health.
"No. Until this matter is truly settled, you cannot go out alone."
Seeing that Wanda still wanted to say something, Alex Chen quickly signaled her to stop.
"If it really comes to it, I'll go out tonight to check the situation outside."
"No! It's dangerous for me to go out, but isn't it dangerous for you too?"
Looking at Wanda's serious expression, Alex Chen patted her shoulder and said:
"Silly girl, we're different. I'm very powerful. Even the Hulk couldn't hurt me, let alone ordinary people."
"Don't worry, I'll be careful. I'm someone who's very afraid of dying. If I encounter danger, I'll run away immediately."
"Fine then. I'll wait for you to come back."
Seeing that she couldn't convince Alex Chen, Wanda had no choice but to give up.
After dinner, Alex Chen went out to investigate the explosion case.
It was only just past seven o'clock, yet the streets were already empty. The shops that used to be full of lights and goods were now all closed.
It seemed this attack had really cast a heavy shadow over people's hearts.
After walking alone for some time, Alex Chen suddenly heard the sounds of fighting from a street in the distance.
He quietly ran to the corner and poked half his head out.
In a dark corner, there were two thugs.
One tall, skinny man with yellow hair was being beaten by a muscular brute.
"Bang bang bang!"
"Damn it, hand it over! Do you want to die? How dare you steal from Kingpin!"
"I didn't! I really didn't! You've got the wrong person, please let me go!"
"Looks like you won't shed tears until you see the coffin."
Then came another round of punches and kicks.
Hiding in the shadows and silently watching everything, Alex Chen immediately changed into his Batman suit.
With a flash, he appeared behind the man who was attacking, grabbed the fist that was about to land, and stopped it.
"Hey, kid, who the hell are you? I warn you not to meddle in other people's business, or you'll bring trouble upon yourself."
Facing the brute's threat, Alex Chen ignored him completely.
Seeing Alex Chen's reaction, the brute violently broke free and swung a punch at him.
But the next second, the brute's body flew straight out as if gravity no longer affected him.
After landing, the brute fainted on the spot.
"Brainless musclehead."
After dealing with the brute, Alex Chen turned his attention to the yellow-haired man lying on the ground, barely breathing.
He crouched down and asked:
"Do you know Kingpin?"
"Don't hit me! I really didn't steal anything from Kingpin! Please don't hit me!"
The yellow-haired man saw how the brute had been completely powerless in front of Alex Chen, like a child. He thought Alex Chen was an even more vicious person.
For a moment, he assumed Alex Chen had also come because of the bounty on him.
"You don't need to be so scared. I'm not one of Kingpin's people. Just answer my questions properly."
Seeing the yellow-haired man's guarded look, Alex Chen patiently explained.
"Really? You're really just asking questions?"
Alex Chen nodded to reassure him.
Only after receiving Alex Chen's confirmation did the yellow-haired man relax a little.
"What did that guy say you stole from Kingpin?"
As soon as he heard Alex Chen asking about the same thing, the yellow-haired man immediately struggled to escape.
Alex Chen hadn't expected such a strong reaction from the man.
He quickly reached out and pressed the yellow-haired man back down.
"I already told you, I really didn't steal anything! Please believe me, I was framed!"
Seeing that he couldn't run away, the yellow-haired man could only beg Alex Chen to let him go.
"Alright, alright, I believe you. But please believe me too — I'm really not one of Kingpin's men."
Seeing the yellow-haired man's emotions gradually calm down, Alex Chen continued asking:
"Why was that guy torturing you just now?"
Still clearly traumatized by what had happened, the yellow-haired man hesitated for a long time before finally explaining everything.
It turned out that this yellow-haired man was the driver of the truck full of drugs. After Alex Chen destroyed all the drugs, the furious Kingpin had dragged the driver back.
Because the driver's mind had been controlled by Alex Chen at the time, he had no memory of what he had done.
Unable to get any useful information from the yellow-haired man, Kingpin began subjecting him to all kinds of inhuman torture.
After suffering several days and nights of torture, the yellow-haired man finally escaped while the guards were changing shifts.
When Kingpin returned and found the man missing, he issued a huge bounty.
All the gangsters in New York swarmed out to claim the massive reward.
The brute from earlier had come for that bounty.
After quietly listening to the yellow-haired man's story, Alex Chen felt both amused and helpless.
Serves you right. Who told you to help Kingpin do such wicked things?
But Alex Chen obviously couldn't tell the yellow-haired man that he was the one who had hijacked the entire truck of white bricks.
"Then do you know where Kingpin's lair is?"
"Will telling you this benefit me in any way?"
Alex Chen felt sad for the man, seeing that he was still so calculating even when his life was at stake.
He took out a few hundred-dollar bills from his pocket and stuffed them into the yellow-haired man's arms. Only then did the man speak.
Afterward, the yellow-haired man staggered out of the street under Alex Chen's watchful gaze.
"You're just letting him go like that?"
Just as Alex Chen was deep in thought, a magnetic voice sounded behind him.
"Who's there!"
Two figures walked out from the darkness.
When Alex Chen clearly saw who they were, he couldn't help but blurt out:
"Woc! Hawkeye? Black Widow!"
