Chapter 9 - Obtaining the Lasgun STC

Since the chessboard now occupied a large portion of his living room, Richard had to go to the kitchen to make a cup of tea. The original tea table had been moved elsewhere. Now, this massive chessboard served as both his tea table and his only window into the world of Warhammer.

Even though there was still an hour before the next stage of deployment, Richard couldn't help but worry about the upcoming battle when the enemy warlord-class Titan appeared on the map. Currently, the strength of his defenders was far too weak against a Titan. Although they could put up some resistance using fixed defensive facilities, the enemy didn't have just a single Titan. Judging by the disturbances at the Gate of the Red Angel, units of the same class might appear later!

Two thousand points to fight a Titan was simply too little. Even with the aid of an Astartes Legion, this force was insufficient. The good news was that there were weapons in the defensive facilities capable of threatening a Titan. The bad news was that the enemy World Eaters soldiers had noticed this as well. They were raiding the Mortals inside the defensive facilities through various methods like air-drops.

Lion King had already dispatched her Terminators to guard these vital facilities. For a time, near the orbital defense facilities, corpses from both sides littered the battlefield: Mortals and World Eaters alike had long since seen red in the orbital defense facilities. Since Lion King had already observed the enemy combat units in advance, she had issued orders to completely level the orbital defense facilities.

As the saying goes, "leveling the flak guns leads to a court-martial," but by leveling orbital defense facilities capable of striking starships, destroying a Titan would be no problem at all. However, these facilities were originally designed to hit space warships, so they had a minimum engagement range. Once the enemy Titan got too close to the Hive City, the orbital defense facilities would be unable to function. The reason so many World Eaters were suddenly raiding the orbital defense nodes was to stall for time until the Titan closed in.

"Damn, playing this trick on me?"

"Curse these traitors! I must go out personally and kill them all!"

Stepping forward in steel boots, Lion King raised the Aegis in her hand and advanced toward the defensive line. The Terminator Knight Commander behind her wanted to follow but found that in just a few steps, his Primarch seemed to shrink the earth beneath her, moving hundreds of meters with a single stride.

"Quick, keep up!"

Although Terminator armor has a teleportation function, it was very unreliable. It was generally not used unless absolutely necessary, because imprecise coordinates or other issues could cause a person to get stuck in the ground—or even have only half their body teleported. For this reason, the teleportation device was reserved for the most critical moments of a landing operation; normally, it was only used once or twice in a campaign to ensure it didn't fail. Yet now, to keep up with Lion King's pace, many Terminators had no choice but to use it.

The situation at the defensive positions was dire. Without the orbital defense facilities' strikes, countering the enemy Titan would be almost impossible.

"What a mess! It's turned into a complete brawl again!"

"I feel like my combat units are too weak. Should I order some other pieces to diversify my collection?"

Richard had learned his lesson. The types of pieces in his hand were still too few. Although he had borrowed troops from other hobbyists, he still felt stretched thin against an offensive force of the Titan's caliber. Looking at the endless Chaos army, Richard contemplated how to continue influencing the outcome of the game through external forces.

At this moment, Lion King did not rush to the defensive line. The moment her sons teleported to the defensive positions, she changed direction and dashed straight toward the Titan!

"What? Going to solo a Titan? Truly acting like Sanguinius—this is bold!"

Whether it was because the Haji Lion hissed or not, the current Lion King chose to raid the Titan single-handedly. The Titan slowly advanced toward the Hive City world, ignoring the small and agile figure of Lion King.

"Damn, dare to despise me?"

"I'll show you what Lion's Wrath looks like!"

"Quick, stop her!"

"Twist her head off! Blood for the Blood God!"

In that instant, the surrounding World Eaters and Dark Adeptus Mechanicus recognized this special girl. Her physical abilities were simply unnatural; she was likely blessed by the God-Emperor. During this long battle, many traitors had actually seen a Living Saint. Though these traitors were only a minority in the blood domain, such God-touched individuals were treated by the traitors as proof of the God-Emperor's ambition. In their eyes, the Emperor was nothing more than a fallen one who sought to sacrifice humanity to the dark gods.

"Get the hell away from me!"

When Lion King said this, Richard, at the top of the chessboard, had already started laughing. As expected, the big tough guy had already begun accepting that she was a girl. It seemed so! Chaos God Tzeentch is just a chosen of the gods under me; for true abstraction, you have to look at the players!

At this moment, Richard turned his gaze to a very abstract piece—a special piece where the wings of a Lord of Change had been removed and sewn onto a Khorne Daemon. Because two figures had broken before, Richard thought of this remedy. He wondered if Chaos God Tzeentch and Khorne would fall into self-doubt upon seeing it. Did a Lord of Change have an affair, or did a Khorne Daemon cheat?

Braving a hail of bullets, Lion King mowed down enemies like grass. By the time she rushed under the Titan, the Chaos Titan noticed her. It immediately tried to crush her with its giant foot, along with the surrounding soldiers. However, just as the foot was about to stomp down, grass suddenly grew on the Titan's forehead.

"The Wanderer!"

Lion King activated The Wanderer and ran directly onto the Titan's head. Using the sharp sword in her hand, she split the connection between the head cockpit and the shoulder blades. Chaos cultists guarding the cockpit launched an attack on her, but their flesh had fused with the walls. Even if they wanted to fight, they couldn't react due to the constraints of the flesh growths.

"Truly disgusting!"

"Even after becoming like this, you still betray?"

"It would put me at ease if you all just died completely!"

As if the God-Emperor sensed his child's obsession, the holy sword in Lion King's hand erupted with dazzling light. Blazing flames fell, and the Chaos Daemons inside the cockpit were engulfed in screams.

[Lion: Dad, give me a grenade!]

Richard naturally had to provide one. He found an Armor-piercing Cluster Grenade from the box of model parts. This grenade was large—he wondered if it could even be deployed onto the tabletop.

Richard pointed at the grenade and said atop the chessboard:

"You are a cluster grenade that has been bathed by the God-Emperor's feet for forty-nine days. Your power is incredible; one alone can destroy an entire Titan!"

[Equipped your piece Lion King with an Enhanced Cluster Grenade. This grenade has been soaked in the Golden Throne for 7,749 days… its power is amazing… it can instantly annihilate daemons!]

"Boom!"

The Titan collapsed, and the profane runes were incinerated along with the flames. The dazzling golden light blinded the surrounding daemons. Almost all Bloodletters and Chaos Daemons were scorched and covered their eyes. They wailed in pain and retreated; even though Khorne gave them courage, they dared not advance against this destructive power.

[Lion: Truly amazing. I wasn't this powerful before!]

[It seems I'm not what I used to be. Is my current combat power the strongest among the Primarchs?]

The chessboard amplified Lion King's inner thoughts, clearly reminding Richard that Lion was speaking to him.

[Richard: Very good. It would be even better if you could solo an Emperor-class Titan like Sanguinius!]

[Lion: Oh, that!]

Lion King paused. A sense of competitiveness arose spontaneously. She respected Sanguinius greatly and felt she owed him. Yet, she had never known he had soloed an Emperor-class Titan.

[Richard: Let's talk after the war. Maybe if there's a chance, I can bring Sanguinius back!]

Richard chose to remain mysterious, disconnected from Lion King. He didn't have a Sanguinius piece on hand—but if he custom-ordered one, it might take time.

"Right, it doesn't have to be a real piece. I can use a Designate!" Richard smiled knowingly. Since Lion King could use a gender-swapped piece, then Sanguinius…

"If I designate a blonde, big-sister angel with wings as Sanguinius, that should work too."

Looking at the slightly lonely Lion King on the chessboard, Richard decided to gender-swap all her good brothers to keep her company. How awkward it would be if there was only a Lion daughter—she might be too shy to see her brothers. Rather than letting her have a nervous breakdown keeping secrets daily, it would be better to give her an angel sister companion. This way, the relationships among the sisters in the Second Empire would be better.

"Hehe!" Richard's smile was even more devious than Chaos God Tzeentch's. Things even Tzeentch couldn't do were now in his mind.

With Lion King returning to camp, the grand siege battle was considered over. After holding the defensive lines, the orbital defense facilities remained fiercely capable. All key targets on the outer lines received special attention. Using the indirect fire of the Red Cannon, any large enemy unit showing itself would be instantly blown apart and sent into the underground ruins.

"Lord Leon!"

"You are truly amazing! This is a great victory!"

"You personally dismantled a Titan!"

"This is something we Battle-Brothers wouldn't even dare imagine!"

"It's nothing!" Lion King turned her head away, worried. If Sanguinius were resurrected one day, how would she face her former good brother? Would she have to let Sanguinius call her "sister"?

[Richard: What? Want me to send you a sister?]

"Cough, cough, cough!" Lion King patted her forehead, realizing her thoughts were far too profane. Sanguinius had been so good to her; what was she thinking?

[Lion: Cough, cough, it's not impossible!] Lion King teased with slightly reddened cheeks, truly like a tsundere little cat.

"Phew!" Lion King calmed herself and addressed her children seriously.

"Father told me that His Majesty Sanguinius once personally dismantled an Emperor-class Titan! My achievements are still far inferior to his. Wait until I dismantle one myself, then we can celebrate!"

"Yes, Lord Leon!" The Knight Commander had no complaints. His body was covered in grime and blood, dark green livery stained scarlet from the blood of heretics. Fortunately, the Terminator squad fought excellently, with no losses in the emergency defense. Only one unlucky member accidentally teleported into two halves, returning to Richard's hand as a piece.

"So pieces from defeat return to my hand?"

"Wait, it's in two halves. How do I put it back together?"

Richard hadn't expected the damage to synchronize with the piece in his hand. This piece had split in two; if he returned it to Name, he would be furious!

"No, I must glue it back quickly!"

"Oh no, that won't work either!"

"Better buy a new piece to return to him!"

Richard remembered that Name had said if he damaged his pieces, he'd have to pay triple. Though it sounded like a joke, the hobbyist cherished his pieces. Richard immediately placed an online order. Fortunately, this piece could still be bought online; it wasn't rare.

"Sigh…"

"I feel like I don't have enough money!"

"Although I still have surplus savings… I'm not comfortable spending like this!"

Since many companies were laying off staff, Richard had also been laid off, leaving with an N+1 severance package. There was no choice—staying meant salary adjustments and more trouble.

[Successfully held for 5 days. Reward obtained: Lasgun STC Construction Template. This template is small-scale and can only produce small weapons.]

"It's here!" Richard was very excited. He had finally obtained what he wanted! He expected the STC Construction Template to be large, but it was only the size of a refrigerator. He couldn't understand its internal equipment or operating logic.

[Printing and constructing Lasgun. Construction time: 5 minutes.]

"Huh?" Richard looked at the manufactured laser gun in his hand, dumbfounded.

"Okay, now all I'm missing is a green helmet and Flak Armor, and I'll be a qualified Astra Militarum. Then again, is it even legal for ordinary citizens to possess laser weapons?"
