Chapter 14: The Rot in the Sanctuary and the Final Countdown

On the movie poster outside the cinema, a young couple clung to each other. Beside them, the tagline read: "A fateful encounter is understood only in hindsight."

"I was lied to," Sayu sighed, tossing the flyer into the trash without a second thought. She had been moved by those words and took a detour on her way back from grocery shopping, but the reality was disappointing. She felt a mature, steady older man would have been a much better match for the girl.

The streets of Tokyo at night were bustling, yet the people seemed colder than during the day—something Sayu, originally from Hokkaido, still struggled to adapt to. She wondered how late Yoshida would have to work and decided to prepare something light for him. Just as her mind drifted...

"Miyuki-chan?"

The voice was light and lewd, coming from right beside her.

"It's Miyuki, right?"

Sayu froze. A handsome young man with dyed, slicked-back tea-colored hair stood before her. He had the kind of face that easily won over young girls.

"…You have the wrong person." Sayu tried to maintain a blank expression, but her voice trembled uncontrollably.

"Eh, am I hated? How heart-breaking."

The man smiled a practiced, effortless smile. The contrast between his polished exterior and the rot within triggered a blurry memory in Sayu's mind that suddenly snapped into focus.

Yaguchi. This was the man who had taken Sayu in under the guise of helping a "runaway princess," only to kick her out the moment he realized he couldn't squeeze any more money or utility out of her. He was human trash who lived off the desperation of girls.

"Alright, I just wanted to say hello to a friend. If you don't want to talk, fine."

While Sayu stood tense, calculating her escape, Yaguchi simply shrugged and stepped aside. Passersby paid no mind to the silent confrontation. Sayu tentatively walked past.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, nearly reaching its limit as they brushed shoulders. But nothing happened. By some miracle, nothing happened.

"Hah... hah..."

Sayu didn't look back. Once she was a safe distance away, she broke into a run. She ducked into a random convenience store to catch her breath and pulled out her phone.

Ding.

Yoshida picked up his phone. The notification wasn't from Mishima, but Sayu.

"Can you come home early?"

"Sorry, it'll probably be another two or three hours," Yoshida replied immediately after estimating his workload. He felt a pang of worry. Sayu was a sensible girl—almost painfully so—and she rarely messaged him during work. Even when he messaged her, her replies were usually restrained.

"Ugh..."

Once he sensed something was wrong, Yoshida couldn't focus.

"What's up?" his friend Hashimoto asked, noticing his restlessness.

"Nothing..."

"Doesn't look like nothing. Is it about that girl?"

"...Yeah."

Hashimoto sighed. "I told you, you're in deep. Give me your tasks and go home to her."

"But..."

"In the state you're in, you'll only be a hindrance. Besides, my wife went back to her parents' place. No one's waiting for me at home anyway."

Yoshida stood stunned. Their marital spats were common, but this was the first time she'd actually left and cut off communication.

"Just leave the rest to me. If something's wrong at home, get back there."

"Thanks... I owe you one."

Yoshida left the office. He considered telling Sayu he was coming home early, but he worried she'd blame herself for "interfering" with his work.

"I'll just tell her when I get there," he muttered, heading for the station.

"Go home..."

Hiding in the corner of the convenience store, Sayu watched the street through the window. Yaguchi didn't seem to be following. She began to regret the message; Yaguchi had no real reason to bother her now. She had likely overreacted out of fear that Yoshida would see them together and misunderstand.

She walked back toward the residential area. As she approached the apartment, the streets grew quiet. Just as she reached the door and fumbled for her keys...

"So Miyuki-chan lives here now."

The greasy voice crawled up her spine like a cold insect.

"W-Why... why are you following me?"

Sayu suppressed the urge to scream. She gripped her keys tight and turned around, glaring at Yaguchi who was leaning against the wall.

"I just wanted to catch up."

He leaned in, his gaze "licking" her body from head to toe.

"I'll call the police. Stalking is..."

"Go ahead, then."

He saw through her bluff instantly. "I don't mind, but is it okay to involve the man who's keeping you?"

"It's... it's a relative's place..."

"It's a man, isn't it?"

He sneered and knocked on the door. Sayu's heart jumped into her throat. She realized Yoshida wouldn't be home for another two hours. The house was pitch black. Realizing no one was home, Yaguchi became bolder.

"Just let me in for a bit. It's not good for the neighbors to see us standing out here, right?"

It was a lie, and they both knew it.

"No. If he gets angry and kicks me out, you won't take me in, Yaguchi-kun."

"I had no choice back then," Yaguchi said, glancing at her groceries. "Look, I let you stay with me for a while. For the sake of that favor, let me rest my feet."

"No. It's rude to let someone in without the owner's permission."

"I won't do anything wrong. Give me his number, I'll ask him myself."

"I don't have his number."

"...I see."

Sayu's mind was racing. She was terrified of a slip-up. Then, Yaguchi smiled brilliantly.

"I get it. You've fallen for this guy?"

"N-No!"

"But if he found out that Miyuki-chan is the kind of girl who lets anyone sleep with her, he'd be pretty disappointed, wouldn't he?"

"What do you want?" Sayu bit her lip.

"Don't be so hasty. My girlfriend just dumped me—a lying bitch who stole my wallet, too. I'm homeless. My friend can't pick me up until morning." He looked at her with feigned sincerity. "I won't touch you. I won't mention your past. Just one night. If he says no, I'll leave immediately."

Sayu hesitated. If I explain it to Yoshida... he knows my past... but Yaguchi and I...

She was terrified that Yaguchi would linger around the neighborhood and run into Yoshida alone. If that happened, he could say anything to ruin her. It was better to have them both in the room so she could explain. She believed her lover would believe her.

The key turned. The door opened. Yaguchi's mouth curved into a smirk.

As Sayu flipped the lights on, the sound of the door closing echoed behind her.

"Oh, it's so clean! You must be doing all the housework, Miyuki-chan."

Yaguchi walked to the center of the living room and nonchalantly began unzipping his pants.

"You!"

Regret and fear washed over her.

"I'm not breaking our deal. I said I wouldn't touch you."

He chuckled, exposing his erect member and began to stroke it. Knowing the owner wouldn't be back soon, he dropped all pretense. "I can touch my own dick, right?"

"If he sees you..."

"I'll be done and tucked away by then. No problem."

He backed her toward the bedroom door. "You've changed so much, Miyuki. Even wearing stockings to seduce men. How many times have you done it with him?"

"Stop... please stop..."

She was backed into a corner.

"I told you I won't touch you. But I'm jealous—you never dressed up like this for me. Let me come on your stockings!"

"No... you promised..."

"Ah, I'm gonna go! I can't help it! If I don't use something to catch it, it'll get everywhere."

The threat was clear: if it hit the walls or floor, she could never clean it in time. She had to stay in control. With tears in her eyes, Sayu sat on the floor and pulled off one white silk stocking, tossing it to him.

"Thanks! Here it comes!"

With a grunt, the stocking draped over him began to pulse.

Splurt... splurt... splurt...

The silk caught the heavy, pungent fluid. Yaguchi tossed the heavy, reeking sock back at her. She caught it instinctively. The weight of it was a visceral reminder of the man before her—and the fact that she had once been filled by him.

Despite her loathing, her body, starved of intimacy, reacted. Her underwear grew damp, and heat spread down her legs.

"I've changed my mind," Yaguchi sneered, lifting her chin. "You haven't had any in a long time, have you? I can see it on your face."

"When that man gets back, tell him I'm your relative. Then I'll give you a reward. Imagine—being plowed by me in his house while he thinks you're a good girl. It'll be so exciting."

He leaned in. "Last time you took the pill. This time, don't. Let him raise our child."

Sayu's lips trembled. She was about to speak when the sound of the front door opening cut through the room.
