Chapter 12 - Monster

"Alright, boys, time to measure your height and weight!"

At the Snow household, Qin Zayne stood downstairs and shouted.

Then Eric Snow called back, "Coming… coming, I'm coming!"

He seemed very excited, but he didn't know that Qin Zayne didn't care at all about his height.

What Qin Zayne noticed at a glance was Allen Iverson, who was standing behind him, restraining himself while hiding his anticipation.

Eric Snow's height wasn't important, because at 18, he had already passed his growth spurt; no matter how good his nutrition was, it would be hard for him to grow any taller.

Besides, Snow's family background wasn't bad; the Snows were one of those rare Black families where both parents were present. Snow was the youngest in the family and was doted on; he didn't lack nutrition, and his body had developed very well. The food Qin Zayne provided couldn't really be considered a major nutritional boost for him.

"Still 191 cm, height hasn't changed, but the weight is up to 88 kg…"

Eric Snow kept a straight face; he didn't know if the significant weight gain was a good or bad thing for him.

Qin Zayne patted his stomach, feeling it was firm. "Doesn't look like the fat content is very high. No problem at all. This counts as an improvement."

"Improvement?"

Snow's father, old Percy, leaned in, seeking confirmation from Qin Zayne.

Qin Zayne answered matter-of-factly, "Of course. His physicality has improved. Before, he could only match up against Muggsy Bogues, but now he can match up against Kevin Johnson."

Muggsy Bogues was the shortest player in NBA history, only 1.60 meters tall, and also the lightest, so his physicality was recognized as the weakest. Kevin Johnson could be called the original 'Little Steel Cannon'; at the point guard position, his muscle mass and crushing physical ability when driving were unmatched.

Qin Zayne claiming that Eric Snow could match up against Kevin Johnson was, naturally, a bit of an exaggeration. But such a comparison was more intuitive; old Percy immediately understood that his son's current physical ability was top-tier among point guards.

"Don't you worry, Percy. I promised that Eric would become a key rotation player for UNC in the new season, and he will definitely be able to do that."

As time moved into August, Qin Zayne's summer training for Eric Snow could be called a great success. But Qin Zayne felt that the vast majority of the credit should go to Iverson.

Speaking of Iverson, this guy was following behind Snow, eager to get started. Hearing Qin Zayne chat with the Snows for a moment, he became even more impatient.

"Come on, Bubba Chuck, your turn."

16-year-old Iverson was actually nearing the end of his physical development; when he came to Canton over a month ago, his actual height was already 1.78 meters.

1.78 meters was the widely accepted actual height of Iverson in later generations; in other words, he hadn't grown a single millimeter.

"Ultimately, it was the family factors that affected him."

Although at this moment, Qin Zayne only had a crude tape measure in his hand, in reality, he could see Iverson's actual height more intuitively through the system space.

"182 cm. In a little over a month, almost two months, Bubba Chuck has grown 4 cm."

Eric Snow leaned in immediately. "Oh, man, did you mother-f***ing take some aphrodisiac? Growing that much in a month?"

Looking at Iverson, he raised his arms, jumped up suddenly, and then responded to Snow very smugly: "I'm only 16, man. I'm right in the middle of a growth spurt. What's 4 cm in a month?"

Snow nodded. "That's true." Then he raised an eyebrow: "But it's still not enough, Bubba Chuck. You're still too short. Grow at least another 5 cm, okay?"

Iverson patted his chest. "Grow another 5 cm? That's not enough. I should at least grow to be as tall as you, right?"

As an outsider watching their interaction, Qin Zayne suddenly thought of something.

Come to think of it, before Qin Zayne interacted directly with Iverson, he had always viewed Iverson through the lens of his past life's impressions, believing Iverson to be a flamboyant, arrogant, and conceited person. But once he actually spent time with Iverson, he found that the 16-year-old Iverson was very quiet and introverted.

This once made Qin Zayne doubt the world in front of him. Was he really just a time traveler?

Until later, he discovered that Iverson was very flamboyant on the basketball court. And Iverson at this moment also appeared very flamboyant and confident.

"So, it's not that this guy's personality has changed, but rather…"

A 16-year-old child, not yet an adult, following an adult he wasn't very familiar with to a strange place thousands of miles away—even if his nature was flamboyant, how could he possibly show it? Only now, after getting along for almost two months, was Iverson's true nature gradually revealing itself.

Iverson's weight was only 80 kg, but just like Snow's height, this wasn't important. He was still in his growth phase; everything he ate was turning into height, so it was normal that his weight hadn't increased much.

"Alright boys, time to sleep. Remember, good sleep also helps you grow!"

The next day, the one-on-one special training between Iverson and Eric Snow began again. Under Qin Zayne's watchful eye, Iverson became increasingly omnipotent.

His drives, as Eric Snow said, were lethal weapons; the mediocre Eric Snow hadn't been able to stop his drives completely for half a month. And his shooting, as he gradually erased his height disadvantage, became increasingly difficult to defend.

Plus, with Qin Zayne helping to adjust his shooting form and hand placement…

"Did I f***ing raise a monster? Next school year, he'll only be a sophomore!"

American high schools are four-year institutions; in other words, Iverson had three more seasons to dominate on the basketball court at Bethel High School.

The problem was that the current Iverson, facing Eric Snow—the future starting point guard for UNC recognized by Qin Zayne—was already able to form at least a 70/30 dominance.

"Could it be that in three years, this guy will go straight to the NBA draft as a high schooler?"

In Qin Zayne's own layout, Iverson was a very critical link. But it seemed this link, because of his sudden inspiration, was becoming a bit out of his control.

"Need to find a time to fly to the Virgin Islands."

About a week later, it was close to the start of the school year. In Canton, Qin Zayne announced: "Ok, boys, our summer training ends here. Bubba Chuck, I'll take you back to Hampton tomorrow. As for you, Eric, pack your things and get ready to report to Chapel Hill!"

At parting, Eric Snow asked Iverson: "You play basketball so well, are you still going to play football too?"

Iverson hesitated. "For now, I'll keep doing both, I guess? Honestly, I still like football a bit more."

Snow clapped his hands at this moment. "That's great. A genius like you shouldn't come to the basketball court to wreck mediocre people like us."

Qin Zayne just felt speechless, shaking his head. "Want to hear my advice?"

"What?"

Both of them turned their heads to look at Qin Zayne.

"Based on Bubba Chuck's current development, he is guaranteed to be the next NBA number one overall pick. Do you know the value of the rookie contract Larry Johnson signed with the Charlotte Hornets? 12 years, 110 million dollars. Can the NFL offer a contract like that?"

In 1991, the annual salary of the current NFL GOAT, Joe Montana, was only 4 million dollars—not even as much as an NBA rookie.

"Do you want to make money, Bubba Chuck? If you want to make money, come to the NBA."

Iverson fell into deep thought; at 16, he didn't seem like he should be considering the issue of making money so early. But children from poor families grow up early; the predicament the Iverson family was currently facing really required Iverson to step up.

"Hello, Swann, where are you now? Hampton? Time to come back to work, the new season is about to start!"

UNC, Chapel Hill.

Dean Smith dialed the phones of his assistants, notifying them to assemble for work. The new season was really about to start!
