Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Mom, I'm in Love

[ Oniyakihime ]: "Haha, Great Onmyoji, you'll soon learn how foolish it was to make an enemy of me."

The male protagonist's character portrait appeared on the right side of the screen: a handsome Onmyōji wearing a tall hat.

His name was [ Asakura Haruka ].

He started at the maximum level of 99.

[ Asakura Haruka ]: "Enough talk. You've slaughtered countless innocents and stained your hands with blood. Today, I will act as heaven's vengeance."

The initial tutorial battle was set to max level, allowing players to enjoy themselves while thoroughly explaining the game's unique combat system.

Furukawa was a super gamer himself, and he was already very familiar with this type of RPG, so he got the hang of it quickly.

The screen lit up with dazzling special effects whenever the male protagonist used a skill.

"Wow. The game's skill effects are amazing too."

After defeating Oniyakihime, the male protagonist, Asakura Haruka, woke up.

Ah~

What a letdown, it was just a dream.

Still, even a dream like that was unforgettable.

Koze Furukawa savored the memory of the Oniyakihime sequence. To be honest, he already had extremely high expectations for the female characters he might encounter in the future.

So far, this galgame had delivered an experience unlike any other.

First, the graphics were absolutely top-tier, crushing every other game on the market.

The character designs and story background were flawless.

The remaining crucial element was whether the plot could provide players with an extraordinary experience.

If it was just about monster hunting and steamrolling through challenges, even with its stunning visuals, it would remain a top-tier galgame at best. For Koze, it wouldn't necessarily stand out as a masterpiece in the RPG genre.

Still~

No need to set the bar too high for a galgame.

Clearly, Koze Furukawa had underestimated Onmyoji and the charm of galgames.

This was far more than a typical galgame.

From start to finish, the scenes he had originally expected never materialized. Instead, he was treated to meticulously crafted character dialogue, a compelling plot, and a variety of side quests and main story arcs.

The game had only truly begun; what came before was merely a tantalizing preview.

Asakura Haruka was originally an ordinary young man from a small town, running a Hot Spring Inn with his aunt.

As a Hot Spring Inn, it naturally included some... indescribable scenes.

Of course, the game offered little room to depict these directly. At most, he'd overhear a snippet or two through the door, relying on text to ignite the player's imagination.

Yet even this was enough to satisfy Koze Furukawa immensely.

The saying "details make the difference" held true. For an RPG primarily focused on combat to invest such care in these minor elements showed the producer's ingenuity.

This must be a master with a craftsman's spirit, pursuing perfection.

But...

Furukawa looked up, pondering deeply. He truly had never heard of the name Pokeni.

Perhaps this company poached a game producer from somewhere else, he thought.

With this idea in mind, Koze Furukawa continued playing the game.

One day, a group of strangely dressed guests arrived at the Hot Spring Inn.

They came from the war-torn lands of the West, but their true purpose remained mysterious. The only clue was their peculiar behavior when mentioning Immortal Spirit Island, their expressions becoming enigmatic and inscrutable.

To Asakura Haruka's dismay, these scum poisoned his aunt.

To save her life, Haruka had to travel to Immortal Spirit Island and seek a cure from the Divine Maiden who resided there.

Thus, Haruka boarded a ferry bound for Immortal Spirit Island.

After defeating the island's guardian stone statues, he successfully reached its center.

By sheer coincidence, he stumbled upon Miko Yuuki Rei bathing in the lake's center.

"Ah! Who's there?!"

The girl turned around, revealing half of her fair arm and the distinct curve of her collarbone, enough to ignite a man's imagination.

Her face was flawless, her eyes clear as crystal, and her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, giving her an air of delicate vulnerability and pure innocence.

Even though it was just a static image, it was already stunning.

"Wow!"

Koze Furukawa's eyes were glued to the screen.

So this is the true heroine from the cover.

It's a shame...

The crucial areas are all covered in holy light!

Damn it!

Too bad it's a 16+ game. If it were 18+, I could have feasted my eyes right now.

Speaking of which, Pokeni's censorship method is quite unique.

Furukawa couldn't help but think—

Most games just slap on a bunch of pixelated blocks, leaving you clueless about what's underneath.

But Pokeni uses blurring and holy light, creating a remarkably natural and clever effect. It looks like a natural consequence of lighting, without any artificial tampering.

This makes you appreciate the developer's meticulous care even more.

"Impressive," he murmured.

After I clear this game, I'm definitely going to find out who this developer is.

Asakura Haruka, still believing her to be the island's Divine Maiden, secretly stole her clothes, hoping to exchange them for the antidote to save his aunt.

To his surprise, Miko Yuuki Rei, after putting her clothes back on, immediately beat him up, teaching him a harsh lesson.

Fortunately, Yuuki Rei's grandmother arrived in time, preventing Asakura Haruka from being killed on the spot.

Seeing this, Koze Furukawa burst into laughter like a pig.

"Interesting! So interesting!"

Not just "sleep with one and knock them down."

This game is truly miraculous.

In other galgames, the male protagonist either has to actively pursue the girls, or the female characters are pushovers who fall into his arms, or even throw themselves at him. Some Blue Games don't even have dialogue—you just click "Mate" to see the final scene.

There's no plot to speak of.

But Onmyoji is completely different. Just when Koze Furukawa thought the protagonist would ambush her in the lake and conquer her with his overwhelming power, this unexpected twist occurred.

Girls have their own dignity and temperaments; they don't just swarm over the male protagonist like flies.

In that moment, Yuuki Rei suddenly came alive, gaining her own personality.

Koze Furukawa realized for the first time that Blue Games could actually be like this?

A girl with a real personality seems so much more compelling.
