Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The Silver Ribbon

The first thing I felt was the silence. It wasn't the peaceful kind; it was the heavy, pressurized quiet that follows a bomb blast. My lungs felt like they had been scrubbed with sandpaper, and every time my heart beat, a dull throb pulsed behind my eyes.

I opened my eyes slowly. The ceiling of the bunker was still there, but the golden roots of the World-Tree were no longer glowing. They looked dim, almost grey, as if they had spent every drop of their energy just to keep the roof from falling in.

[Warning: Physical Status - Critical.] [Mana: 0.2% — Mana Circuits are severely scorched.] [Status: 'Void Contamination' partially healed.]

I tried to sit up, and a sharp, white-hot pain bolted through my chest. I gasped, clutching my ribs, and that's when I saw it. My hand. The one the Apostle had crushed into the metal floor.

It was perfect. No scars, no bruising, not even a lingering ache. But it felt cold—colder than the rest of my body.

"Chen? Han Chen! He's awake!"

Lee Sung-min came rushing over. He looked like he'd aged ten years in a single night. Behind him, several other students peered out from the vault, their faces pale.

"What happened?" I managed to croak. My voice sounded like stones grinding together.

"We don't know," Sung-min whispered. "The door... it just vanished. We felt this weight, like the mountain was sitting on our chests. And then there was this flash. By the time the light faded, the door was back. You were lying here alone."

I looked toward the heavy steel blast door. It stood there, solid and unyielding, without a single scratch. If I hadn't felt the cold grip of the Apostle's fingers on my soul, I would have thought I'd lost my mind.

I looked down at the floor, right where the Apostle had been standing. There, tucked into a small seam in the metal, was a silver ribbon.

I reached out and picked it up. The moment my skin touched it, a notification box appeared. It wasn't the blue of the System, or the red of the Administrators. It was a shimmering, electric violet.

[Item: Ribbon of the Star-Seeker] [Effect: Temporarily stabilizes broken Mana Circuits.]

As I tied the ribbon around my wrist, my HUD didn't just flicker—it exploded with new data. The "Glitch" the Apostle tried to delete hadn't just survived; it had evolved.

[System Error: External Interference Detected.] [Analyzing Soul Fragment...] [Unlocking Hidden Potential due to 'Near-Death' Experience.]

A surge of power, far hotter and more violent than my usual shadows, roared through my veins. It felt like my blood was turning into liquid lightning.

[New Authority Unlocked: Sovereign's Judgment.] [Skill: 'Void-Step' (Rank: SSS - Growth Type)]

Description: The user can briefly phase out of reality, becoming untouchable by physical or magical attacks for 3 seconds.

Passive: Your Shadow soldiers now deal 'True Damage' to Void-type entities.

[New Authority Unlocked: Monarch's Eye.]

Description: You can now see the 'Weakness Points' of any entity, even those 30 levels above you.

My breath hitched. In my past life, I hadn't unlocked these until the final years of the war. To have them now, on Day 1... it was insane. The mysterious figure hadn't just saved me; they had forcibly upgraded my soul.

I stood up, and this time, the floor didn't wobble. I felt stronger, faster, and much more dangerous.

"Han Chen, you need to rest," Sung-min said. "The Third Wave... it's only forty minutes away."

"I don't need rest," I said, my voice vibrating with the new power.

I looked at the clock on my HUD.

[Time until Third Wave: 00:38:12]

I walked toward the cafeteria. The students were all watching me. They were waiting for a command. I looked at the silver ribbon on my wrist. I didn't know who she was, but she had given me a weapon the Gods didn't want me to have.

"Sung-min, get the gear ready," I commanded, my voice echoing like thunder in the small hall. "Hana, with me. I'm going to show you how to kill a God."

Forty minutes later, a screeching roar tore through the quarry outside.

The Third Wave was here. But for the first time, I wasn't just planning to survive. I was planning to hunt.
