Chapter 119 - Chapter 119: The You That Doesn’t Need to Win

The reflection stopped in front of him.

Close.

Too close.

Edrin could see it clearly now—

Every detail.

Every movement.

Every certainty—

That he didn't have.

"…Yeah," he muttered.

A breath.

"…You're definitely better."

Ronan chuckled from behind.

"Admitting that already?"

"…I'm not blind."

Lyra's voice was calm.

"…It's not about better."

Kael added,

"…It is about alignment."

Edrin exhaled slowly.

"…Yeah."

Because that was the problem.

The reflection—

Was aligned.

Perfectly.

No hesitation.

No doubt.

No conflict.

Everything Edrin struggled with—

It didn't.

And that made it—

Stronger.

"…So what now?" Ronan asked.

Edrin didn't answer immediately.

Because the answer—

Wasn't obvious.

Fighting it?

Pointless.

Running?

Meaningless.

Matching it again?

Impossible.

"…Nothing," he said finally.

Silence.

Ronan raised an eyebrow.

"…Nothing?"

"…Yeah."

Edrin looked at the reflection.

Not as something to overcome.

Not as something to defeat.

But as something that existed—

Separately from him.

"…I don't need to beat you."

A pause.

"…And I don't need to become you."

The reflection didn't react.

Didn't move.

But something—

Shifted.

Lyra smiled faintly.

"…You understand."

Kael nodded.

"…Conflict unnecessary."

Ronan smirked.

"Well that's boring."

"…Or efficient."

Edrin stepped forward.

Closing the distance.

The reflection didn't stop him.

Didn't resist.

Just—

Watched.

"…You're what I could be," Edrin said quietly.

A pause.

"…But that's not what I am."

Silence.

Then—

The reflection moved.

Not attacking.

Not retreating.

But stepping aside.

Clearing the path.

Ronan blinked.

"…Seriously?"

Lyra's voice softened.

"…It's done."

Kael confirmed,

"…Evaluation complete."

Edrin exhaled slowly.

"…Huh."

A small, almost amused smile formed.

"…That was it."

Because this time—

There was no fight.

No struggle.

No victory.

Just—

Acceptance.

Not of perfection.

Not of weakness.

But of self.

Ronan shook his head.

"I was really hoping for a fight."

"…You always are."

Lyra stepped forward.

"…You didn't reject it."

Edrin nodded.

"…Yeah."

A pause.

"…But I didn't chase it either."

Kael added,

"…Balanced resolution."

Edrin looked back at the reflection.

It was already fading.

Not disappearing completely.

But becoming less defined.

Less necessary.

"…You're still there," he muttered.

Lyra glanced at it.

"…As a possibility."

Kael nodded.

"…Not a requirement."

Ronan grinned.

"So you've got a better version of yourself just hanging around now."

"…Something like that."

Edrin turned away.

"…I'm fine with that."

Because now—

He didn't need to prove anything.

Didn't need to surpass anything.

Didn't need to reach something beyond himself.

He just needed to—

Keep moving.

As himself.

"…Alright," he said quietly.

A breath.

"…Let's keep going."

Lyra smiled.

"…Yes."

Kael stepped forward.

"…Proceed."

Ronan cracked his neck.

"Hope the next one actually hits something."

"…You're impossible."

They moved forward.

And this time—

The world didn't feel heavier.

Didn't feel sharper.

Didn't feel more dangerous.

It felt—

Clearer.

Because whatever came next—

Wouldn't be about becoming something else.

It would be about—

Continuing as who they already were.
