Viktor arrived at his hometown and exited the vehicle, taking in the familiar, quiet surroundings. The front door of the house was already wide open when his father stepped out onto the porch, carrying a heavy cardboard box. Viktor quickly strode up the walkway to approach him and took the weight of the box into his own hands.
"Good morning, Dad," he greeted his father with a warm smile.
"Viktor? What are you doing here?" Theodore asked, his face a mix of confusion and surprise as he followed his son toward the outdoor storeroom.
"Can't I come home to see my own father?" Viktor chuckled, navigating the familiar path and carefully placing the box on one of the worktables in the storeroom.
Theodore's surprised look melted away. He opened his arms wide and pulled Viktor into a tight, hearty hug. "It's good to see you, son. It's been far too many months."
