Chapter 1 - Prologue

Humanity had lost... again.

"No-"

All that remained was one man, the man once known as humanity's greatest hero, the savior, and many other titles.

But despite all his strength and all his struggles, they had still lost.

"NOOO!!"

The hero screamed in pain as he held his lover's corpse in his arms.

He stood in the middle of a barren, lifeless wasteland surrounded by corpses of everyone he ever knew and cared for.

"Looks like you've failed again." An ethereal-like voice came from above. It was impossible to tell whether it belonged to a male or a female... but one could tell it was mocking the hero.

The hero gazed up and saw the figure towering above as if looking at an ant.

"You!" The hero grit his teeth. "This is your fault!"

The hero grabbed his spear, but his body froze, refusing to listen to him.

The figure came down until it reached eye level with the hero.

"Let me remind you what you are."

The figure placed its hand upon the hero's head.

The hero tried to resist, tried to move, but...

He couldn't.

"A puppet cannot betray its master."

The hero's pupils seemed to fade as if his soul was just ripped from his body.

The figure vanished.

All that remained was a husk of a once-respected hero and the destroyed world of humanity.

"What bullshit!" Jake exclaimed.

He threw his phone on his bed.

"You telling me the one who regressed him was actually the bad guy?"

"Wow, that wasn't obvious." He sarcastically commented.

"Haa... Killing off everyone just like that was pretty fucked up, but you could've at least given him a chance to revive them or something."

"That's another story down the drain."

He got up from his hospital bed and headed toward the cafeteria. "I'm hungry."

"Well, if it isn't Jake." A nurse greeted him in the hallway.

"Who are y-? Oh my god, ma'am, I didn't recognise you." He exaggerated. "You look 10 years younger."

"Haha, Jake, very funny."

He smiled, "No, seriously, when is your boyfriend gonna propose?"

The nurse frowned slightly. "I'm wondering the same thing."

"Ahem... I heard you got first in that exam, congratulations." Another nurse spoke.

"Oh its nothing, thanks. It wasn't even that hard," He shrugged.

"Ye should tell that to my grandson; he failed the first grade." An elderly man spoke.

The hallway filled with laughter as others joined in on the conversation.

"Okay, guys, I gotta go now," Jake spoke.

"Where ye heading, Jake?" The elderly man asked.

"Oh, I'm just going to the cafeteria."

"Are you sure it's okay to walk around like this?" They asked in a worried tone, their eyes filled with... pity

"...No, I'm sure I'll be fine, anyway, I gotta go, I'm really hungry." He forced a smile.

He left with his hands in his pockets, the smile disappearing, he didn't want to show it...

He was trembling.
