Kaelen was forced by Draven to stay bedridden for exactly one month.
He argued for three days then gave up, because Draven brought this matter complaining directly to Sane. Sane cleared away all pens, papers, and blueprints in the house, every day only allowing his mate to hold a pen for exactly two hours, confiscating it when the time passed.
Kaelen lay flat on the bed, bored to the point of counting every beam on the roof.
In contrast, the egg was very busy.
During the day it lay in the nest for the Golden Peafowl clan to take turns incubating; in the afternoon Larkspur carried it over for Kaelen to hug for a while, at night carrying it back to the western housing block. Ignis crawled over whenever he saw his younger brother; some days he spat fire roasting the egg, some days he lay across the eggshell falling asleep directly.
