Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Unknowns

Nyx looked at Kaelen, having a thousand words in his stomach to say, but upon reaching his mouth, swallowed them back down. Just now, when Kaelen applied medicine to the rabbit, Nyx felt a fluctuation of magical energy. It was something he had only felt once before leaving the Temple, going to the place the God designated for each Priest.

It was the magical energy fluctuation when the High Priest bestowed blessing incantations upon the chosen ones.

He had said Kaelen was the one chosen by the God!

Kaelen looked at Nyx, knowing Nyx had realized something. Actually, Kaelen didn't intend to hide anything from Nyx; this was the person who, even when a wild beast bit off one of his arms, adamantly refused to abandon Kaelen; just that alone was enough for Kaelen to sell his life to Nyx.

Furthermore, for nineteen full years, Kaelen was still accommodated and tolerated by the tribe, largely because he had the support of the two leaders of the tribe: Priest Nyx and Chief Jaxon behind him. Therefore, aside from the fact that he and Sane had a carnal relationship, Kaelen didn't intend to hide anything from them.

Of course, not including matters of his past life, which were too absurd. Well, just blame it on the Beast God; surely the God wouldn't mind, right?

While streams of thought ran through his mind, Kaelen didn't neglect the experiment on the rabbit either. He broke the rabbit's leg again, applied medicine, and immobilized the rabbit's leg. This time, he didn't use his ability anymore.

Actually, Kaelen's ability wasn't that overpowered; it was only because this rabbit was too small that it was somewhat overly effective.

After bandaging the rabbit, Kaelen hid the bodies of the other two rabbits at the very bottom of a basket, covering them with some medicinal plants. He absolutely couldn't let Draven see them, otherwise the next time Draven saw him, Draven would definitely take a detour.

Not knowing if the rabbits, having been exposed to the drug, still had residual toxicity in their bodies, if someone unluckily ate them, it would be a huge disaster. Kaelen intended to take them back near his cave and dig a hole to bury them.

The rabbit exposed to the numbing drug was locked in a cage tied with simple wooden sticks; Kaelen ignored it, pulling Nyx's arm to sit at the large table in the middle of the cave.

[Priest, since waking up yesterday, my head has gained a lot of things, but there are too many so I can't remember them all; therefore, only when I look at something or some matter, can I remember.]

[Also, I suddenly gained this ability...] Kaelen finished gesturing, then held a medicinal grass seed in his hand, closed his eyes, and lightly circulated his ability. A pale green light flew out from Kaelen's palm, enveloping the seed. It suddenly floated in the air, then sprouted, grew leaves, and gradually matured.

However, before it reached its most perfect state, Kaelen's ability was exhausted; the medicinal plant fell from the air to the ground, while Kaelen swayed, about to fall.

"Kaelen!"

Nyx panicked and supported Kaelen's weak body, softly scolding:

"What are you doing? Not even knowing if it's dangerous or not and you just do it recklessly! Well, are you still okay?"

Kaelen shook his head, smiling, but his hand raised mid-gesture dropped back down. Damn it, he's exhausted to death! The ability that followed him into this world was too little, exactly like when he had just awakened in his past life.

Nyx supported Kaelen to sit leaning against the table, then poured a cup of water and fed it to him, saying slowly:

"The thing you just displayed, I know of it; it's called magical energy, something only the High Priests at the Temple are allowed to possess."

Kaelen almost choked to death. Did that mean there were also ability users in this place?

"I've only been able to witness it once; aside from the few High Priests at the Temple in the God-tier city, I've never seen this type of energy appear anywhere else. However, I managed to collect some travelogues, which contain some revelations about Magical Energy." He took out a thick parchment book hidden securely in a stone compartment right next to his bed, opened it to the records about magical energy, and let Kaelen see: "Look, it's recorded here:

*Legend has it, the world used to be a unified entity, and all living creatures in the world possessed magical energy. Some people could breathe fire, and some wild beasts could freeze the ground. There were many strange races; some races had pointy ears, green or white skin, with the ability to control Nature Guardians.*

*Or there were people barely a meter tall who possessed profound wisdom, able to manufacture all sorts of mechanisms and formidable weapons. There were also giant creatures flying in the sky, and creatures whose upper half was human and lower half a fish tail acting as overlords of the ocean,...*

There's still a lot in the later parts; these things seem like stories written to pass the time, but I actually believe they are real. The world is vast, anything can happen. Just like you now, suddenly awakening magical energy that only the High Priest has. This is perhaps not a coincidence."

From the moment Kaelen heard the description of that pointy-eared creature, his mind had been shaken incessantly. If he wasn't mistaken, was that creature exactly the Elf race?

And the creature barely a meter tall yet with extraordinary wisdom, wasn't that a dwarf?

The giant creature flying in the sky, Dragon?

That beautiful half-human half-fish species was definitely the mermaid from legends!

Damn it, apart from not having six genders like in his past life, the settings were exactly the same as the world of his past life. He clearly remembered humans like him were on a separate continent; crossing the sea or traversing the dangerous black forest would lead to the continent of non-human creatures.

However, Kaelen had never seen anyone go exploring new lands and come back alive; the things he was able to see were only redrawn pictures, or a few blurry-beyond-belief shadows in magic mirrors.

Could it be that he wasn't reincarnated into primitive times when humans hadn't fully evolved, but was reincarnated into the mysterious world on the other side of the continent?

[Can I take it back to read?]

His strength having recovered about eighty percent, Kaelen sat up straight, his eyes sparkling as he stared fixedly at the old parchment book like looking at a treasure. This travelogue could possibly be the key for him to better understand the crazy world he had just set foot in.

Nyx let out a sigh, carefully rolled up the parchment, and stuffed it into Kaelen's hands.

"Take it, but absolutely do not let anyone see it. The Temple once searched for and destroyed books related to this content on a large scale; even those who grasped the secrets within them were eliminated by them. The people who possessed it probably didn't want the truth to be covered up, so they hid it in the form of a travelogue. Me acquiring it, I don't know if it's fortunate or unfortunate either.

As for your magical energy, from now on, besides me, absolutely do not casually execute it in front of others, not even Chief Jaxon. If those people at the Temple in the God-tier city know a Sub-Beast drifting in this tiny tribe possesses the power of a High Priest, they will take you away to act as a tool, or worse, dissect you for research."

Kaelen obediently nodded, gesturing seriously:

[I understand, Priest. Unless it's life-threatening, I will keep it hidden.]

He lived in his past life long enough to understand the principle of "a person carrying a jewel is guilty". A Sub-Beast suddenly possessing divine power, if without enough strength to protect himself, would be no different from a piece of fat meat thrown into a pack of hungry wolves.

After asking for permission from Priest Nyx, Kaelen carried the woven basket hiding the bodies of the two unlucky rabbits, brought the wooden cage confining the paralyzed rabbit, and went outside. Draven still obediently stood guard at the cave entrance; seeing Kaelen come out, Draven's long ears twitched, staring at the cage containing the rabbit. Three rabbits, only one left; where were the other two?

Kaelen just crinkled his eyes, waving goodbye to Draven, then kept his head down and walked quickly toward the edge of the forest near his cave. He needed to dispose of these experimental leftovers first.

Finding a large ancient tree with intertwined roots, Kaelen took a hard tree branch and began digging the dirt laboriously. While digging, his mind constantly analyzed the situation.

Uncle Icarus's problem now wasn't just breaking the bone and setting it back. His Wood element ability carried extremely powerful life and self-healing properties. Just now, on the rabbit's body, he only leaked a tiny bit of energy, and its bone and skin knit together immediately. However, a tiny rabbit couldn't be compared with the colossal size of a Beastman; if he used too little, there would be no effect, if he used too much, Uncle Icarus's leg might heal instantly.

By then, what awaited him would be the pyre.

*Looks like in the coming days, I must find some tree stump to practice controlling the amount of ability output. Only stimulating the bone cells to heal halfway, leaving the rest for the beastman's abnormal constitution to resolve by itself is the best.* Kaelen thought to himself, his hands throwing the two rabbit bodies into the hole, then covering it with dirt.

Right as he was stamping his feet to compact the dirt layer down, a deep voice, carrying a bit of probing, suddenly rang out from behind his back:

"What are you sneaking around doing?"

Kaelen started violently, almost throwing the rabbit cage into the newcomer's face. He snapped his head around, and what met his eyes was Sane's tall, muscular figure. He was crossing his arms over his chest, his deep gaze pinning Kaelen down, darting back and forth evaluating from top to bottom as if wanting to see through Kaelen to see if there was any place on his body that was unwell.

Kaelen swallowed his saliva, cursing silently in his heart. Enemies on a narrow path; the tribe was so large, why did he have to run right into this ecstasy-popping beastman who made him bedridden for days!
