“!!!”
I jumped out of bed in terror.
I couldn’t breathe.
Pounding my chest fervently, I rolled across the bed.
I think I even let out a cry for help a couple of times.
When I came to my senses after suffering for what felt like forever in delirium, Zahid was on top of me.
He held me down and called my name.
“Aerta.”
His voice was as calm as the midnight clouds.
“Breathe, Aerta.”
But I couldn’t do so.
My body trembled uncontrollably.
I struggled and bawled, but Zahid refused to let me go.
Unable to stand the pain, I dug my nails into his skin.
Even while I scratched red lines across his shoulders and arms, Zahid didn’t flinch once.
“Ha, haargh, Argh……”
Saliva that I couldn’t swallow dripped down the side of my mouth.
I was being swallowed by mortifying pain and fear that resembled death.
As the world grew darker and darker, only his sharp violet eyes shone brightly.
