Chapter 21 - It’s Just Him…. Right?

"JAY JAY" pov

I woke up earlier than usual, which already felt wrong. I sat there for a second, staring at the ceiling. "…why am I awake?" I muttered, then got up anyway.

Downstairs, Aries looked at me like I'd committed a crime. "Well, well… you woke up early today, little monkey."

I narrowed my eyes. "Say that again."

"Little. Monkey."

"…you're really asking for it."

He smirked, sipping his coffee. "What's the occasion?"

"Nothing."

"Yeah, you woke up early for nothing."

I ignored him and started eating, pretending he didn't exist.

Right then, my phone buzzed.

I glanced at it.

👑 king of uolopong 👑

I'm outside.

I paused. "…already?" A small smile slipped out before I could stop it.

"Why are you smiling like that?" Aries asked immediately.

"I'm not."

"You are."

"…mind your business."

I grabbed my bag and walked out before he could say anything else.

He was there.

Leaning against the car like he'd been waiting.

For a second, I just looked at him. "…he came early," I thought.

I walked up to him, and before I could overthink it, I leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.

Then stepped back like nothing happened.

He froze for a second.

Then looked at me. "…that's it?"

I raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"That's all I get?"

I shrugged. "You're lucky you got that."

He stared at me, then smirked slightly. "…you're going to regret that."

"…threatening me this early?"

"Just saying."

I rolled my eyes, but I was smiling.

The drive to school was quiet, but not awkward. Our hands found each other somewhere in between and just stayed like that.

Classes were boring. Sir Alvin walked in and immediately started talking about exams. "Your exams are in three weeks, so start preparing seriously."

"…great," I thought.

No one cared. Not really.

Lunch break came, and we were all sitting like usual, eating and arguing over random things.

I was mid-bite when Keifer said casually, "We're going out."

I looked at him. "…what?"

"A date."

I blinked.

Before I could reply—

Cin slammed her hand on the table. "WHAT?!"

I flinched. "…why are you shouting?"

"You're going on a DATE?" she yelled.

"Lower your voice," I muttered.

Felix leaned in. "Where?"

Calix added, "When?"

Eren grinned. "What's the plan?"

"…none of your business," I said.

"Everything is our business," Cin snapped.

Keifer just sat there, calm. "Later."

Cin pointed at me dramatically. "You better tell me everything."

"…no."

The rest of the classes somehow passed, still boring, still slow.

Soon, school ended.

The drive back with Aries was quiet at first. He was driving, focused, not saying much.

I glanced at him, then looked away.

"…should I tell him?" I thought.

After a minute, I spoke. "I'm going out."

He didn't look at me. "I figured."

"With Keifer."

A small pause.

Then—"Yeah."

I frowned slightly. "…that's it?"

"What do you want? A speech?"

"…no."

He exhaled lightly. "Just don't come home late."

I blinked.

"…that was easy."

Then he added, "Because I'm not saving you from Kuya if you do."

I leaned back in my seat.

"…there it is."

"Deal with it," he said.

I looked out the window, a small smile forming.

"…worth it."

I stood in front of the mirror for longer than I should have.

"…this is fine," I muttered, adjusting my sleeve again.

It wasn't like I hadn't gone out before.

Got it 👍✨ — I'll tone it down: less panic, more cute + controlled nervous, still a little funny.

I had just reached my room and dropped my bag when my phone buzzed.

I picked it up lazily.

👑 king of uolopong 👑

I'll pick you up in 15.

I paused.

"…15?"

I looked at myself in the mirror.

Still in uniform. Hair slightly messy.

"…okay."

Not panic.

Just—

focus.

I walked to my closet and opened it, scanning through quickly.

"Something simple," I muttered.

I picked one outfit.

Looked at it.

"…no."

Second one.

"…maybe."

I held it up in front of the mirror, tilting my head slightly.

"…too much."

I sighed and placed it on the bed.

Then suddenly—

a thought came.

"…what if I just go like this?"

I looked at my uniform again.

"…no."

I smacked my forehead lightly.

"Be serious."

I turned back to the closet and this time didn't overthink.

Picked something simple.

Clean.

"…this works."

I changed quickly and looked at myself again.

Better.

I fixed my hair a little, adjusting it once, then again.

"…stop."

I stepped back slightly.

Makeup.

Just a little.

Not too much.

I leaned closer to the mirror, focusing quietly.

"…why does this feel different?" I thought.

I didn't answer that.

A small touch here.

A little there.

Then—

lip gloss.

I applied it carefully.

Looked at myself again.

"…okay."

Not perfect.

Not dramatic.

Just right.

I picked up my phone.

10 minutes.

"…good."

I grabbed my bag and headed toward the door, stopping for a second.

"…it's just a date," I told myself.

A small pause.

"…with him."

I shook my head lightly and walked out.
