Chapter 1

Tokyo

Behind the desk sat a woman with long, elegant brown ears and short chestnut hair. In one hand she held a steaming cup of black tea, in the other a brain X-ray film that glowed faintly under the examination lamp.

After a long, thoughtful silence, she lifted her gaze to the young man sitting opposite her. A clear spark of fascination danced in her crimson eyes, their horizontal slit-like pupils narrowing with interest.

"Getting launched a full ten meters by an Uma Musume sprinting at several dozen kilometers per hour… and the only injury is a minor cartilage contusion?" "Hohoho… What a fascinating physique you have."

She smiled, the corners of her mouth curving upward like a scientist who had just discovered a brand-new specimen. "Yasui-kun… would you be interested in becoming my guinea pig?"

Sitting across from her, Yasui Makoto shook his head so fast his vision blurred. "Please excuse me, but I must decline, Dr. Agnes Tachyon." "Also… besides the contusion, there aren't any other issues, right?"

Dr. Agnes Tachyon gently set the X-ray down, cradled her cup of black tea with both hands, and took a slow, deliberate sip. Her eyes narrowed into pleased crescents.

How very interesting… this young man…

A few months earlier, the academy had announced this year's Central Trainer Exam results. As always, the pass rate was brutally low. But the name that claimed first place had sent shockwaves through the entire industry.

Yasui Makoto. Eighteen years old. He had only graduated from the Trainer Academy the previous year. In every subject except vocal performance (singing and dancing), he had scored a perfect 100. Even Agnes Tachyon, a former top-tier Uma Musume herself, had been genuinely astonished.

Obtaining a Central-level trainer's license was no exaggeration to call it "one in ten thousand." Most successful trainers were already over thirty. Someone in their twenties was rare. Someone doing it at eighteen? Practically unheard of.

She had been looking for an excuse to get a tissue sample from him, ideally a brain slice or two. It might accelerate several of her more ambitious research projects. But between hospital duties, experiments, faculty meetings, and her lectures at Tracen Academy, the opportunity had never come.

Until today. He had literally been delivered to her doorstep.

The reason? Exactly what she had mentioned, an Uma Musume running at full sprint had sent him flying.

Under normal circumstances, such an impact would have caused internal injuries or broken bones at the very least. Yet Yasui Makoto had only suffered a mild contusion. According to the Uma Musume who brought him in, he had stood up immediately afterward and looked completely fine.

In other words, it wasn't just his mind that was extraordinary. His body was built like nothing she had ever seen.

Now then… what kind of excuse should I use to get this adorable little guinea pig into a nice, thorough slicing procedure? Hohohoho…

She took another sip of tea, pretending to ponder his condition while her mind raced with delightful possibilities.

Feeling those crimson eyes boring into him, Yasui Makoto felt a chill crawl down his spine. He had heard the rumors about Dr. Agnes Tachyon, something about her enthusiasm for human experimentation. The rumors had never been officially confirmed, but right now she was putting on an extremely convincing "I'm thinking about your health" act while clearly plotting something else entirely.

He could read the X-ray himself. Not only because becoming a Central trainer required solid medical knowledge, but also because in his previous life he had been an extreme stunt performer.

Extreme stunts were a relatively new high-risk sport that combined and pushed the limits of gymnastics, martial arts, capoeira, parkour, and more into ever more spectacular routines. In that life, despite his outstanding talent, a tragic accident during a high-altitude performance had sent him straight into this world.

Only then had he discovered just how peculiar this new reality was.

There were no horses here. Instead, there were Uma Musume, beautiful girls blessed by the three goddesses, sporting long horse ears and flowing tails, with physiques far beyond anything humanly possible. Their leg strength alone was astonishing; the average Uma Musume could easily hit 60 km/h on the track.

They loved to run. That passion had given birth to Tracen Academy, the prestigious institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation of racing legends.

In this life, both of Yasui's parents were deeply connected to the academy. His father was a local trainer, and his mother a retired local Uma Musume. So when the time came, he didn't hesitate. He chose to become an Uma Musume trainer.

For someone who had once chased the absolute limits of the human body, nothing could be more exciting than watching beings who looked almost human yet possessed such overwhelming talent. He wanted to see just how far these Uma Musume could push themselves… and whether, by guiding them, he could break through the boundaries of humanity itself.

Relying on memories and skills from two lifetimes, he had been accepted into the Trainer Academy right after junior high. Immediately after graduation, he aced the Central exam and moved to Tokyo just a few months ago.

Most rookie trainers had to shadow seniors for years before getting their own contracts. Yasui Makoto, however, believed he didn't need to wait. His abilities weren't quite at the absolute peak of the industry yet, but they were easily first-class. Combined with the professional knowledge he had absorbed from his parents since childhood, he was confident he could guide Uma Musume who would shine brighter than anyone expected.

Of course, the industry didn't see it that way. In the short time since arriving in Tokyo, he had approached many Uma Musume… only to be politely turned down every single time.

Today had been another rejection. Perhaps a little distracted by that, while waiting at a red light he had spotted a child about to be hit by a car. Without thinking, he had rushed forward.

He saved the child… and got sent flying himself.

Not by the car, by a black-haired Uma Musume who had sprinted in to help at the last second.

Thanks to instincts honed from years of extreme stunts, he had adjusted his posture mid-air and avoided serious injury. He had tried to slip away quietly, but the Uma Musume who hit him was clearly terrified. She kept apologizing nonstop and insisted on taking him to the hospital for a check-up.

After refusing several times and seeing her determined "I'll follow you until you agree" expression, he had no choice but to come along.

He never expected that while the collision itself had been fine… coming to the hospital would land him in the hands of the eccentric Dr. Agnes Tachyon.

And now she looked like she genuinely wanted to dissect him alive.

While feeling a headache coming on, Yasui Makoto quietly began plotting his escape.

At that moment, after staring at him for a long while, Agnes Tachyon finally spoke in a slow, silky voice:

"As for other issues… it's hard to say for now. If any problems only show up after a few days, that would be troublesome. So, my suggestion is that Yasui-kun should stay here for observation for a little while. Also, a craniotomy for a more thorough examination might be—"

Yasui Makoto's scalp went numb. She really is planning to slice me open!

Before he could refuse, there was a loud BANG!

The door to the neurology examination room was slammed open with so much force the hinges screamed in protest.

A black-haired Uma Musume burst in, ears standing straight up in panic.

The moment she charged inside, the door handle let out a painful creeeak and a large chunk of the door panel was ripped clean off along with it.

"C-Craniotomy?! I-Is it that serious?!"

Under the surprised gaze of Agnes Tachyon and the stunned look of Yasui Makoto, the black-haired Uma Musume let out a cry. She then glanced down at the door handle still gripped tightly in her hand and at the gaping hole now in the door.

"S-Sorry! I-I was too reckless again…!"

She quickly hid the broken handle behind her back and bowed deeply, ears drooping in embarrassment.

"D-Doctor Agnes Tachyon, hello! M-My name is Kitasan Black! I'm a new first-year student at Central Tracen Academy this year! Please take care of me!"

She straightened up, eyes sparkling with determination despite the chaos she had just caused.

"I-I… anyway, I will take full responsibility for everything that happened to Mr. Yasui!"

Agnes Tachyon looked at the young Uma Musume and let out a soft, amused chuckle.

Youngsters these days sure are bold.
