Chapter 34 - One Slash, One CP9

Water 7 — Harbor

The ship belonging to CP9 was docked along the shore.

Spandine swaggered down the gangplank, a cigar dangling from his mouth. Behind him followed a large group of armed men—over a hundred soldiers—and among them were several figures radiating powerful auras.

CP9.

"Tom the Fish-Man… now that I've got something on you, there's no way you're escaping me this time!"

Spandine sneered arrogantly. Though cowardly by nature, he was cunning—and in this incident, he saw a perfect opportunity for promotion.

"Listen up, all of you!" he barked. "Go to Tom's Workers and arrest that criminal! Let's see how he escapes this time!"

His eyes were cold and ruthless.

As the soldiers surged into the town, the once orderly streets descended into chaos. The residents of Water 7 panicked, afraid of being caught in the fallout.

"What's going on? Why are the World Government forces here all of a sudden?"

"They're going after Tom… did he break the rules?"

"…What a shame. He should've been a legendary shipwright—but now it ends like this…"

The citizens whispered anxiously, many of them feeling sympathy for Tom.

As fellow craftsmen, they understood all too well the bitterness behind his situation.

Tom's Workers

After working through the night, a brand-new ship now stood before Ren Kuro.

"Tom-san… as expected of the world's greatest shipwright."

Ren Kuro slowly circled the vessel, genuine admiration in his eyes.

"This ship is flawless."

"This ship is built from Treasure Tree Adam," Tom said, gently placing a hand on the hull. His expression was as soft as if he were looking at his own child. "It's incredibly durable—able to withstand immense pressure. And with my modifications, even the fiercest storms won't shake it."

"Tom-san… it's an honor to become this ship's owner."

Ren Kuro spoke sincerely.

"No need for thanks," Tom replied with a smile. "Just don't disappoint me. Become a man who can stand alongside Roger."

"…Of course."

"Ah, right," Tom added. "Since it's yours now, why not give it a name?"

"A name…"

Ren Kuro paused for a moment.

Then his eyes lit up.

"Got it."

"Let's call it—Soul Society."

"…Soul Society?" Tom frowned slightly, not quite understanding.

"It's the homeland of my companions," Ren Kuro explained with a smile. "I want this ship to carry us across every corner of the Grand Line."

"…I see."

Tom nodded.

"That's a fine name."

Outside — Chaos Erupts

At that moment, a disturbance broke out beyond the workshop.

"…Damn it. They're here." Tom's expression changed instantly. "The World Government."

"Looks like CP9 finally showed up."

Ren Kuro glanced out the window and quickly spotted Spandine among the crowd.

"That idiot hasn't changed at all."

"Death… you should hide." Tom said anxiously. "They're clearly here for me."

"No need."

Ren Kuro's lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile.

"They're nothing but a pack of rabble."

"Let Kenpachi handle it."

Outside the Workshop

Spandine led his troops forward aggressively—

but the moment he saw the three figures standing before the workshop…

his face drained of all color.

"Th-That's impossible!"

His voice trembled as he pointed ahead.

"Poison Blade… and… Cherry Blossom?! What are these monsters doing here?!"

Faced with two pirates with bounties exceeding 500 million, even speaking became difficult for him.

"Oh my… looks like some unlucky fellows just walked in."

Gin Ichimaru smiled as he looked at Spandine.

"Ren Kuro gave the order," Byakuya said coldly as he drew his Zanpakutō. "Anyone from the World Government is to be executed."

"Move aside, Byakuya."

Kenpachi Zaraki stepped forward, resting his sword on his shoulder.

"Perfect timing."

"It's been too long since I've had a proper fight."

He strode into the center of the open ground.

"Hey, you World Government dogs—"

"My name is Kenpachi Zaraki."

"I'm here to kill you."

He tore open his shirt, exposing his chest, and roared with savage excitement:

"Come on! Attack me! If you can cut me down, even better!"

"…Is this guy insane?"

Spandine's expression twisted. He had never seen this man in any intelligence report.

But with overwhelming numbers on his side—

he still gave the order.

"You dare mock the World Government?!"

"Kill him!"

"Yes, sir!"

All of CP9 stepped forward at once.

And the massacre began.

Moments Later

Spandine was on his knees.

His head hung low, but his violently trembling body made his terror obvious.

"P-Please… don't kill me…"

He didn't even dare look Kenpachi in the eye.

"So this is the chief of CP9?"

Kenpachi snorted in disdain.

"Pathetic trash."

Even as he was insulted to his face, Spandine could only nod frantically like a terrified animal.

"You're not even worth my blade."

Kenpachi grabbed him by the collar—

and threw him aside like garbage.

BANG—

Spandine slammed into the ground, pain surging through his entire body.

"Please! Spare me!" he begged desperately. "I'll do anything! I'll pretend Tom never built a ship—I'll erase everything!"

His voice trembled with absolute fear.

His subordinates—

those elite CP9 agents—

had been nothing more than paper before that man.

Each swing of the blade—

claimed a life.

One slash.

One CP9.

That overwhelming, absolute violence—

had shattered Spandine's mind completely.
