Flashback-
I stepped into the cozy cafe, the warm scent of fresh coffee and pastries wrapping around me like a comforting hug.
My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Grayson near the window.
Sunlight streamed in, catching his features just right. He was scrolling on his phone, looking relaxed.
As I approached, he glanced up.His eyes widened, and his phone slipped from his hand, clattering onto the table.
He stood up quickly,a soft smile breaking across his face.
"Woah...you look beautiful,"he said,his voice genuine.
Heat rushed to my cheeks.I brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear, trying to hide my blush." Thank you".
"Please, have a seat,"he offered, pulling out the chair for me like gentlemen.
I sat down, feeling a flutter in my stomach as we started talking. The conversation flowed easily-light and light, with him making me laugh more than I expected.
Then it happened.
A group of three guys walked by our table, their voices loud and mocking. One of smirked.Loud and enough for everyone nearby to hear.
"Guys,look-she must have hypnotized Grayson".
Another chimed in with a sneer "hey Grayson you should run away. She's a witch".
I felt my stomach drop.I looked down at my hands, the familiar sting of embarrassment washing over me.He wouldn't stand up for me.
I thought.No one ever does.
But before I could even process it,Grayson shot to his feet. His fist connected with the guy who'd called me a witch-sharp and fast.
"I dare you to say that again,"Grayson growled, his voice lows and steady.
The other two guys quickly helped their friend off the ground, muttering curses as they scrambled away, shooting nervous glances over their shoulder.
Grayson turned back to me,his expression softening instantly."Are you okay, Astrid? ".
I nodded still slightly stunned. " Thank you"I whispered surprised that he actually stood up for me.For the first in a long time, someone had my back. And if felt different.Good different.
