Chapter 3 - The CGS.

Yama appeared before his throne.

It was… an office chair.

The headquarters of Contractor General Services (CGS) buzzed with life—papers shuffling, phones ringing, contracts being signed across unseen planes of existence. It looked less like the domain of death and more like a corporate nightmare.

A young girl appeared before Yama.

For a moment, she was small, fragile—Hoshi.

Then she transformed.

Her body stretched, matured, reshaped into that of a woman in her thirties. Her presence sharpened, her aura deepened.

She was now Raga.

"Good job, Miss Raga. This was the last one, I suppose."

Yama glanced down at the clipboard resting on his desk. Hundreds of names filled the pages—lives, fates, endings.

His pen hovered for a second.

Then—

Tick.

The final name: Ritsu Kaminagi.

Marked.

A quiet finality settled in the room.

Yama suddenly grabbed his face.

And tore it off.

Skin peeled like a mask. His expression, his very identity, came away in one clean motion.

Underneath—

Someone else.

The man in disguise stretched his neck slightly, as if relieved to breathe properly again. He reached for the telephone on the desk and dialed.

A click.

"Hello, is Yama there? Tell him the problem of a universe without a Death God has been solved temporarily—but the kidnapped Death Gods still need to be found. We need his help."

On the other end, a man named Chitra paused.

"…Okay. Great Enforcer—or what should I call you?"

The man leaned back in the chair, thinking.

"Hmm. I never had a human name before." He chuckled, eyes drifting toward the bookshelf. "Let me make one."

A book spine caught his attention.

A slow smile formed.

"From now on… you can call me Arlo Finagle."

"Mr. Finagle, Sir Yama will be with you instantly," Chitra replied before hanging up.

A knock echoed at the office door.

"May I come in?"

Arlo smirked. "Yes, please. Be our guest."

The door creaked open.

The real Yama stepped inside.

Old. Calm. Watching.

"I hear you needed my help. What can this old man do for you, Great Enforcer?"

Arlo leaned back casually, crossing his legs.

"Yeah. We've arranged substitute Death Gods. Now tell the remaining ones to come out of hiding." He paused, then added with a grin, "And call me Arlo, old man."

Yama's expression didn't change, but his voice carried weight.

"Even I am in hiding. A mad immortal is wreaking havoc across universes—kidnapping Death Gods to erase death itself from existence."

A brief silence.

Then—

Arlo stood.

"Don't worry. I'll go deal with her myself."

Yama exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing ever so slightly.

"Before that…"

Arlo picked up the phone again and dialed.

"Hello, Loki. Come to my office."

Click.

A knock followed immediately.

"May I come in, sir?"

Arlo didn't even look up.

"Yeah, come—"

He stopped.

The door hadn't opened.

Instead, a flower vase sitting quietly in the corner… shimmered.

It twisted, warped—

—and became a man.

A young man in his twenties, grinning like he'd just played a perfect prank.

Loki.

Loki dusted off his sleeves casually.

"You called?"

Arlo didn't react.

Instead, he turned to his computer and connected it to the Book of Death and Life.

The screen flickered.

Data streamed.

Everyone gathered around.

There was an attachment below.

Arlo clicked it.

A video began to play.

He leaned back, completely relaxed.

"Raga, bring popcorn and chips. Don't forget cold drinks—fast, fast."

Raga blinked once.

Then turned and walked off without a word.

The others stared at the screen.

The "movie" began.

——————————————————————————————

ORIGIN — THE FALLEN PETAL MASSACRE

The screen stabilized.

A soft wind carried bamboo leaves across the frame.

Then—

Silence.

A peaceful sect appeared beneath the mountains: Fallen Petal Sect.

THE FALL BEFORE THE FALL

Disciples trained in open courtyards, their movements soft and flowing. Healing arts. Petal formations. Gentle cultivation.

No killing intent.

No enemies.

Only peace.

Hua Xiaolian moved through them like sunlight through mist.

She corrected a younger disciple's stance with a light tap.

"Focus your breath… not your fear."

Her younger brother ran past her laughing, carrying a glowing petal formation in his hands.

Her mother watched from the porch, smiling softly.

Her father stood beside her mother—quiet, proud, but always serious.

For the first time in cultivation history—

A sect like this existed without hatred.

But peace like this…

doesn't survive the world.

——————————————————————————————

THE BANQUET — AZURE SUMMIT SIGHTING

Gold.

Music.

Wine.

Masks of righteousness.

The Azure Summit Sect hosted its annual banquet.

Hua Xiaolian sat with her family among smaller sects, all carefully smiling, all carefully silent.

But eyes were already on her.

Whispers spread.

"That's the Flower Sect girl…"

"Beautiful…"

"Wasted on such a weak sect…"

At the highest seat:

Wei Tianpeng.

He saw her.

And did not look away.

Not even once.

THE GARDEN INCIDENT

Later that night.

Hua Xiaolian stepped into the garden alone.

Moonlight.

Still air.

A mistake.

Wei Tianpeng followed.

He blocked the exit immediately.

"I noticed you didn't bow earlier."

"I was leaving respectfully, Young Master Wei."

He stepped closer.

"Do you know how many women would kill to stand where you are right now?"

Her hand tightened.

"Let me pass."

A pause.

Then—

He grabbed her wrist.

Hard.

"Don't act special."

She resisted.

Petals formed instantly—sharp, glowing, lethal.

A flash of movement.

Wei Tianpeng screamed as petals carved across his face.

Blood splattered onto white stone.

He staggered back, clutching his ruined cheek.

"YOU BITCH—!"

Hua Xiaolian didn't hesitate.

She ran.

That moment…

sealed her fate.

——————————————————————————————

THE LIE

Wei Tianpeng returned first.

Not injured.

Not humbled.

But furious.

He collapsed dramatically before his father.

And lied.

"She seduced me."

"When I refused, she attacked me."

"She tried to assassinate me."

The Sect Master listened.

And believed.

Not because it was true—

But because it was convenient.

A decision was made.

Quietly.

Privately.

Cruelly.

They contacted the Blood Thorn Clan.

——————————————————————————————

THE FALL — FALLEN PETAL SIEGE

Three months later.

Night did not arrive.

It descended.

A talisman shattered above the sect gate.

Then—

Screams.

Hua Xiaolian woke to chaos.

"ENEMY ATTACK!"

Fire lit the sky.

Shadows dropped from above like falling knives.

The Blood Thorn Clan had arrived.

——————————————————————————————

HER FATHER

At the gate.

He stood alone.

"Run! Protect the inner sect!"

He fought like a wall.

Cutting down attackers.

Bleeding.

Refusing to fall.

Until—

A spear pierced his chest from behind.

He froze.

Looked down.

Then slowly collapsed.

——————————————————————————————

HER YOUNGER BROTHER

Inside the courtyard.

He was shaking.

"Sister… what's happening?"

Hua Xiaolian reached for him—

But never got there.

A blade passed through the air.

Clean.

Instant.

His head fell before his knees even gave out.

He never finished his sentence.

——————————————————————————————

HER MOTHER

She was dragged out of the healing hall.

Still trying to save wounded disciples.

"Stop resisting!" a Blood Thorn cultivator laughed.

She fought back.

Scratched.

Bit.

Screamed.

But they overwhelmed her.

Hua Xiaolian watched helplessly as her mother was pinned down.

Her scream tore through the sect—

Then slowly broke into silence.

Not death.

Not immediately.

Something worse.

Afterward, she was killed.

Left broken in the courtyard like discarded cloth.

——————————————————————————————

HER FRIENDS (SECT SISTERS)

Two of them.

Ages 17 and 18.

They tried to protect the inner library.

One formed a healing barrier.

The other tried to buy time.

They failed.

The barrier shattered.

They were dragged out.

Hua Xiaolian saw everything.

They were humiliated in front of the entire captured sect.

Mocked.

Broken.

And then—

Their cultivation cores were crushed.

Not killed immediately.

Left to suffer the collapse of their own life force.

They screamed until their voices disappeared.

Then silence.

——————————————————————————————

THE SPECTATOR

Hua Xiaolian herself—

Was pinned down by a sealing talisman.

Her body completely frozen.

She could only watch.

Only breathe.

Only exist inside horror.

"SISTER—!" she tried to scream.

No sound came.

Only trembling breath.

THE FINAL WORDS

The Blood Thorn leader walked up to her.

Crouched.

Smiling.

"Still alive?"

He leaned in.

"Good."

A pause.

Then—

"This is what happens when you humiliate Young Master Wei."

Her eyes widened.

He continued casually:

"He sends his regards."

Then the final insult—

"The righteous sect sends its thanks."

They left.

Not because they were merciful.

But because they wanted her to remember.

AFTERMATH

Silence returned.

Not peace.

Vacancy.

Hua Xiaolian's body finally regained movement.

She fell forward instantly.

Hands hit blood-soaked ground.

She crawled.

To her father.

Cold.

To her brother.

Still.

To her mother.

Unrecognizable.

To her friends.

Gone.

And then—

She buried them.

Not properly.

Not gently.

With broken nails.

Bleeding fingers.

Digging into ash and bone.

One grave.

Then another.

Then another.

Until sunrise.

When she finally stopped moving—

She stood in the center of their graves.

Empty.

Broken.

No tears left.

Only a voice that no longer belonged to a human.

"I will take everything from this world…"

A pause.

The wind stopped.

"…just as it took everything from me."
