Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8 — “THE ONE WHO DOESN’T NEED TO FIGHT”

The wind stopped.

It didn't slow down.

It didn't change direction.

It stopped.

Like the world was holding its breath.

Mike was still on his knees.

Blood running down his chin.

Uneven breathing.

But his gaze… wasn't on Lilith anymore.

It was far away.

— …he's here.

Lyra felt it first.

A shiver running up her spine.

— No… this is different.

Elion swallowed hard.

— This isn't just presence…

— It's weight.

Rivel finished.

Kael said nothing.

Just lowered his head slightly.

Respect.

Fear.

Maybe both.

Lilith felt it too.

She turned her head.

Slowly.

Not with curiosity.

But with attention.

And for the first time since she appeared…

she wasn't smiling.

Silence.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Firm.

There was no rush.

Because there didn't need to be.

Each step made the ground respond.

Not break.

Not shake.

Respond.

Like it recognized who was coming.

Mike tried to stand.

His legs failed.

— …not yet.

But he stood anyway.

Stubbornness.

Or courage.

Hard to tell.

— So this is the guy…

He said, low.

Kael answered without looking at him:

— Don't say it like that.

— Why?

Silence.

— Because you don't understand yet.

The steps stopped.

And he appeared.

No explosion.

No light.

No effect.

Just… presence.

The Monarch.

Simple clothes.

Dark.

Nothing flashy.

But impossible to ignore.

His gaze moved across the field.

Every detail.

Every body.

Every mark of destruction.

He saw everything.

And when it reached Lilith…

it stopped.

Silence.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

Even chaos seemed to have learned to wait.

— So…

His voice came out calm.

— it was you.

Lilith tilted her head.

Observing.

— Yes.

Simple.

Direct.

Like there was no reason to lie.

The Monarch took another step.

— Interesting.

— He's way too calm…

Lyra whispered.

— He always is.

Kael answered.

— That's not good.

Lilith took a step too.

The air reacted.

But this time—

it wasn't dominant.

It was… measured.

Like she was testing something different.

— You learn.

The Monarch said.

Not a question.

A statement.

Lilith answered:

— Yes.

— Too fast.

Silence.

— That's rare.

Mike looked.

Confused.

— He's not going to attack?

— No.

Kael answered.

— He's already fighting.

Silence.

Lilith moved.

Fast.

Much faster than before.

But the Monarch didn't move.

Not even an inch.

She appeared in front of him.

Direct strike.

And stopped.

Midair.

Without touching.

Like she had hit an invisible barrier.

— …what?

The impact didn't happen.

The strike didn't land.

It just…

wasn't allowed.

Absolute silence.

Lilith looked at her own hand.

Confused.

First time.

The Monarch looked at her.

Calm.

— You learn.

He took a step.

And the space around her… gave in.

Didn't explode.

Didn't break.

Gave in.

Like it had been corrected.

She stepped back.

Instinct.

— She stepped back…

Lyra whispered.

— For real this time.

Lilith analyzed.

Faster now.

Much faster.

And attacked again.

Full sequence.

Absurd speed.

Perfect movements.

Everything she had learned so far.

But the result—

was the same.

Nothing.

No strike landed.

No impact happened.

The Monarch remained still.

— This doesn't make sense…

Elion said.

— It does.

Rivel answered.

— He's not blocking.

Silence.

— He's deciding.

The air got heavier.

The Monarch raised his hand.

Slowly.

Unhurried.

Lilith stopped.

Instinct.

Something inside her recognized it.

Danger.

Real.

Mike felt it.

— …it's over now.

But the Monarch didn't attack.

Not yet.

He looked at her.

For real.

Like he was analyzing something important.

— You haven't reached it yet.

Silence.

— But you will.

And then—

he lowered his hand.

— Let's do this properly.

The world… responded. The silence wasn't fear anymore.

It was respect.

Lilith didn't move forward.

She observed.

Learning.

Once again.

But this time—

something was different.

The Monarch let out a small sigh.

— You're fast.

He scratched his head lightly.

— Almost makes me lazy.

Silence.

Lyra blinked.

— …is he joking?

Kael answered low:

— Don't get fooled.

The Monarch took another step.

Lilith reacted.

But this time—

she hesitated.

A microsecond.

And that was enough.

The space around her… closed.

Not as an attack.

As a limit.

— Alright.

The Monarch said.

— enough testing.

He raised his hand.

And stopped.

Looked to the side.

— Hey.

Mike froze.

— …me?

— Yeah.

Silence.

Everyone watching.

— You're the most dangerous one here.

Mike blinked.

— Me…?

— Yeah.

The Monarch gave a small smile.

— And that's a problem.

Mike frowned.

— Thanks… I guess?

— No, that's not a compliment.

He pointed lightly.

— What you do… isn't normal magic.

Silence.

— You believe… and the world agrees.

Mike stayed quiet.

— But there's a detail.

The Monarch tilted his head slightly.

— the world doesn't like being forced for too long.

Silence.

— If you push it too far…

He shrugged.

— eventually it pushes back.

Mike swallowed.

— And it won't be pretty.

For the first time…

Mike got serious.

— So what do I do?

The Monarch smiled slightly.

— learn to stop.

Silence.

— before you have to.

Lilith moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

Now without hesitation.

Straight at the Monarch.

— Talk later.

He said calmly.

And raised his hand.

And then—

it happened.

A point of light appeared.

Small.

Inside her.

Absolute silence.

— …that's—

Elion froze.

— no…

Mike's eyes widened.

— he created… that inside her?

Lilith reacted.

Tried to get out.

But she couldn't.

Because it wasn't external.

It was internal.

The Monarch snapped his fingers.

And a field appeared.

Around everything.

Protecting.

Containing.

— Hold.

He said.

And the world obeyed.

The point of light grew.

Turned into heat.

Turned into pressure.

Turned into a sun.

Small.

But impossible.

Lilith tried to react.

But she couldn't.

Because there was nothing to copy.

No pattern.

No time.

— This isn't force.

The Monarch said.

— It's decision.

And then—

it exploded.

Not outward.

Inward.

The field held everything.

But the impact…

even contained…

made the ground tremble.

The air scream.

Space… bend.

Silence.

When the light faded—

nothing remained.

Just a mark.

Deep.

Heavy.

Real.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

The Monarch exhaled.

— Done.

Like he had solved something simple.

He looked at Mike again.

— And you.

Mike froze.

— you're going to be trouble.

But this time…

he smiled.
