Chapter 92: Emergency Contract Meeting
The morning after the dramatic 5-4 away win, Alex Rivera arrived at the Galaxy first-team headquarters feeling a mix of exhaustion and quiet satisfaction. The victory had been one of the most memorable in recent club history, and his hat-trick plus two assists had made him the undisputed hero of the night. The crowd had chanted his name for nearly fifteen minutes after the final whistle, and the media had already dubbed the comeback "The Rivera Miracle."
But the club was moving fast for a different reason.
David Kessler, his newly appointed agent, had called him late the previous night. "The club wants an emergency meeting tomorrow morning. They're worried about the Europe rumors and want to lock you down with a new contract before any bigger offers come in. This is urgent, Alex. Be ready. I'll be there with you."
Alex walked into the modern conference room on the top floor of the facility. The walls were glass, offering a panoramic view of the training pitches. David Kessler was already there, along with the club's sporting director, the head of legal, and the club president. The atmosphere was professional but tense.
Kessler stood up and shook Alex's hand firmly. "Good to see you, Alex. You were incredible yesterday. That hat-trick and the two assists turned a losing game into a win. The whole league is talking about you. I'm here to make sure we get the best possible deal for you."
The club president, a middle-aged man in a sharp suit, smiled and gestured for Alex to sit. "Alex, first of all, congratulations. Your performance yesterday was special. You came on when we were 0-4 down and single-handedly turned the game into a 5-4 victory. That kind of impact is rare. The fans are chanting your name, the media is calling you the 'rise of a star', and European clubs are already asking questions. That's why we're here today."
The sporting director leaned forward, his expression serious. "Let me show you the current standings so you understand the urgency."
He slid a printed Western Conference table across the table.
Western Conference Standings (Current)
Seattle Sounders – 52 pointsLAFC – 50 pointsHouston Dynamo – 48 pointsMinnesota United – 47 pointsReal Salt Lake – 46 pointsLA Galaxy – 46 points (one point above the playoff line)Portland Timbers – 45 points (game in hand)Vancouver Whitecaps – 44 pointsAustin FC – 42 pointsColorado Rapids – 41 pointsFC Dallas – 40 pointsSporting Kansas City – 38 pointsSan Jose Earthquakes – 36 pointsSt. Louis City SC – 34 points
The sporting director pointed at the table. "We are in sixth place — just one single point above the playoff cut-off line. Portland has a game in hand. A loss in the next few games could drop us out of the playoffs entirely. We are barely surviving. Your recent performances have shown us that you are not just a prospect — you are already a first-team player who can change games. We don't want to lose you. That's why we're offering an emergency contract renewal right now."
The head of legal slid a thick folder across the table. "This is a new two-year permanent first-team contract. We want to lock you in for the rest of this season and the next. The salary will be significantly increased to match the top young players in the league. We're also adding performance bonuses, image rights, and a buy-out clause that protects both sides."
Kessler took over, speaking slowly and clearly so Alex could follow every detail.
"Let me walk you through it step by step. First, the base salary. Currently, you are on a youth-level deal. The new contract raises your base salary to $1.2 million per year for the first year, increasing to $1.8 million in the second year. This puts you among the highest-paid 15-year-olds in MLS history. On top of that, we have performance bonuses: $100,000 for every 5 goals or assists, $250,000 if the team makes the playoffs, $500,000 if we win the MLS Cup, and additional bonuses for winning the Supporters' Shield or the U.S. Open Cup. Image rights are also included — 50% of any endorsement deals you sign will go to you directly. The club will help facilitate those deals."
The sporting director added, "We're also including a buy-out clause. For European clubs, it's set at €50 million. That's high enough to protect the club but realistic if a big club comes in for you in the future. We don't want to stand in your way if a Premier League or La Liga team makes a serious offer, but we want to make sure you finish this season with us."
Kessler continued, "The contract is for two years, with an option for a third. It guarantees you first-team minutes if you perform. There are clauses for housing allowance, education support, and family travel. The club is motivated because they know Europe is watching. The leak about Premier League 2 interest has made them act fast. They don't want to lose you mid-season."
The club president leaned forward. "Alex, you have already proven you belong. Your hat-trick and two assists in the 5-4 win showed the league what you can do. We want to reward that loyalty and keep you here. This contract makes you a permanent first-team player. No more academy status. Full professional terms. We also want to discuss bonuses for winning major competitions. If we win the MLS Cup, there's a $1 million bonus for you. For the Supporters' Shield, $500,000. For the U.S. Open Cup or Leagues Cup, additional bonuses. We are in all of those competitions this season, and we believe you can help us win them."
Alex listened in silence, his mind processing every number. The money was life-changing. He thought about his family, about Emma, and about Sophia — the married MILF who had been deliberately showing off her body to him, assuming he was already rich or would be very soon. This contract would make him rich. It would give him the financial freedom to build the life he wanted in his second chance.
Kessler continued, "The contract is for two years, with an option for a third. The buy-out clause is €50 million for European clubs. We have also included clauses for image rights, endorsement deals, and a housing allowance. The club is committed to you, Alex."
The meeting continued for another hour, going through every clause in detail. Alex asked questions about the bonuses for winning the MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield, the U.S. Open Cup, the Leagues Cup, and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The club explained each competition and how the bonuses were tied to team success.
Alex took a deep breath and spoke calmly. "I appreciate this. I told my agent I want to stay and help the team reach the playoffs. We're in sixth place — one point above the line. I believe I can help us get there and maybe even win something this season. I'm happy to sign a two-year deal."
The meeting continued for another hour, going through every clause in detail. Alex asked questions about the bonuses, the buy-out clause, and the image rights. Kessler negotiated small improvements on the spot — raising some bonuses and adding a clause for a car allowance. The club agreed to everything.
By the end of the meeting, the contract was ready for final review. Kessler shook Alex's hand. "This is a strong deal, Alex. You're going to be very comfortable financially. The club is committed to you. We'll have the final document ready for signing in the next few days."
Alex left the meeting feeling a quiet sense of accomplishment. The contract renewal was moving fast because of his recent heroics and the Europe interest. He was going to get richer — on his own terms — while staying at Galaxy to help them fight for the playoffs.
He thought about Sophia again. She had been flirting with him, assuming he was already rich. This new contract would make that assumption even stronger. He smiled to himself.
The harem plans were moving forward in the background.
The future was taking shape.
