Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Celebration

The ball had barely settled in the back of the net when the entire Galaxy stadium erupted into pure chaos.

1–1

The roar was deafening — a wall of sound so loud it felt like the stands themselves were shaking. Twenty-eight thousand voices became one single, thunderous chant:

"ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE!"

The giant screens flashed his name and number 33 in bright white and blue over and over. Fireworks of noise rolled across every section. The floodlights seemed to burn even brighter as the crowd rose to their feet as one.

Alex Rivera stood in the middle of the pitch, arms wide, chest heaving, a wide, genuine smile breaking across his face for the first time all night. The free-kick he had promised his senior teammates he would score had just flown into the top corner exactly as he said it would. Number 33 had delivered.

Teammates sprinted toward him from every direction.

Captain Marco "El Rey" Delgado reached him first. He lifted Alex clean off the ground in a massive bear hug, screaming in his ear over the roar of the crowd, "You told us you would score it! You actually did it! Number 33! You fucking legend!"

The experienced striker who had honestly said he wasn't 100% sure piled on next, laughing and shouting, "Kid, you called your shot! You actually called it in front of all of us!"

Diego "The Beast" Torres crashed into the pile, followed by the entire attacking line. The celebration became a massive, chaotic dogpile of white and blue jerseys. Players were shouting, laughing, slapping Alex's back, ruffling his hair, and screaming his name. The pile grew bigger and bigger as more Galaxy players joined, jumping on top of him.

The crowd kept chanting louder and louder:

"ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE!"

It was no longer scattered. It was the entire stadium. The ultras in the south stand led it, and it spread like wildfire until every single section was screaming his name. The giant screens kept flashing 33 – A. RIVERA in massive letters. The commentator was still losing his mind on the live broadcast:

"What a moment! The 15-year-old substitute Alex Rivera steps up, tells his senior teammates he will score it, and then delivers a world-class free-kick! From 0-1 down to 1-1 in the 88th minute! The Inglewood kid has just saved his team's season in front of 28,000 fans! The stadium is rocking for number 33!"

Coach Victor Morales stood on the edge of the technical area clapping slowly, a rare, proud smile on his face. He pointed straight at Alex and gave him a firm thumbs-up. The message was clear: You did exactly what you said you would do, kid.

The referee finally blew his whistle to restart the game, but the crowd refused to stop chanting. "Ace! Ace! Ace!" echoed around the stadium for a full minute after the goal. The visitors looked stunned, heads down, trying to process what had just happened. Galaxy players were still patting Alex on the back as they slowly walked back to their positions, many of them still laughing and shaking their heads in disbelief.

Alex jogged back into the No. 10 role, legs feeling lighter than ever. The smile was still on his face, but his eyes were focused. The game was not over. They still needed to hold on for the draw.

88:30 – 90:00

The visitors kicked off angrily, desperate to regain the lead. They threw everything forward immediately, but Galaxy were now energized. The crowd was still chanting Alex's name every few seconds, giving the home team an extra lift.

Alex dropped deep to help defend. He won a crucial tackle in midfield, using his body to shield the ball before playing a quick pass out to the wing. The crowd cheered loudly for the young No. 33 even on a simple defensive action.

89:10

The visitors won a corner. The delivery was dangerous. A header flashed toward goal. The Galaxy keeper punched it away. Alex was first to the loose ball and immediately launched a counter-attack with a long, accurate pass up the field. The crowd roared again.

89:45

The visitors pushed one last time. A long ball over the top forced the Galaxy defence to turn and sprint. The striker took a touch and shot from the edge of the box. The keeper got down brilliantly to save it. The rebound fell loose, but Alex was there first, clearing it calmly up the field. The crowd chanted his name even louder.

The fourth official raised the board for added time.

4 minutes added

The stadium noise rose to a new level. The visitors were throwing players forward, but Galaxy were defending with everything they had. Alex dropped into a deeper role, helping the midfield screen. He won two more important tackles, using his speed and timing to stop dangerous counters.

90+2'

The visitors had one final chance. A cross came in from the right. The striker rose highest. The header was powerful, but the Galaxy keeper made a stunning save, pushing it around the post for a corner. The crowd erupted in relief.

90+3'

The corner was taken. The ball swung in dangerously. A visiting player headed it goalward. The keeper punched it away. Alex was first to the loose ball again and cleared it long up the field. The crowd cheered wildly for the young substitute who was defending like a veteran.

90+4'

The referee looked at his watch. The visitors tried one last desperate long ball. Alex tracked back, won the header cleanly, and played a simple pass to Delgado to run down the clock. The captain held the ball in the corner, wasting precious seconds.

The referee blew the final whistle.

Final Score: LA Galaxy 1 – 1 Opponent

The stadium exploded once more. Galaxy had earned the precious point they needed to stay above the playoff line. The crowd chanted "Ace! Ace! Ace!" louder than ever as the players celebrated on the pitch. Teammates mobbed Alex again. Delgado lifted him onto his shoulders. The entire squad formed a circle around the young No. 33, cheering and clapping.

Coach Morales walked onto the pitch and gave Alex a firm handshake and a pat on the back. "You did it, kid. You really did it."

Alex stood in the middle of the pitch, soaking in the noise, the lights, the moment. Number 33 had just announced himself to the entire stadium in the most dramatic way possible.

The night was over, but for Alex Rivera, it was only the beginning.
