Chapter 59 - Chapter 61:The Call That Crossed Distance

The name didn't fade.

It lingered.

Not in the air…

But inside her.

"Lyra…"

It echoed again—quieter this time, but closer.

She grabbed her chest sharply.

Darius tightened his hold on her. "Talk to me. What is it doing?"

Lyra shook her head, trying to steady her breathing.

"It's not just calling," she whispered.

"It's… reaching."

Far in the southern borderlands—

The fragment stood still, its ember-like eyes glowing brighter.

The shadows around it pulsed.

Then stretched.

Not outward randomly—

But in a direction.

Toward her.

Back at the temple, every torch flickered at once.

The air pressure dropped.

A low hum spread through the walls like something dragging its fingers across reality itself.

The warriors below froze.

"What's happening now—?"

"It's not an attack," one of the elders said, voice trembling.

"It's a connection."

Lyra's knees nearly gave out.

Darius pulled her closer. "Break it."

"I can't," she said, her voice strained.

"It's not forcing me…"

A pause.

"I'm responding to it."

That was worse.

Inside her mind,

Darkness opened.

Not empty.

Waiting.

And in that space…

She saw it.

The fragment.

Not fully formed. Not complete. But aware.

Watching her the same way she was seeing it.

No distance.

No barrier.

"You're… different," the fragment said.

Its voice was clearer now. Still broken—but learning.

Lyra didn't speak out loud.

She didn't need to.

"So are you," she replied within the link.

Outside, Darius saw it—

Her eyes.

Silver… and black.

Perfectly split.

"Lyra, stay with me," he said, more firmly now.

But she was already somewhere else.

"You are not whole," Lyra said to it.

The fragment tilted its head slightly.

"Neither… are you."

That hit deeper than she expected.

A pulse of energy surged through the connection—

And suddenly—

Lyra gasped violently as she was thrown back into her body.

The link snapped.

Silence.

Heavy.

Unnatural.

Darius steadied her. "What did it do?"

Lyra stared ahead, breathing hard.

"It didn't attack me…"

A pause.

"It recognized me."

The room felt colder.

Then one of the scouts burst into the hall.

"Alpha!" he shouted, breathless.

"We just received word from the outer watch—"

He hesitated.

"They're reporting movement in the southern forest."

Darius's expression darkened. "How far?"

The scout swallowed.

"Closer than it should be."

Lyra slowly stood on her own.

"No," she said quietly.

"It's not coming closer."

She looked toward the horizon.

Her voice dropped.

"It's coming for me."

Far away—

The fragment moved again.

Faster this time.

More stable.

More certain.

Each step bending the land further to its will.

And as it traveled—

More shadows began to gather behind it.

Not fragments.

Not yet.

But something forming.
