An atmosphere full of mixed feelings, Darwin unable to sleep, darts in and out in his room. It's 5:30pm, a time Darwin used to go to bed in order to be able to wake up from his sleep to study. This time he's up for a reason. Mrs. Cheryl knocks on Darwin her son's door but he didn't respond. Darwin was still moving up and down with his headphone on playing music at a high volume. Darwin's mom upon waiting for a long time decided to enter the room. Upon entering she smiled and watched Darwin browsing through the internet.
Tonight Darwin gets to know his fate whether he joins his friends to continue his education in the university or he joins the army, specifically Marine Corps Or th West Atlantic States (WAS). At exactly 6:30pm news of the release of school results were in and fortunately SAT results were also published.
This made Darwin very anxious than ever. Mrs. Cheryl then said, ' Darwin why are you fretting. I went through the same system. Now I am a certified neurosurgeon.'
Darwin untouched by the words of his mother continues to dart in and out in his room. His mom moves towards him and grabs his hand. She then suggests he brings his laptop so they can check his results and school placement as well.
Then Darwin returned to her side after picking up the laptop.
He said, 'Mom , could you please check for me.' with out questioning Darwin's request Mrs. Cheryl does exactly so...
(Mrs. Cheryl enters the details and follows prompts)
(silence....)
Suddenly she shrieks saying,'Yeh!'
Darwin confused about the occurrence dashes towards the screen. To his amazement he passed with flying colours obtaining all A's and in the SAT he had a pass mark of 1580. Several Universities he applied for wanted to have him in their schools. After seeing this, he lied on his bed with relief and slept. This was a milestone in the Kumi's family, a feat no one in their town had ever obtained.
A loud sound roared above Mr. And Mrs. Kumi s house. This caused Darwin to jerk out of his bed and move to the kitchen only to be welcomed with a loud music. It turned out to be the song 'Congratulations' by Post Malone. He pondered on what just happened and thought, ' Am I in another dream?'
Darwin tapped his dad who was nearby and asked him, 'What's going on?' Mr Calton took the laptop and playfully showed him what he thought he had dreamt. Darwin then said, 'How is this possible.' Mrs. Cheryl then told Darwin to go upstairs and freshen up. When Darwin was done he came downstairs and to his amazement all the promises made by his parents made by his parents had been fulfilled. On the table were packages wrapped of which he unwrapped each to reveal the gifts. In it were Apple products, new headphones, a Play Station and his favourite the least Nintendo Switch. He then hugged his parents tightly. The rest of the days in the Motherland was all about playing, adventure and making memories with his friends and loved ones.
Darwin's adventure was cut short as he received a call from the embassy of West Atlantic States to see to the completion of his WAS application.
He had been accepted at the University of Eland on a full-time scholarship to read Computer Science.
Darwin was filled with happiness and anticipating how life would be in the other world. Everything Darwin needed, from visa, passport and even ticket was ready. It was now time for mum and dad to preach some advice to our young Darwin.
Mrs. Cheryl started by saying, "My son you've made us proud...(continued with all the advice)"...
Mr. Cheryl then took over from where his wife left off saying, "Never forget to make us proud and never ever forget your roots, my dear son."
They shed tears, hugged and Darwin had his last Motherland meal there which was the 'Almighty Waakye' Mrs. Cheryl made at home.
Mum's last words to Darwin were, " Always remember to come home".
They then packed Darwin's luggage into the trunk and set off to the airport.
