Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 15

MR MAXWELL SENIOR WAR ROOM

In the silent, glass-walled office of Sterling-Global, Mr Maxwell Senior wasn't looking at architectural blueprints. He was staring at a wall of monitors.

His private security team had been running a deep-dive investigation into the "chaos" at the Royal Institute.

"Report," Mr Maxwell Senior commanded, his voice cold.

"Sir," his head of security began, "the sabotage attempts against your son's production were traced back to Julian, a 200-level Engineering student.

He attempted to breach the project's local servers and leaked doctored footage to the campus tabloids.

However..." the man paused, "your son's team—specifically a student named Kamsi—didn't just block him.

They dismantled his entire digital footprint. Julian is currently facing a total academic blacklisting."

Mr Maxwell Senior leaned back, his eyes narrowing.

He watched the official trailer for "ONLY WANT YOU", which had just dropped and was already shattering viewership records.

He saw his son, Massimo, on screen—not as a student, but as a king.

And he saw Gemini, the boy whose presence was the literal heart of the footage.

"So," Mr Maxwell Senior murmured, "my son is playing at being a mogul while his 'Quartet' plays at being a private army.

They're protecting someone who doesn't belong in their world. This isn't a career, it's a distraction."

"The Scandal at the Gates"

On campus, the "ONLY WANT YOU" trailer had turned the school into a frenzy.

But with fame came the venom.

Anonymous threads were popping up every hour, accusing Massimo of using his father's wealth to "buy" his way into the industry and claiming Gemini was a "social climber" who had manipulated the elite group.

The pressure was mounting.

Clara had already been called into the Dean's office twice regarding the "Biohazard incident", and the Engineering faculty was questioning Massimo's "academic focus."

"The Call from the Throne"

Back at the lodge, the air was thick with the scent of coffee and anxiety. Massimo's phone rang.

The screen displayed a single word that made everyone freeze: MOTHER.

Massimo stepped away from the group, his face a mask of iron. "Mother."

"Massimo, I've been watching the numbers," Lady Isabella's voice was calm, but there was a tremor of warning beneath it.

"The trailer is a masterpiece. But your father is not looking at the art. He's looking at the liability.

He knows about the digital war with Julian. He knows about the 'Quartet' and their little laboratory rebellion."

"I have it under control," Massimo said, his eyes finding Gemini across the room.

"You don't," she countered sharply. "Your father has a business trip scheduled near the Institute tomorrow—a final meeting with the Board of Regents.

He intends to discuss the 'disciplinary standing' of your friends. He wants to end this before it ruins the Sterling name."

Massimo's jaw tightened. "What are you proposing?"

"I've convinced him to let me handle it first," Isabella said.

"We are staying at the Grand Plaza. I am inviting you and the girls—Clara and Kamsi—out for a private dinner tomorrow night.

Your father wants to see if your 'team' is as formidable as the reports say."

"The Spicy Exclusion"

Massimo paused, waiting for the other name. "And Gemini?"

"No," Isabella said firmly. "Not Gemini. Not yet.

Your father has seen enough of him on a screen. If Gemini comes now, your father will only see a target.

I want to meet the women who are guarding your flank first. I want to see if they are loyal to you, or just to the 'production.'"

Massimo hung up, his blood boiling. He walked back to the group, his eyes dark.

"They're coming," Massimo stated. "My parents.

My father is coming to investigate the scandal, and my mother has invited me, Clara, and Kamsi to dinner at the Grand Plaza."

Clara looked up, her eyes flashing. "And Gemini? He's the lead. Why isn't he invited?"

"Because," Massimo said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper, "they think if they can peel the three of you away from him, he'll just... disappear.

They want to see if the 'Power Quartet' has a breaking point."

"The Twist: Kamsi's Discovery"

As the group began to argue, Kamsi suddenly slammed her laptop shut. "Wait. I just found the leak.

The person who gave your father the internal server logs? It wasn't Julian."

Everyone turned.

"It was someone from the production's financing department," Kamsi revealed, her face pale.

"Someone your father hired to 'monitor' the budget.

They've been tracking every move Gemini makes—his home address, his family's bank accounts, everything."

Massimo's expression turned lethal. He looked at Gemini, who was standing quietly by the window.

"They aren't just coming for a dinner, Clara," Massimo realized.

"They're coming to see how much it costs to make Gemini go away.

And tomorrow night, we're going to show them that some things aren't for sale."

"The Unexpected Warmth"

The night at the Grand Plaza was not the cold, corporate execution Massimo had feared.

Instead, the "Orchid Room" felt like a sanctuary of velvet and gold, where the scent of lilies and expensive wine hung heavy in the air.

Where the lines between "business" and "family" finally began to blur.

When Clara and Kamsi walked in, flanked by a tense Massimo, they were prepared for a cross-examination.

Instead, they found Lady Isabella standing by the window, her silk gown shimmering like moonlight.

"Clara, dear," Isabella said, moving forward with a grace that silenced the room.

She didn't offer a stiff handshake; she took Clara's hands in hers, her eyes warm.

"I've heard about your 'defense' of the lab.

My son usually surrounds himself with blueprints and silicon, but he finally found someone with fire. I like fire."

Clara, usually the first to snap at an authority figure, felt her defenses melt. Isabella was looking at her like a daughter.

Massimo sat stiffly, his eyes darting between his father's unreadable expression and the two women sitting across from them.

He had expected a trial. Instead, he was witnessing a seduction—one of intellect and grace.

"The Table of Truth"

As the dinner began, even Mr Maxwell Senior seemed to soften.

He watched the way Kamsi meticulously explained the security protocols she'd built for the production, and he saw the way Clara spoke about the ethics of their microbiology research.

"You aren't just his friends," Mr Maxwell Senior noted, his voice a low rumble, devoid of its usual sharpness. "You are his foundation."

Isabella leaned in, her voice sweet and generous. "Maxwell, look at them. They aren't 'distractions.'

They are the reason our son has stopped looking at the world as a series of equations and started seeing it as a home."

Lady Isabella wasn't what Clara expected.

Instead she was warmth wrapped in strategy.

She leaned toward Clara, her silk sleeves fluttering like butterfly wings.

"I read your abstract on antibiotic resistance, Clara," Isabella said, her voice a warm honey.

"To defend a lab with such... physical conviction? That tells me you don't just study science. You believe in it.

We need more believers in the Sterling fold."

Clara, who usually held her tongue like a weapon, found herself exhaling.

She saw in Isabella not a socialite, but a strategist who recognized her own fire.

By the time the appetizers were cleared, Isabella was laughing at Clara's stories of campus chaos, treating the "Lab Queen" like a long-lost daughter.

"The Pivot: The Missing Piece"

The dinner shifted from a formal meeting to something deeply personal.

Isabella turned the conversation to Gemini. She spoke of his performance in the trailer—not as a producer, but as a mother who saw how much her son had changed because of him.

"Clara," Isabella whispered, leaning across the table, "Massimo listens to you. He trusts your judgment more than anyone's.

Tell me... is he happy? Truly?"

Clara looked at Massimo, then back at the woman who was being more of a mother to them in one night than the Institute had been.

"He's more than happy, Ma'am," Clara said softly.

"He's found his soul.

And Gemini... Gemini is the one holding it safe."

"Mr Maxwell Surrenders"

Mr Maxwell Senior remained a mountain of a man, but the jagged edges of his temper had been smoothed by the atmosphere.

He watched Kamsi—who was calmly explaining the encryption she used to bury Julian's digital footprint—with a look that bordered on professional respect.

"You're wasted in a standard CS curriculum," Mr Maxwell grunted, though his eyes held a glimmer of pride.

"My security team couldn't even trace the origin of the leak once you scrambled the nodes.

You have a future at Sterling-Global, girl. If you want it."

Kamsi nodded, her usual stoicism replaced by a quiet confidence.

"I'll take the job, sir. But only if I get to pick my own team."

"A Family, Not a Meeting"

Massimo watched in awe as his mother began discussing the "ONLYWANT YOU" production not as a business liability, but as a family legacy.

"Massimo," Isabella said, taking a sip of vintage red, "your father and I have talked.

The school is buzzing with nonsense. They see a 'scandal.' We see a revolution.

Tomorrow, we aren't going to the Board of Regents to demand an end to this.

We are going there to announce the Sterling-Clara Research Endowment."

The table went silent. Massimo's heart skipped. "You're backing them?"

"We're backing all of you," Mr Maxwell added, his voice heavy and certain.

"The Quartet stays together. If the school has a problem with who you arrive at the gates with, they can take it up with my legal department."

"The Missing Diamond"

Despite the warmth, the empty chair next to Massimo felt like a physical ache. Isabella noticed.

She reached across the table and patted Massimo's hand, her eyes shifting to Clara for confirmation.

"We didn't invite Gemini tonight," Isabella whispered, loud enough for the table to hear, "not because he isn't welcome, but because a Diamond needs a setting.

We wanted to make sure the setting—this family—was ready for him.

Clara, you spend the most time with him. Tell me... does he know how much he's changed my son?"

Clara smiled, a genuine, soft expression. "He knows, Ma'am.

But I think he's waiting for permission to believe it's real."

"He has it," Isabella declared, her voice sweet yet final.

"Tomorrow, we go to the Institute. Not as benefactors, but as a united front.

And I want to meet this boy who has turned my son into a man of honor."

"The Family Pact"

The dinner lasted for hours.

There were no checkbooks and no threats of expulsion.

By the time dessert arrived, the "Power Quartet" (minus one) and the Sterling parents looked like a family discussing their future over a Sunday meal.

Isabella took a sip of her wine, her eyes sparkling.

"Massimo, your father and I have decided. The scandal at the school ends tomorrow. We aren't going to the Regents to punish your friends.

We are going there to announce a new Sterling-Global Research Wing—one that will be headed by Clara and secured by Kamsi."

"The Spicy Twist: The Secret Mission"

But the real "spice" happened as the dinner concluded. Isabella pulled Clara and Kamsi aside, away from the men.

"I didn't invite Gemini tonight for a reason," Isabella whispered, her eyes flashing with a playful, protective light.

"I wanted to see if you two were strong enough to keep his secrets.

You passed.

"Now," she reached into her clutch and pulled out a small, velvet box and a private jet flight itinerary.

"Tomorrow, we aren't just going to the school. We are going to find Gemini. And we are going to make sure he knows he doesn't just have a lead role... he has a family.

"The Night's End"

As they left the Grand Plaza, Massimo felt a weight lift off his shoulders.

He looked at Clara and Kamsi—the two women who had navigated the lion's den and come out as sisters to the Queen.

"She really liked you," Massimo said, amazed.

"Of course she did," Clara smirked, though her eyes were misty. "She's a mother, Max.

She knows brilliance when she sees it. Now, let's go home. We have a Diamond to protect."

As they walked out of the Grand Plaza, the city lights felt brighter.

Massimo looked at Clara and Kamsi, who were walking ahead, talking to Isabella about everything from microbiology to fashion.

It wasn't an "outsider meeting" anymore.

The walls of the Ivory Tower hadn't just been breached; they had been rebuilt into a home.

"They're actually going to help us," Kamsi whispered, her eyes wide.

"No," Clara corrected, looking back at Massimo with a smirk. "They're going to help him.

We're just the fire that made them look."

Some people… walk into it.

And that's where the danger begins.

As the Sterling name casts its shadow over the Institute,

old systems begin to crack.

Rules bend.

Truths shift.

But somewhere in the middle of it all—

a single question rises:

Who gave Gemini the right to stand beside a king?

A quiet investigation begins.

A sealed record is reopened.

And a past long buried… starts breathing again.

Because in a world like this—

you don't just earn your place.

You survive it.
