Theon was frozen for a minute before her words registered in his head and he nodded quickly. "Yes…we can talk."
Azaria remained standing beside his desk, her fingers still hovering near the nameplate as she tried to steady her breathing. The silence between them felt heavy and thick with weeks of unspoken grief, confusion, and fear. Theon looked at her from across the room, his grey eyes filled with longing that made her heart hammer wildly against her ribs. Driven by an intense urge to close the distance between them, he instinctively took a single step forward.
Azaria reacted immediately and her eyes widened as she took a sharp step backward, her hips pressing against the edge of the desk.
