Azaria's hand shook so violently that the branch rattled against the frozen air between them. "Stay away from me!"
The words echoed across the clearing before being swallowed by the snow-covered trees. Her chest rose and fell in frantic, and uneven breaths, each inhale caught painfully in her throat. Tears blurred her vision so badly that the figure standing several metres away was little more than an indistinct silhouette. Without her glasses, she couldn't make out his expression, only the outline of a man she no longer knew how to recognise.
Her free hand plunged desperately into the snow. "No... no..."
She swept her fingers across the snow on the ground, her sleeve quickly becoming soaked as she searched blindly. Where were they? They couldn't have gone far.
