THE PAST ....
" CAREFUL BOYS, ANY CLOSER AND THE WINDS WILL DRAG YOU INTO THE SEAS " The captain called from the deck as Avrernus pulled the rope in his hands as tightly as he could.
" VYYYKE " Arvernus ignored the captains call as the both lulled with all their might, dragging the flailing ropes back to the pulleys. " CAREFUL DON'T LET IT OUT OF YOUR HANDS "
" I KNOW " Terrible rains buffeted them about, the Carrack they had found themselves crew on for the journey from the lands of the Numen tilting violently as gale force winds threatened to topple the vessel over. " WHERE THE FUCK DID THIS BLASTED STORM EVEN COME FROM "
Drenched as they were, they stood beside several other sailors that were running about, swaying from side to side as they either leant on the walls, remained low or were threatened to be tossed overboard by the cyclone like storm.
" FOCUS BOYS " A haggard man with a long beard and long brown hair, plastered to him by the heavy rains, his thin shirt clung to him as he stood between Arvernus and Vyke as they wrestled the ropes in an attempt to bring the loosened ropes back to the capstan that they would then bind and raise the sails. " THESE STORMS COME OUT OF NOWHERE ON THE BLACK SEA OF NUMEN... BEST WE CAN DO IT WETHER THE STORM BUT FIRST. . "
Vyke was almost torn from the deck as the boat rocked, the rope clutched in his hands taunt as could he as another sailor rushed up , grabbed him and tried to help him in drawing the ropes.
" ALMOST THERE " Between the two masts of the Carrik, a capstan stood, half ready for use. The issue however was that one of the deckhands had failed to check the ropes before the voyage, and as soon as the storm struck. The frayed ropes had slapped and gone loose, the power of then whipping from side to side knocking two crew members overboard before Arvernus , Vyke and the third sailor ahd caught the loose ropes and attempted to drag them back to the capstan.
" OVER THERE " The sailor cried as he pointed to a part of the deck where the ropes that looped around the capstan were fastened to the deck.
" GOT IT " Leaning back at a forty degree angle, Arvernus wrenched the rope despite its best efforts to drag him about. Spittle flying from his lips as his water logged face was plastered by his black hair. He could barely see, with the long follicles covering his dark eyes. To the side, Vyke was no better, Jo's white hair framing his face as white blue eyes stirred with strain.
Just as he was to trip, Arvernus adjusted his footing, every step backwards he took had to he times perfectly, lest the ropes pull him back, he had to wait for a lull in the tension before tugging with alm his might. As stressful as this was, he was forced to maintain a levelled head lest he make a mistake and be tossed overboard.
' Come on come on come on ' Arvernus growled, slowly but surely, despite his fest dragging, the three men eventually made their way to the fastening point despite the ships best efforts to toss them about.
Despite the burning of his body amd the feeling of his bones grinding to dust, Arvernus managed to loop the end of the flayed rope around the grounding, looping its end through and tying it as tightly as he could, before he gripped the taunt rope, inching across its worn flayed surface as he tried his damnest to loop it around the Capstan.
' Come on ... argh ... ' The rope ground against his fingers, wedging them between the harsh iron of the Capstan and the rope itself, yet he didn't let go as he lopped it a single time.
He fell back as the capstan ground, finally taking the strain from himself as the sailor and Vyke did the same. As each of them fell back, they heard the capstan strain, and after several moments of stuttering, it held.
" It ain't over yet boys, get up here " The man absolutely drenched with water, gestured urgently to the handle mounted to the top of the Capstan, where he was already wrapping his red raw hands around the handle and urging his body against it, trying to push the capstans handle despite its groan of refusal. " COME ON GIVE ME A HAND "
" Lets go " Vyke didn't hesitate even for a second, launching forward under the way barrage as he crossed the deck in moments and slammed his open palms into the handle.
' Alright ... let's do this 'Despite the blood running down his palms from the rope burn or the burning strain, he walked up to the opposite side of the sailor and forced himself against the Capstan as the two beside him grunted, their faces contorting and veins popping In their foreheads.
" COME ON OR WE'RE FUCKED " The man cried as he slammed his chest against it.
" PUUUUSH " The man that had helped them cried as Arvernus and Vyke howled to the skies , pushing with all their might as it began to slowly rotate under their combined might.
" ITS WORKING " The sails snapped back and forward under the winds even as they began to rise ever so slowly. The captains orders echoing across the deck occasionally smothered by the churning storms thunder.
The terrible creaking of the ship slowly began to lessen the higher the sails were raised, each passing moment the storm found less and less purchase on the sail until it was fully folded together at the top.
As the capstan ground to a halt, Vyke and Arvwenus collapsed alongside the sailor that had helped them, the fell to lean against the Capstan as other crew members rushed about, the strain they were under significantly lowered now the sails were up.
" You did good boys , names barbos... yours" Barbos, the now named sailor whose swet hair clung to him, turned his brown eyes to the strong young men that had just done a job tbay would take four men
" Arvernus ... Tarnished" said man Rose and regarded the deck, as the last of the loose ropes were fastened, Crates were bolted down and anything loose was hunkered down.
" Vyke ... Tarnished" Vyke grumbled, raising himself as he used the Capstan to assist in his rising.
" Tarnished are ye " Barbos smirked slightly, letting his head rest against the Capstan, spitting water from his face as he regarded the two with a keen, studying eye. " Not everyday we see two tarnished so alike ... or getting along. A rare sort ye be ... you'll do ere if ya like the others "
With the boats rocking settled somewhat, most of the rigging had been secured, with the deck ready and little more than observe, the Captain of the ship, a hardy man with a beard tied into knots around his neck. Broad shouldered with a slightly limp in his leg. His cold blue eyes scanned the skies as he pulled his black hat over his eyes.
" Curse ye weather " He growled out with such presence it seemed as if the storm itself held its breath for but a moment. " The deck be secure, maintain the rigging, the rest of ye standing about yet below deck and get some shut eye ... we be up early when da storm ends "
" That's us " Barbos grabbed Arvernus and Vyke and dragged them to the doors that lead into the cold, moist interior of the ship.
" Watch ye heads, it be a cold night ahead of us " Despite the kit lanterns that swayed with the ship, following the world's gravity as they clinked against the walls, the heat they gave was negligible, with water spraying in through the doors that was closed the next moment.
Listening his advice, they were prepared to duck under the beam as they arrived at the stairs that lead down into the vessel.
" Watch ye step " Arvernus almost stepped on a cremated hand, whom lay slumped against the wall with his arms crossed, only opening his eye a wink as they stepped down towards where several crew were laying against walls or sleeping on beds made of hey. Some even had tarps mounted to pilons or pillars, the sway of the light in the damp interior of the room illuminating the faces of the men slouched about.
" Pick a spot for ye to rest... ye want to get plenty o sleep " Barbos gestured to the interior, not particularly caring where they slept as long as they were ripe and ready for the next day's work.
" My thanks " Arvernus left Barbos to groan and slide down the wall, leaning his head back before, to their surprise, immediately falling asleep faster than either Vyke or Arvernus had ever seen a man, his snores rumbling from his chest the next moment.
" Alright ... let's get some shut eye " Arvernus, body sore and arms heavy, spied a spot in the haphazardly sprawled crew, making his way over to the wall where he used his hands to slide himself down and lay his head against the wood of the ships wall.
" You know this isn't going to be a fun trip " Vyke whispered as he lay himself down beside Arvernus, spying the crew whom despite the terrible weather, slept through it like babies. " They're rough men "
" But honest men... mostly " Even as he lay l, with his body slowly weakening to the bliss of coming sleep, Arveenus remained alert. " Plus we had no other way across the churning seas... "
" Hm ... I still don't like it .. but ... you have a point, we'd still be stuck in numen ... we'll just make do " Vyke crossed his arms and lowered his head to the crook of his chest, closing his eyes as he prepared to sleep. " But ... we should prepare, it doesn't hurt to be ready encase things go south "
" Agreed ... Rest well vyke " Arvernus closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the next day.
" You too Arvernus " Amd so they almost immediately fell asleep, amidst the rocking of the ship and the rolling thunder across the heavens outside, they somehow managed to fall sleep, preparing themselves for the next day of their journey across the seas.
....THE PRESENT ...
" Tyr you're finished training for the morning right " Before Tyr could so much as throw his weapons into his room and rest, Ciri appeared before him, having waiting for the better part of half an hour beside his door, ignoring many a servant or attendant in favour of waiting for her friend to return from the grounds.
Her platinum blonde bobbed up as she bounced, greeting the boy whom not months ago in skelliege had been almost the same height as she, and yet she came just up to the top of his chest now. ' How did he grow so quickly '
Despite her previous joy, her lips puckered a moment as she stated at the blue cloth broidered with a foreign insignia. ' I wander what that place is like ... '
" Ciri ... " Tyr's voice called her from her distracted state, Emerald eyes blinking rapidly as she took half a step back with a gasp.
" Nothing ... Uh ... ahhh ... I was wandering if you wanted to come play in the square with the others ... I thought since you got along so well with them last time you might want to join " Nervous as she was , she drew a circle with her right foot and hung her head, hands nervously wringing in fear he may deny her request.
' Look at her ' Adjusting the strap to his longsword, he rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. " Really ciri ... "
She hung her head at his accusatory tone, her face flushing in embarrassment. " I.... "
" How could anyone ever deny you, come on let's go ..." He grabbed her hand and turned her around, already rushing down the halls where she was almost torn from the ground as he ran.
" Aren't you tired " Gaining her footing, the two rushed past two men, nearly knocking them away as they ran down the halls eith soft light beating upon them. Yet she worried for him despite his enthusiasm.
" Tired... what of it, milady desires companionship, what knight would u be to deny milady ... ooop" He laughed back, only to dodge out of the way of a servant carrying splatter as they rounded the corner that lead to the stairs to the first floor.
She stared at the back of his head, brown hair flowing behind him as the bow that kept his lengthening hair at bay bounced. Dragged down the stairs, she couldn't help the warmth that flowed as a small smile came to her palid lips. " Okay ... "
....
The streets were full of mud and stone, with the chatter of peasant life chattering about.
" Hey watch it " A grumbling balding man hissed as Ciri and Tyr moved through the clouds towards a bunch of children huddled in a circle. She hadn't had time to disguise herself, nor that she desired to, with Tyr at her side she'd never felt safer than these moments. She'd seen him fell many a man larger than himself, always proving the victor unless it was against his teacher. She trusted in him to protect her, and so she smiled at him as they broke through the clouds and made their way to the children.
" It's the princess and Tyr " They all recognised her the moment she broke through the group, her blue cloak a stark contrast to those around, a clear sign of her wealth compared to them.
" Yea " Knae turned to Oorjis, the largest of the boys and also the eldest of his two brothers who were also huddled about, the group of six they were shuffled over to allow Tyr and Ciri in.
" Hey guys " Her chipped voice spread amongst them, whilst Khane took a subtle stare at Tyr, looking him up and down before grunting. ' This guy ... '
" OOo knucklebones ... whose winning " Ciri chortled as she spied the sheep knuckles on the ground, looking around eagerly as the six children looked between eachother and then at Khane.
" I am... You want a turn " Handing on of the sheep knuckles to Ciri, the girl eagerly took them, gave a small glance to the others before tossing the knuckle up into the air and trying to grab another before it fell.
' This game again ' Whilst he hated the game, he understood how the game knucklebone could show off one's skill. With the goal to throw a sheep knuckles in the air, pick up another and catch the one thrown on the back of the hand and then in the palm once more, a game of skill, speed and precision.
And Ciri, for all her attempts, had never beaten the boys around, especially Khane whom didn't particularly care to go easy on her, amd never lost even amongst his brothers.
" Awww " Ciri slumped as she dropped the sheep knuckle the first time it fell, not even collecting one point before losing, where she hung her head and handed the bone to Tyr to have his turn.
" Good try Ciri ... alright ... which one, throw and catch or pick up " Tyr asked, his dark eyes scanning the boys as they shook their heads.
" Doesn't matter " They liked Tyr and all, But playing against him was, despite their best efforts, an exercise in futility. They'd never won a single time after he joined a game, they'd never so much as seen him drop a knuckle, instead they had started taking turns betting how many tried it would take him to pick up the knuckles before he won.
" Alright " He decided to deviate and play throw and catch, where one would throw all the knuckles in the air and try and catch them one by one, trying to catch them all oj the back of your hand ,before they could touch the ground. Catching them in your palm resulted in a loss, it had to be on the back of your hand.
" Hup" He tossed the five knuckles into the air, they eyes of everyone following as they flew half a foot into the air, arced up and slowly began their descent.
' Lets go ... ' This particular type of knucklebone game was his first attempt, and so, when his hand rose, the back nudging a bone to the right towards another, he had to angle the back of his hand a certain way as he managed to use his momentum to firmly plant them on the back of his hand as he arced them toward, plucking up two more on the way down as he rotated his hand and arm on the way down in an S formation, bringing them down to a halt as he manoeuvred his hand until it rested , still before him... three knuckle bones rested upon the back of his hand where two more hit the mud below.
' Hm ... it's harder than expected ' Though he was sure to do better on a second try, he recognised humility in the face of children, and let the loss go. " Ahhh looks like that's the best I got "
He dropped the knuckles to the ground, picking one up and handing it to the boy at his side. " Here you go Paul "
" Thanks Tyr " Paul smiled as Khane watched his youngest brother interact with Tyr, lips thinning slightly as the boy tossed the bone up and reached for one of the bones on the floor.
" You know what I heard from the farmers the other day " Samuel, The middle sibling between Khane and Paul, spoke up as he crouched, his tight fitting clothing pressing against him as he looked conspiratorially between the children.
" What " Ciri leant forward like the others, As Paul managed to get two bones before giving up and handing it to Khane whom took his go.
" I heard ..." He smacked his lips. " That a Griffin attacked a village on the outskirts if Cintra ... and that a witcher has been sent to kill it "
" Urgh ... I can't tell what's worse, the monster or the witcher " Paul rubbed his brow at the news, As Ciri looked between then confusedly.
" What's wrong with Witchers " Genuine curiosity touched her features as Tyr sat back and listened. He knew about the witcher due to the queens anger at the news. ' Apparently the Queen doesn't like witchers ... '
" My mum says they're worse than the beasts they kill ... men who go around murdering and scamming everyone of coin ... let's just hope he leaves quickly after killing the griffin " Paul rumbled, watching Khane pick up three before finally dropping the tossed knuckle, signifying his loss before he handed the knuckles to another girl of the group, beautrice.
" Well ... my father said witchers are mutant monsters whose sorceries made them ravenus beasts " Beautrice spoke before she threw the bones into the air, only managing to snatch one from the ground before failing to get any more. " Awww ... well anyway, I hear they're towering monsters whose eyes glow like demons ... they haunt people who fail to pay them "
" Towering man ... " Ciri turned to Tyr with a contemplative eye. " Is Lord Caria a witcher "
Sure she knew of witchers, heard tale occasionally, but in the castle, there were few chances to learn much of anything that Calanthe didn't deem fit for her to learn.
At those words, the children scoffed as Tyr spoke up, Samuel finally accepting the knuckle from Beautrice to start his turn.
" No ... Master Arvernus is not a witcher ... imfact I'm quite sure he would be considerably taller than any witcher of these lands " Tyr reasoned back, of course they knew of whom Arvernus was, a towering man of muscle and honour that many maids swooned to when they spotted him within the streets of Cintra during the day and night.
" The Queen should have just sent him after the Griffin, then we know it'd die a quick death " Khane spoke up in support of Arvernus, he along with many of the children in Cintra looked up to Arvwrnus in some small way despite never meeting. Rumours spread, tales spun of a man whose strength unparalleled and had many a maiden after him... making him a tale taller than life... and children believed tales.
" Bah what's so dangerous about a Griffin anyhow " Samuel caught a total of four before losing and passing them off to another girl at his side, a blonde girl named astrid who smirked and confidently took her shot, only to not pick up a single knuckle before losing.
" I heard griffins were towering terrible beasts unkillable for any man " Paul spread his hands in a mock show of a monster, whilst Khane stared at his younger brother with thin lips.
" Aww here Erik " She passed the bones to her boyfriend, a young man with similar features to the three brothers yet wasn't related to them.
" My thanks " Erik placed the knuckles and took his turn. " I hear they come down from the skies and can pick up and throw horses around "
" Thats a load of shite , nothing can be that big, we'd all be dead if they could " Paul's words cut Erik's turn entirely as they began a small bout about how big Griffins could get and what they could do. Whilst Ciri and Tyr offered their two cents.
' Hm ... ' Tyr watched Erik take his go before he rose, much to the surprise of everyone present.
" I'll be right back ... I have a book I believe go in detail about them ... you got it ciri" Tyr rose and turned back to the castle before rushing off into the crowds, all the while Khane and the others watched him vanish into the sea of people.
' Alright ... ' Ciri smiled, staring at the sea Tyr had vanished into for another moment before she accepted the bones from Erik and take her go, not noticing the shift in Khanes eyes now that her friend had departed.
' Now ... ' Khane grunted, watching her try and fail to catch more than 3, his finger beginning to tap as he stares at her.
For several minutes after Tye departed, Khane stared, his jaw moved from side to side as his teeth ground together and the veins on his forehead began to grow more and more pronounced. Until finally, when Paul looked at his elder sibling, he opened his mouth to voice his question, but not before Khane voiced his thoughts. " It's always about you isn't it "
" Hey I'm sorry I didn't mean " Ciri doubled back after her second go, falling half back as Khane rose to his full height, the panic In her eyes real as she saw the anger flushing his features. " I... I didn't... "
" NO ... ITS ALWAYS YOU THIS MY LIFE SUCKS THAT, THEN YOU COME DOWN HERE AND MOCK US EVERY TINE WE TRY AND HAVE FUN " Slittle flew from his mouth as he roared, many of the men and women about turning to stare at the source of the noise, curious eyes staring towards the children.
" I ... I DONT ... DONT ... " Tears welled in her Emerald eyes that began to become puffy, nose sniffling as snot began to run down her nose, and with an upturned face, she began to cry.
" CANT YOU JUST STOP COMING DOWN HERE ... NOBODY LIKES YOU ANYWAY, WERE ONLY FRIENDS WITH YOU BECAUSE YOUR THE CUNT QUEENS GRAND DAUGHTER. SHE MADE US PLAY WITH YOU " Khane bellowed as he pushed Ciri back onto the budded ground, her wide impressionable eyes twisting as she fell, her jaw quaking as tears bristled in her eyes. " GET OUT OF HERE WE DONT WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN"
He raised his foot as if to kick her, which was when Tyr noticed the commotion while he was coming back from the castle, he watched as Ciri stood up, stared amd turned away, wailing as she rushed into a nearby alley.
" CIRI " Tyr cried as he watched the other children gather at the alleys mouth, dropping everything he was doing to rush to them.
Khane had barely stopped just before the alleys mouth, his lip quivering as he watched Ciri rush into the darkness of the alleys mouth before Tyr had arrived next to them. Yet he steeled himself and uttered a phrase that would forever define him.
Tyr heard the spoken words that came, and froze as he realised what had happened.
" Good riddance... I hope she never comes back " His blood boiled, his previously soft features twisting into something ugly as he rounded and gave the most vicious backhand he could muster right into Khane's face, sending the boy tumbling head over heels where he crashed into a cart several feet away.
" HOW DARE YOU " He leapt, clearing two metres in a single bound before he was on the teen, slamming his fists and knuckles into the boys face over and over. He was being heavy handed, he knew that deep down, as his bare knuckles tore flesh and removed teeth, only when he lay over Khane, the boys lips barely moving as his mangled face barely drew breath, did Tyr stop.
" What do you have to say for yourself " Had he not liked Khane's response, he was sure he'd kill this boy here right now infront of the people of cintra and their terrified friends.
" I'm... I'm sorry .. they made me do it " Through choked sobs and spitting blood, as cols realisation ran down Tyr's spine.
" You craven cunt " He didn't even give Khane another glance as he rose and darted into the alley after the sobbing girl.
....
" mmmmph " Ciri cried as a large hand wound tightly around her mouth, black in colour, a man wearing a dark robe hissed at two others in a foreign language she couldn't understand at all.
Struggle as she might, behind the buildings and away from sight, she was as helpless as any other child as her wide eyes darted around, as she was lifted from her feet and dragged struggling towards the nearby alley exit where three horses stood.
" Hhhhhhhhlppppp" She screamed as loudly as she could into the man's hand, legs flailing about and hands pounding back at his chest, yet she couldn't so much as make him flinch as she they about exited the alley. ' SOMEBODY HELP ME'
She heard the man holding her bark in his foreign tongue at the other two , as they moved to their horses and prepared to mount them. ' NOOOOO '
" LET GO OF HER " The voice that broke through the haze she was screaming herself into, made her eyed widen as she turned to the young man in blue that speared into the alley like a boulder throne from a trebuchet.
' TYR ' Relief flooded her as the young man tore forward, the air around him screaming as he leapt a full metre and a half into the air, his blue garbs shifting as underarms glinted in the sunlight.
Already covered in blood was he, yet the sunlight illuminated his figure, burned into her mind as his sword crashed towards the nearest of the baleful men screaming in their foreign tongue, unblinking their sword and swinging it at the descending man.
Whatever they were saying was muted as the second of the group also unslung their sword as Tyr slammed down upon the first, the crashing of their swords a screaming catastrophe that grazed sparks about and knocked the man back, his hood falling back to reveal ears slightly pointed at the ends, palid features and blued eyes attached to a snarling face framed by black hair.
The sword he held had been cut, gouged by Tyrs blade as the young man landed, feet smashing into the ground as he used his Footwork to dange forward and thrust at the recovering first man.
' They're elven in nature ' His eyes landed on their eats for but a moment before the surprised elf he had clashed blades with froze as Tyr's blade pierced his chest with ease.
" CIRI ... " His eyes found her own as the man holding her rushed to force her onto the horses back, whilst the second of the group cut a vicious slash through the air towards his neck.
" DON'T BE AFRAID CIRI " He cried leaning back to both dodge the slice to the head and drag his sword from the first elves chest, the slick wet noise of his blade escaping the man's chest accompanied by a burst of blood that coated him.
" IT'LL BE OKAY " He slung his blade upwards, his surprising strength upending the man and sending him skidding back half a foot with his blade knocked up and away before he launched forward, head down and smashing straight into the man's stomach, the strength of which staggered him and made him double over.
" DIE YOU ELF CUNT " The elf held his stomach a moment too long ad Tyr's hand launched for his mouth, and as his weapon arm moved a blur, grip grabbing his jaw before he used his purchase to run his blade across the elven man's throat in one fluid movement, opening up the muscle and sinew that blew out in a spray of blood.
In the seven seconds it took for the man's neck to open amd for him to die, Tyr rushed for the alleys end, Ciri's scream echoing as the man that grabbed her moved her about as easy one would a sack of potatoes, mounting his horse and breaking for the streets that lead to the city gates.
" NO YOU WON'T " He didn't care for illusions crafted to comfort the men and women of cintra, ans so he leant forward, as the rider had to take care to not upend the horse as they moved through the crowds and around stalls..
' Hang on Ciri ' His long sword might as well have weighed as much as a feather, as he leant forward at a forty degree angle and launched forward a blur faster than a man could move, deftly moving between men and women, bouncing about as he made to pursue the the rider weaving between the crowds.
" OUT OF THE WAAAAYYYY ... THEY'VE GOT THE PRINCESSSS .... GUAAAARDS " His cry, so loud it shook the very air, caused man and women to stumble as he leapt high over the head of two men, left hand flying forward as he slung a Kurkri through the air at the horse, missing by a hairs breath as it lodged itself into the wood of a stall the rider dodged around.
As if his words seemed to wake the world, the guards of Cintra lining the streets zeroed in on the cry that shook the heavens, hearing ... understanding and narrowing in on the elven rider cursing in his foreign tongue.
" ITS THE PRINCESS " Horns blared as the kidnappers horse rounded the corner and tore at the caste gate at the distance. " DDOP THE GATES ... SOUND THE ALARM "
Reacting as quickly as they could, the cintran guards turned their heads, some took swipes at the horse or tried to step I to its path, yet the rider continued past, swiftly pursued by the blue blur chasing him behind.
' They're going to get through the gates ' Infact, Tyr observed the Cintran guards had acted too slowly, the horse breaking through and making way into the fields outside.
' No ... I wont let you ' He tore throigh the gates a moment later, bowling two guards to the side as his hand flew to the sack wrapped around his back, slinging it forward, his legs thumping in pursuit as he aimed it at the horse the rider and ciri were upon.
With all of the mana he could muster, Tyr raised the bundle he held, not even bothering to unwind the cloth that obscured it before swinging it, loosening a glintstone pebble in the hopes that it would reach the black garbed man whom had taken Ciri.
" CIRIIII " Tyr cried ad several more riders joined the fleeing man, making a break for the treeline. ' No ... '
Like a locomotive, Tyr leant forward and tore across the ground, chest heaving and body quaking as he sprinted forward faster than earlier, urging himself forward despite his exhaustion.
And yet, the distance he was covering was negligible, faster than a man yet still slower than the horses he was chasing.' YOU WON'T ESCAPE MEE '
....
Sitting before the queen, whatever Arvernus was about to say, as he dined with her and her husband, fell away as his head suddenly snapped to the walls of the greathall.
Confused at his actions , Calanthe was about to ask what his strange actions were about, yet found herself unable as Arvernus dropped his cutlery, rose and began to match straight for the doors of the hall, absolutely flattening his chair to scraps of wood in his urgency.
" Arvernus what's going on " Calanthe called, watching in confusion as the towering man flung thr hall doors wide open.
" Tyr has just cast a spell .. he's only been bid to do so in an emergency ... there's something going on " The message was clear, whatever was happening called for Tyr, the most talented squire in Cintra to use powers he was barred from using. Which meant obvious danger.
" Cirilla is with him " Many would have thought Calanthe would have turned into her namesake as she leapt over the table with all the poise of a nimble cat, and rushed from the hall even faster than Arvernus, screeching throigh the halls to rally the guards and send out patrols, all but throwing herself from the castles front door without even knowing which direction to head.
" With me Calanthe " She didn't even ask where his steed came from as Arvernus burst throigh the castle doors upon Torrents back, his hand reaching down to grab her as the rumbling horse grunted as it immediately rushed at top speed.
She didn't even have to think twice, reaching up as she was scooped up and onto his steed, which tore through the streets almost bowling the people's of Cintra to the ground hadn't they thrown themselves out of its way.
" Hurry Arvernus ... get me to her " Calanthe hissed, clinging to the Armor that had appeared on Arvernus's body, her hate filled gaze scanning for any signs of her dear grand daughter.
" Of course your majesty ... FASTER TORRENT " At his bidding, much to Calanthes shock, The horse leapt upwards as it reached a nearby house, and leapt clean upwards onto its ceiling. " LETS GO "
