Chapter 115 - How Low Can You Go?

POV Agatha

I run, but each step feels like it leads nowhere, as all these halls look the same. I don't know how one of those things found me, but I really didn't want to get caught by it.

I stop running to catch my breath but freeze when I hear that sound.

"Screech!"

I look down the hallway and see a creature crawling on all four limbs with a smooth, black, bulbous head and a drooling maw.

I run in a stumbling panic as I spot the Xenomorph. I had tried killing that thing before, but to my horror, most of my magic was so weak that it just slid right off the creature. Then this damn maze of hallways appeared, and I have been fleeing ever since.

I slam my hands into the ground and summon a wall of stone to hopefully stall the thing for a few moments. I don't even wait around, nor do I dare look back at the sounds of something sizzling and melting.

Slam

I slam face-first into a wall as I turn a corner, and I can feel that my nose is now broken. I look around and realize I had hit a dead end.

'NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! This can't be happening! This can't be the way I go out!'

I panic and try to find a way out, but the best I manage is to enter a room and hide. Seconds after I hide, I hear the door creak open, and I cover my mouth in fear as tears stream down my eyes. A tail suddenly falls in front of my hiding place, and I do everything in my power not to make a sound as it slides across the ground.

(AN: If you want a visual, watch Alien: Isolation - First Encounter by Generic Gaming on YouTube; be warned, it is from a horror game so it might be a bit scary for some people. )

The sound of the door is heard again, and things are quiet for several seconds. But despite that, I don't move a muscle or make a sound.

Drip

I feel something wet hit my face and, with shaking hands, touch the substance. I close my eyes as I am pretty sure I know what it is. I refuse to look in the direction of the substance, nor do I open my eyes as I feel the breath of something on my face. I do, however, openly cry in fear as I know what is next to my face.

Eventually, after not being hurt, I open my eyes and see just as I feared: the Xenomorph was mere inches away from my face. Its open maw slowly extends, and a second mouth that I believe might be its tongue, and I see my life flash before my eyes. Then I can't take it anymore and faint.

POV Shift Rio

As Agatha passes out, I decide I have made her suffer enough and end her life. But not before checking her mind for anything of note. Sure enough, she didn't have any tricks up her sleeve left.

'I'm never doing this again.'

I wanted to try out being a horror villain, and I wanted to make Agatha suffer a little bit before she died. But honestly, it left a gross taste in my mouth and took far too long. Better to just kill them and get it over with. Case in point, my next target would be dealt with swiftly as I could manage. The first thing I did was reach out to Wong and fill him in on what Kaecilius was doing. I wasn't blind to what Wong was doing with Strange, but I let it be, as Wong hadn't done anything yet. It was clear he was torn on what to do.

Strange had immense potential, but he was still an arrogant prick and not the lovable kind like Dr House, but the stuck-up god complex kind. Moreover, I did notice the ring that Wong had. It was a very powerful artifact that I could also tell was a bit cursed. It didn't take me long to then put the puzzle together and figure out the Ancient One's plan. I knew it was hers, as Wong wasn't the scheming type.

Regardless of Wong's plan, he still agreed that he had to stop Kaecilius from obtaining the Heart of Limbo. So they have been fighting it out for the past several hours. It was truly a test of endurance for both of them, as Kaecilius had the Necromancer's Amulet and a lot of souls to constantly empower himself and resurrect himself should he be killed. Wong had that Ring, which gave him immense healing powers as well as boosting his spellcraft.

It was very entertaining to watch while I finished off the various stragglers in Limbo. There wasn't a whole lot to deal with. Most had already been killed or harvested for their souls by Kaecilius. The few that remained were his minions, or they were those that fled Limbo to take their chances on their homeworlds. The minions I had to deal with were hardly a threat. It was clear that they were only left around because Kaecilius wanted some people to follow and worship him, as well as do the boring chores.

"So who do you think will win?" Selene asks as she sits next to me at the entrance to the cave containing the Heart of Limbo.

"Hmm, tough to say. But I think Wong has a greater chance of winning. 6:4 odds, with 6 in Wong's favor," I comment.

Selene nods.

"Hmm, I think you might be right, but it all depends on how many souls Kaecilius has," Selene replies.

"True. But at the rate he is losing them, it seems likely that he will run out of steam first," I point out.

"So are you going to kill whoever wins?" Selene asks.

"What? No. If Wong wins, he can go back to being a stalker. If Kaecilius wins, then sure, I'll step in and take him out," I reply.

"Just asking. But am I even needed here anymore?" Selene comments.

"Not really. Thanks for helping clean up those thugs. I probably could have taken them out myself, but better safe than sorry," I shrug.

"Can't argue with that," Selene answers equally nonchalantly.

BOOOM

"Well, there goes Kaecilius," I comment as Wong uses the spell he had been charging up for the past half hour.

The spell had slammed Kaecilius into the ground at several times the speed of sound and turned him into a stain upon the ground. And before Kaecilius could start to regenerate, Wong stole the Necromancer's Amulet from him, thus causing his soul to be torn away to the afterlife. And based on all the hands grabbing him and the screams of agony as he begged for mercy, that won't be a pleasant trip.

"It is done. Now I will leave this cursed place," Wong says with an exhausted tone.

Before I can respond, he tosses the amulet towards me.

"Destroy it, or hide it away; just keep it away from the world once more. I can't hide it, nor can I keep it out of dangerous hands," Wong says with a defeated tone.

"As you wish," I respond and destroy the amulet, as I didn't have a need for such a foul creation.

The souls of those trapped inside were released, and I was thanked for my help. Wong smiled and then simply left. Selene did the same so I could be the uncontested ruler of Limbo. This allowed me to walk past the seal on the cave where the Heart of Limbo rested.

As I approached the Heart, I felt the immense power contained within it. With each pulse, the magic surged. I felt a slight whisper in the back of my mind. Telling me of all the power I could have if I truly claimed it for myself, but I quickly dismissed the temptation. But I still felt it apt to give words to what was happening.

"The power of a star in the palm of my hand," I say with awe.

I store the Heart and quickly leave as the dimension starts to collapse in on itself, as without the Heart, Limbo cannot exist. I already had a plan for the Heart. What better idea than to do what Dr Doom did and use it as a power source for my armor? With the expertise of the Dwarves, I am sure I can forge a suit of armor far beyond even the Destroyer Armor.

Beyond that, I had a lot of work to do now. I had a mega project that, when finished, would secure my empire quite possibly forever. We need a space fleet as well, and I had a pretty good idea of what Thanos may attempt. When Thanos comes to Earth, he won't come alone. Thus, I need something to prevent the landing of his troops. Thanos is very strong, but without the Infinity Stones, he is just a single person. As for what knowledge he has developed, I have some plans for dealing with that. Thankfully, I was immune to those kinds of powers, so if it came down to it, I would face Thanos by myself. Which with the suit, I may be able to match or surpass him.

'Sigh. One step at a time.'
