Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Bone Awakening

There was no transition.

No sense of movement, no falling, no pull.

One moment, Riven existed within his body—

The next, he stood somewhere else.

Silence.

Not the kind that comes from absence of sound… but the kind that presses.

The ground beneath him was unclear—neither solid nor void. The air felt still, unmoving, as if time itself had paused to watch.

Then—

A figure.

A woman stood not far from him.

Still. Upright. Alone.

Riven's eyes narrowed.

There was something familiar about her stance… something he couldn't quite grasp—

Then she moved.

And his breath hitched.

That motion—

That rhythm—

That… technique.

"That's… mine."

No.

Not his.

But the same.

Every subtle shift of her body, every controlled breath, every tension in her muscles—it was identical to what he had instinctively begun to practice.

Only—

She was doing it correctly.

Her posture lowered slightly.

Her spine straightened.

Her breathing slowed.

Then—

Her fingers curled.

And her body trembled.

Crack.

Riven froze.

It wasn't loud.

But it didn't need to be.

That sound—

It didn't come from the outside.

"…inside her…"

The woman's expression didn't change.

No scream. No panic.

But her body—

It was fighting.

Crack. Crack.

Her shoulders stiffened.

Her knees bent slightly, as if her body was about to give out—

But it didn't.

It held.

Barely.

Riven felt it.

Not as a spectator—

But as if the pain echoed through his own bones.

A sharp, deep sensation crawled through his frame.

Uninvited.

Unwanted.

Then—

A presence.

Riven didn't see him arrive.

But he was there.

Behind the woman.

An old man.

Still. Calm. Watching.

His gaze wasn't on her suffering—

It was on her endurance.

Then he spoke.

His voice wasn't loud.

Yet it carried weight.

"Bones are the pillars of the body."

Another crack echoed.

The woman's body trembled harder now.

Her breathing lost its rhythm—

But she didn't collapse.

"If they cannot endure…"

A pause.

Not long.

But heavy.

"…nothing else will."

Riven clenched his jaw.

Something about those words—

They didn't feel like instruction.

They felt like judgment.

The woman straightened slightly.

Not fully.

But enough.

Her trembling didn't stop—

But it changed.

From instability…

To resistance.

Then the old man spoke again.

Colder this time.

Sharper.

"Break the vessel… awaken the foundation."

The words sank.

Not into the air—

But into her.

And Riven felt it.

The moment they landed—

Something shifted.

The cracking didn't stop.

But it no longer sounded fragile.

It sounded… controlled.

Forged.

The woman's body steadied.

Slowly.

Painfully.

But undeniably.

Her posture rose.

Her presence changed.

Nothing about her appearance was different—

Yet—

"…she feels heavier…"

Not physically.

But in existence.

Like standing near her would feel… difficult.

Riven's eyes widened slightly.

"This… is just the beginning?"

Before he could think further—

The woman stopped.

Completely.

The movement ceased.

The trembling faded.

Silence returned.

Then—

The old man shifted.

Just slightly.

Not fully turning.

But enough.

Enough that—

For a brief moment—

It felt like his gaze passed through the woman…

And landed on Riven.

Riven's breath caught.

Impossible.

He shouldn't be seen.

He shouldn't even be here.

Yet—

That presence—

That awareness—

"Watching is easy."

The words weren't loud.

But they struck.

"Try surviving it."

Everything shattered.

Not violently—

But instantly.

The woman vanished.

The old man disappeared.

The space

Gone.

Riven's eyes snapped open.

His body felt heavy.

Too heavy.

The air around him felt thicker than before.

He didn't move.

Didn't speak.

Didn't think.

For a moment—

There was nothing.

Then—

"…Break the vessel…"

His pupils shrank.

The voice—

It wasn't outside.

It wasn't memory.

It was—

"…awaken the foundation…"

Inside him.

Not heard.

Not imagined.

Imprinted.

Riven's breathing changed.

Subtly.

But uncontrollably.

His chest rose deeper.

Slower.

His fingers twitched.

His muscles tightened—

Not by choice.

A strange pressure built within him.

Deep.

Far deeper than muscle.

"…my bones…"

The sensation crawled through him.

Not sharp.

Not yet.

But present.

Awakening.

His jaw clenched.

His body tensed instinctively—

Trying to resist something it didn't understand.

But it didn't stop.

It didn't listen.

The words echoed again.

Clearer.

Heavier.

Break the vessel…

A pulse.

From within.

...awaken the foundation.

Crack.

Riven froze.

The sound—

It came from him.

Silence followed.

But it wasn't empty anymore.

Something had begun.

And it wasn't waiting for permission.
