Chapter 13 - Chapter 11: Kingslanding II

108 AC

Kingswood

3rd POV:

In an exquisitely made carriage we can see three people inside, a bloated but handsome jovial looking man with silver hair and purple eyes, a beautiful young woman with bright red hair, beautiful features and looking visibly pregnant and finally a cute little boy with silver white hair and purple eyes. "Where might Rhaenyra be your grace?". Alicent asks Viserys with a slightly hopeful tone in her voice. Her voice pulls Viserys out of his thoughts while he plays with the boy on his lap. "Oh, Rhaenyra decided to travel on dragon back, you know how she is". He says with a chuckle, not at all worried about the strife between his wife and daughter, seemingly oblivious to it. "Indeed I know your grace, how might the betrothals for Rhaenyra be going your grace?". She agrees with a slightly bitter tone and asks a question. "Hah, Not well there are too many people to consider since there are offers from all over westeros and Rhaenyra seems to have no interest in getting betrothed much less married". He says in bitter tone at his daughter's attitude to her marriage and how she doesn't seem to take being his heir seriously.

"The way to get her to be betrothed is to make her believe it is her choice your grace otherwise she will fiercely resist it". She says, trying and giving him some insight to her friend's thoughts. "But it is entirely her choice, she can choose any man in all of westeros to be her husband, how many women can say the same, but she won't even consider getting betrothed". He says in an angry and bitter tone. She silently agrees with him in her mind. They both fall silent as the carriage starts slowing down and they step out of the carriage. The field is full of the most important nobles in westeros but the most notable would be the Lannisters and the Hightower. As the king and Queen are announced lord Hobert Hightower brother of Otto Hightower and the lord paramouount of the Reach makes another announcement hailing. "Aegon the Conqueror-Babe, Second of His Name". A sentence which seemed to allude that Aegon was to be the heir to king Viserys. A sentence which did not amuse the king and those supporting Rhaenyra as heir.

Alicent Hightower POV:

Father has bid me to talk to Viserys and somehow convince him to making Aegon the heir but I have not talked to him about it. I do not wish to further betray Rhaenyra and whatever remains of our friendship. I do not wish for another civil war for the iron throne especially with my children involved. And I know that the king loves Rhaenyra very much, more so than Aegon and he would never agree to making Aegon heir, if I do say it it would only push him away from me. I think as we exit the carriage and we are announced to the lords after which we my uncle says something I wish he had not said. "Aegon the Conqueror-Babe, Second of His Name". Rhaenyra will think that this is want I want, that I want my children to usurp her position as heir, that I schemed and told my uncle to say that. This is bad, and what if the king also thinks that I did this?. I can see he does not look happy with that announcement. Haha I sigh in lament at the events that are in motion now that house Hightower has practically proclaimed they want Aegon to be the heir. This is a disaster and the hunt hasn't even begun yet.

Viserys POV:

We get out of the carriage and we are then announced but then lord Hobert opens his mouth. "Aegon the the Conquer-Babe, Second of his Name". The gall of this man to say something like this to my face, unfortunately I can't have his tongue removed as he is a lord paramouount and his words are not explicitly treasonous. These are the times I wish Daemon were here, he is more threatening than I and lord Hobert would not say such things if he were here. I force a smile as we head to our to our tent and prepare for the hunt. I hope it is a good hunt. Alicent makes her way towards the other lady's in another tent as the men prepare for the hunt.

Otto Hightower POV:

My brother is a fool, I think while I am in the tent with the king preparing for the hunt. The idiot has made my work harder, how am I to convince the king to name Aegon as heir when he would think this is a scheme because of Horbert's words. If this is how he is is a lord then house Hightower may be doomed if Aegon doesn't become king. What kind of fool says something like that to a king who is known for favouring his daughter. "Your grace if you can not find a proper betrothal for the princess why not btroth her to Aegon?". I ask the king as this seems to be a way to avoid war and get Aegon to be king. "Heh Aegon is two Otto". The king laughs thinking I am jesting. And his face suddenly becomes angry when he realises I am not. "Careful Otto, careful your ambitions seem to be getting the better of you Otto, Aegon is only two namedays and I will not hear of this conversation again, am I clear?". The king asks me in anger. "Of course your grace". I nod and bow and he waves his hand to dismiss me. Another fool, he truly believes his daughter can be queen when he ascended the throne because he was a man and the person who had a better claim than him was a woman. All the people who supported him as heir will never support Rhaenyra, but if she were betrothed to Aegon the grumblings would stop, but he cannot see this.

I am cursed to be surrounded by fools who seem intent in undoing the work of their ancestors, if it were Jaeharys as king he would not hesitate to name Aegon as heir just like he did when he named Baelon as heir. How is Viserys so different from his grandfather?.

3rd POV:

In another tent we can see princess Rhaenyra roasting lady Redwyne asking about how she's served the realm lately, 'by eating cake?'. The princess then storms out the tent and runs into lord Jason Lannister. "Princess I am Jason Lannister, it's an honour to finally meet you". He says. "Well met lord Lannister is there something you needed?". She says confused as to what he wants. "I wanted to tell you of the beauty of casterly rock princess, some say it's the most beautiful castle in all of westeros". Lord Jason says, trying and failing to woo the princess only leaving her more confused. "I'm sure it is a lovely castle lord Lannister". She says with a smile on her face to hide her confusion. "Yes and I have already started the construction of a dragonpit sor the princess should feel at home". He says with some smugness in his tone at the prospect of marrying a Targaryen princess dragonrider. "Our children will surely be lovely with my hair and your eyes princess". He continues. Finally realisation dawn's on Rhaenyra's face as she realises he was probably sent by her father as a betrothal option. She storms off without a word towards the royal tent. The princess starts arguing with the king as the nobles listen to surely gossip later on. The princess storms out the tent and gets on a horse and rides into the forest. Ser Criston Cole of the kingsguard and the princess's sworn sword follows her.

Some time later hunters find tracks of a white hart and the king and his retinue go to hunt it. Meanwhile the princess is having a moment with cole the kingsguard as they sit by a fire he made and pheasant he hunted along with some scavenged berries. When suddenly a twig snaps and drags their attention towards a majestic white stag , long rumoured to be a sign of royalty, with some even believing it heralds a great king. Cole makes a move to take his spear to protect the princess. "Cole stop". She stops him and proceeds to slowly walk up to the white hart and she puts her hand on it's head and it also responds in kind, suddenly it's ears shoot up as it seems to hear something. It suddenly runs away.

"You should have let me kill it princess, and presented it to the king". Cole says. The princess only shakes her head and ends the conversation with that.

The king and his retinue failed to get the white hart but were successful in their hunt with ser Harwing Strong also known as breakbones making a strong impression on the king because he was the only knight who retained the prey while he wasn't on horse back.

The princess also returned triumphant, she returned bathed in blood and carrying her own prey, a wild boar behind her. In the company of Criston Cole. Overall the royal hunt was a success.
