Ava's moved fast, she was breathing heavily, frequently turning back like someone was chasing her. Then suddenly headlights appeared, in that instant she heard a voice call her name and as she turned back the car hit her. The hit wasn't minor, she was bleeding all over as she laid on the ground.
The car didn't drive away. It stopped and a man steps outside, his face was blury but his presence felt familiar. As he approached her his appearance became clearer and when she was finally about to see his face . . .
I clutch my chest breathing hard, 'was it just a dream, why did it feel so real'. As I tried catching my breath I heard a sharp sound in my ear, it sounded loud. I looked around but there wasn't anything to make such noise around me.
Then I heard it again, footsteps, where was it coming from, why can I hear footsteps so loudly.
I stepped a little to the window and i saw in a reasonable distance away, a man walking away after locking the gate.
How. . how is it possible, how can I hear the sound so loudly from such a distance.
I stumbled a little backwards in shock. Then my phone buzzed on the bed distracting me from my thought.
It was an unknown number but I picked up.
"Am I speaking to Mrs Ava Gerald?" the voice from the line said.
"Yes, who is this?" I asked.
"Its the hospital management where your grandmother is admitted, her conditions has worsened and immediate payment is needed" he said.
My fear was now replaced with stress and urgency. Beats of sweat starts steaming down my face.
"But, but I deposited some money two days ago, what is it this time" I asked panicking.
"Well, the money you sent was for her chemotherapy not her medication, if the necessary payment aren't made on time, we will be forced to paused all her treatment" he said calmly and hung up.
No, I can't let her die, I haven't seen her in months and not ready to go back to see her corpses.
She is the only family I had, the only reason I came to the capital, the only reason I'm working so hard.
All the money I made was for her, I had gone this far, I couldn't give up now.
I immediately got dressed wiping the tears off my face.
I felt a powerful presences behind me and I turned to face him.
My door was locked but he was in without making a sound . . how?. His stood watching me, with only a singlet. He looked calmed and controlled like always.
He notices my pale face as he took a few steps closer "what's wrong?" he asked.
I didn't want to answer at first but I felt like I needed tell him if I was going out this late at night.
"I'm going to Greenhill" I replied honestly.
"Why this late?".
"My grandmother is sick I need to go settle the payment" I said grabbing my bag. I didn't want to talk further. I almost hated him already for forcing me to marry him.
"And you don't have the money" he said.
"I can help you, you just need to ask" he said looking composed . . a little too composed.
I looked at him, almost shocked that he was offering to help, but I didn't want his help, I know he'll asked for something big in return.
I growled in my thoughts, something about him make me uncomfortable, even angry.
"I never asked for you help" I fired at him.
He steps a little closer almost smirking and whispers into my ear "you have no choice".
I stepped back, giving him a death glare.
As the tension erupts us, I heard something, something loud, it was the sound of broken glass coming from afar yet sounding so close.
My grip on the door handle tightens unnaturally, my eyes flickering with dim red light which I didn't notice.
Damian for the first time all night lost his composure, he looked into my eyes shocked. 'They're awakening' he whispered to himself.
Damian's back remains still resiting on the door "just leave the way, if anything happens to my grandmother, trust me I won't let you go so easily" I was real angry.
"I am in charge here, and when I say you are not going, then you aren't going" he said commandingly.
Anger started welling up in me, if not that I was indebted to him and was chased three days ago by my landlord, I would have left without coming back.
But the way he is looking at me . . like there has a different reason why he does want me to go was distressing.
"Listen to be carefully, even though I'm indebted to you, you have no right to control me, now move" I warned pointing my index finger at him.
I stepped closer to him wanting to pull him away from the door but something weird happened.
As I got closer, our hand touched, briefly but enough mess with my head. I saw it in a flash, blood splashed, the road, the shadowy figure stepping out.
I freeze for a while, this was similar to what I had dreamt of but it appeared even more real, more familiar and worse of all, when i touched Damian.
I turn to him. His gaze shows confusion as he stood calmly observing me.
"Who are you" I asked sternly.
He looked at me for a while trying to read my expression.
Then he looked a way, a flicker of guilt spread across his face but disappeared in an instant.
Now I didn't just hate him, I was sure he had something to do with the weird things that have been happening but I had no time to think about that.
I walked passed him but he this time he didn't react nor stooped me, he just kept watching with an unreadable expression as I left the house.
I took a train to green hills which was about five hours drive. The drive was filled with a mixture of fear, worry, and confusion.
I soon drifted back to sleep and by the time I reached The Grant-Domain hospital it was almost morning.
I rushed passed the busy hallway, straight to the receptionist.
"I'm, I'm ava, hmm you called me for my grandmother's treatment" I said sweating.
"Oh yes, someone already paid for her medications, her treatment already started" the receptionist said.
I was more than shocked, could it be Damian, no it can't be he doesn't even know the hospital.
"Hmm mam pls when was the payment made?, are you sure it was for my grandma?" I said still confused.
"It was made about two hours ago and yes, it was directly specified to your grandmother" he said.
"Can I pls get the name of the person who made the payment?" I asked.
"Well, the person didn't drop a name so I'm sorry I might not be able to help you with that" he said.
"Hmm but the details of the payment should be sent to your system, there must be a name there" I said.
"Well I'm not suppose to reveal such details but let me check" he said.
"The name here is kalian Red" she said.
What! So it isn't Damian, then who is this, his does the person know my grandma, was the person watching me.
Questions welled up in my head. "Hmm thank you, I'll go see my grandma now" I said and went to the ward where the receptionist directed me.
I pushed the door opened with expectations of seeing my grandma smiling, reaching in for a hug, being happy to see me again but all I saw was an old pal woman whom I almost didn't recognized. She was unconscious.
"Grandma, I came" I held her hand and tears streamed down my face.
"I promise, you'll get better soon" .
I was sad, almost discouraged by her state, all my hard work seemed in vain, grandma wasn't getting any better. But at least she was alive.
After about an hour, I booked a cab back to the capital. But throughout the drive my mind was still racing, kalian Red, the name sounded familiar, but not in a good way.
