Clang!
Above the icefield, the once relatively calm magnetic field instantly erupted into violent chaos. Overwhelming magnetic force fell upon the now fully metalized Sentinels in an instant.
Bang!
With a casual turn of his hand, Magneto sent the Sentinels, which had just risen into the air in dense swarms again after the thunderstorm ended, crashing heavily back to the ground. Under the rampaging magnetic force, their supposedly indestructible outer shells were twisted into mangled spirals.
Their limbs, torsos, and heads were all effortlessly warped as harsh metallic shrieks filled the air.
In no more than a few breaths, the battlefield that had been locked in chaotic combat moments before was completely swept clean.
Magneto let out a breath and slowly lowered his hand. As the turmoil in the magnetic field subsided, the surrounding lightning withdrew completely, and the clouds overhead gradually parted.
The Sentinels below were all paralyzed. Some had tried to shift into other forms to escape the magnetic field's crushing grip, but Magneto had moved too quickly and gave them no chance at all.
"If even I had such a hard time dealing with them, then Fenris's information really wasn't exaggerated in the slightest..."
Looking at the dense sea of mechanical wreckage across the icefield, Magneto was still deeply shaken even after wiping the Sentinels out. These machines could switch abilities at will and possessed terrifying strength. Ordinary mutants would have had no power to resist in front of such killing machines.
Even someone as powerful as Professor X would have been left helpless against the Sentinels.
The more Magneto thought about it, the more unsettling it became. The Sentinels could turn into molten form to counter Iceman, shift into an ice form to counter Pyro, and their freely morphing limbs were a nightmare for lower-level mutants.
After all, how many Magnetos could there possibly be among all mutantkind?
The more he thought, the more frightened he became, and the more grateful he was that Fenris had warned them in advance.
"Damn it, Fenris!"
The moment he thought of Fenris, Magneto hurriedly rose and shot at high speed toward Fenris's battlefield.
The Sentinels excelled in close combat. No matter how strong Fenris was, two fists could not fight four hands forever. He could not afford to fall here.
A completely different roar from before suddenly rang out from not far away. Magneto was startled, and his speed increased again.
"Fenris!"
"Hold on, I'm coming!"
Fenris alone had held back nearly two-thirds of the Sentinels. From the sky to the ground, the tall robots were everywhere in dense swarms.
Lasers, flames, frost, spears, plus the anti-air missiles and dense close-in gunfire that occasionally came from several kilometers away. All kinds of attacks nearly filled the entire sky.
Boom!
And yet, none of those sluggish attacks could touch Fenris. He weaved through them with ease, and every burst of light from his wings effortlessly cleared out a huge area around him.
With ghostlike speed, Fenris let the Sentinels desperately chase after him from behind. In only a few breaths, he had casually lured both the Sentinels and the storm of incoming fire several kilometers away, destroying the annoying close-in guns and anti-air systems.
Seeing that all that remained were the relatively weak Sentinel robots, while thunder and lightning flashed in the distance around Magneto, Fenris beat his wings once and dove toward the ground at high speed straight through the incoming attacks.
A deafening roar exploded across the battlefield. The next moment, the two enormous pairs of wings on Fenris's back slowly began to contract, while his body started swelling once more.
Rough skin shimmered with a dark violet-black glow. Sharp dorsal spines shone with blue light. A thick, powerful tail unfurled behind him. In the blink of an eye, Fenris's appearance changed completely, and a colossal beast descended from the heavens, crashing brutally into the most densely packed part of the Sentinel army.
Boom!
Before the shockwave from the impact had even dispersed, Fenris was already rising from the crater and sweeping his gaze across the surroundings.
At his feet lay two robots that had already been crushed apart underfoot. All around him, a dense ring of Sentinels more than three meters tall surrounded him on every side.
Seeing Fenris completely change into another form in an instant, they all raised their heads and stared up at his savage face. The red lights in their eyes flashed wildly, yet their attacks actually stalled for a moment.
"He can change forms at will? What kind of monster is that?"
Underground, even the normally composed commander could not help frowning as he stared at the majestic Godzilla on the screen.
"Sentinels. Why have the Sentinels stopped moving?"
The battle on Magneto's side was already intense, and now a new complication had emerged here as well. Had the Sentinel robots they had spent so many years painstakingly developing really failed to eliminate even just two mutants?
"The Sentinels' original core directive is the extermination of mutants. The appearance of this unknown creature interfered with their threat assessment."
The technician beside him stared at Fenris on the giant screen while frantically forcing attack commands into the Sentinel network.
A moment later:
"It's done!"
The technician lifted his head, drenched in sweat.
This might not have been the newest generation of Sentinels, but there were still thousands of them. One thousand against one. Even a flesh-and-blood body could be worn down to death.
The instant the command finished transmitting, every Sentinel on the surface lit up in unison.
Boom!
Fenris, anxious to go support Magneto, had no intention of hesitating. In just a few seconds, he had already crashed headlong into the middle of the Sentinel swarm.
Terrifying strength wrapped in overwhelming momentum. The Sentinels, each several meters shorter than him, looked almost frail by comparison, and they shattered the instant his claws struck them.
Whether it was ice, flame, or lava, the moment it landed on Fenris's body, it was effortlessly blocked. Every attack vanished completely beneath the dark violet-black glow spreading over his skin.
The terrifying Sentinel legion, enough to make anyone tremble in fear, was brutally pierced through by Fenris in an instant as if he were charging through empty space.
A low, heavy hum suddenly rose from all directions. As the blue glow along his dorsal spines lit up one by one, Fenris's eyes too gradually filled with a dazzling blue radiance.
The next moment, a massive atomic breath erupted from his mouth, carrying scorching energy as it slammed violently into the Sentinel swarm ahead of him.
The Sentinels' vaunted durable shells melted away with ease under the breath. One expensive robot after another collapsed, fused into all kinds of irregular, unrecognizable masses.
The raging breath lasted for several long moments, sweeping slowly from left to right. Nearly a thousand Sentinels were caught in it, and not one escaped.
When the blue light finally faded, Fenris let out a steaming breath still carrying lingering heat. He held his head high, and his eyes gradually returned to normal.
When he looked ahead again, the Sentinel legion that had come in with such overwhelming force had already been completely wiped out. They lay fallen across the vast icefield like harvested stalks of wheat.
Black machines covered the ground. As far as the eye could see, the land was cratered and ravaged.
Not far from Fenris, one lucky Sentinel had managed to keep its upper body intact. It slowly crawled toward him with great difficulty.
The moment its hand touched Fenris's skin, its outer shell shifted, taking on similar patterns and texture. A blue light, almost identical in color to Fenris's atomic breath, began flashing immediately after.
But in the very next second, a strange force spread through its interior, and the last Sentinel exploded into a pile of wreckage.
"Trying to copy me? What's the point if all you have is the shape?"
Fenris wrinkled his nose, and a stream of hot air burst from it. Then he turned and started walking toward Magneto's position.
At the horizon, a helmeted figure was also racing toward him through the air.
The instant Magneto saw Fenris, his eyes lit up.
"Fenris, I'm here to help!"
